    My go to is Probitas, gives me a little of everything that I like in a daiquiri without being too heavy handed. But I do also put Dr. Bird, Stiggens Fancy and Appleton in rotation. And Foursquare. And Don Q... And El Dorado....

      Probitas is by far the best white rum on the market

    In Canada we have the pleasure to have access to the Havana Club rums, the 3 year white is just perfect for Daiquiris (and great Mojitos too). The 7 year is said to be great for Daiquiris as well.

      The 7 year was probably my favourite purchase I've made the liquor store, it makes incredible cocktails and doesn't break the bank.

    My favorite daiquiri rums are (in order) 1) Barbancourt white or; 2) Cana Brava (unfortunately no longer made or; 3) Flor de Cana. Preferred ingredient ratio is 2 parts rum/1 part lime/1 part granulated demerara/raw cane sugar mix (1 part demerara/4 parts raw cane sugar) stirred into juice in mixing tin. Shake with cracked ice and strain into frozen coupe. This is a mix of Phil Ward's preferred recipe in the Death & Co. cocktail book and Beachbum Barry's daiquiri sugar blend. The Barbancourt rum is a light agricole style rum that has a subtle rum and floral taste in a daiquiri and doesn't overpower the lime. I'll use Jamaican rums on occasion, mainly if I am showing friends how important the choice of rum is in a daiquiri. Personally I find them overpowering in such a light, balanced drink.
    For an interesting twist, try adding 1/8( +/-) ounce of mezcal to your daiquiri recipe.

      You could skip the Bacardi and you wouldn’t miss anything special. It’s like skipping Nebraska on a trip to the US. Does it have its charms? Sure. Is it really a “must see” (or must sip)? Absolutely not.

    I love Rum. My favorite spirit by far. However, when I am looking for a simple rum for a nothing fancy Daiquiri or a rum and coke, my goto is Don Q. I think it is a far better and easier to drink rum than Bacardi and works really well in cocktails. About 2 years ago I found Diplomatico Rum Reserva Exclusiva. It is an awesome rum to sip on. I would not make a cocktail out of it because it tastes just too damn good. The product information on it has me salivating as I read it and it lives up to all of this
    Venezuela- A complex blend with aromas of fruit cake, cocoa and spices such as cinnamon, clove and dried ginger. Beautiful baked banana flavor with notes of fudge, toffee and vanilla oak, mingling well into gingerbread and orange zest. Voted spirit of the year 2018 from Wine Enthusiast

    Plantation 3 star white and Plantation Original Dark are MUST HAVE rums for mixing/cocktails. I have done extensive comparisons and these are the BEST for the price. Bacardi is disgusting compared to them.
    The plantation 5 year reserve is my go-to sipping rum, when I want something neutral. Even friends who ‘hate alcohol’ often say they could sip the 5 yr.
    I have other rums with funky and interesting flavors, but those three I mentioned are always in my bar, and I go through many bottles a year.
    So cheap, so good.

    There are so many rums and I have so little shelf-space. So many I haven't had a chance to try yet but I can make all the rum cocktails I need with three rums. For Daiquiri's and Piña Coladas I use Plantation 3 Stars. For dark Tiki drinks like Mai Tais, Jungle Birds, and Painkillers I usually do a 50/50 mix of Appleton Estate 12 and Pusser's Gunpowder Proof.

    What's crazy is that I was at a friend of mine's vacation home, and he has a little bar near the kitchen. I decided I wanted to make a daiquiri because I had never made one or actually tried one before. The only non-flavored rum he had was Bacardi Superior, so I begrudgingly made it with that. I was very surprised at how great that cocktail was. I never thought that such a cheap rum could make such a good daiquiri.

    It’s really hard to choose just 5. But one of the ones I’ve heard a lot of people say makes their favorite classic daiquiri is Probitas. There is also a pineapple Dr. Bird now and I grabbed a bottle to make a daiquiri but haven’t yet. I believe it’s also upped to 114 proof. Denizen White is also a great workhorse with enough complexity. I’ve seen that Saison but didn’t know what it was.

      And having "at least" 12 bottles of rum on hand at any time is more than plenty to be a big rum lover. I don't think by "aficionado" he actually meant he was one of the world's foremost experts lol.

      @@Brad-gc9cq For mixing cocktails, there is nothing wrong with the aforementioned rums, indeed.

    Flor de Caña 4 extra seco is, for me, far superior to Bacardi, even considering the low price of Bacardi. Bacardi is essentially as close to vodka that a rum can be. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t really shine either. If you want a wall flower, go with the Bacardi. If you want something that’s not going to dominate your daiquiri but still have some character, go with Flor de Caña (they’re very similar in price too).

    I love Daiquiri but when I used Chairman's spiced for the first time it blew our minds. It became something else, something different from every other daiquiri. My friends ask me again and again to make them this specific daiquiri. Nothing special, just 60ml Chairman's reserve spiced, 30ml simple syrup, 20ml lime juice and a good shake.

      Dr. Bird is more of a MUCH more pronounced caramelized fruit flavor profile than the Smith and Cross in my opinion. It's like overripe hot bananas sitting on dock in the tropics and I mean that in the best way possible.

    Yea, Bacardi def not for me, the Sasion sounds very interesting! The Old Stiggin’s is great, do a Daiquiri half with that and half with a Coconutoil fat washed light rum and you got yourself a Pina Colada style Daiquiri.
    Daiquiri KING still for me def is the Veritas/Probitas! Tastewise aswell as its giving me the 40+% proof.

    Never use Bacardi with your Daiquiri. It is only good for Rum and coke. Use a decent rum like Plantation 3 stars or Flor de Caña 4.

    • @jamesnewell9927
      @jamesnewell9927 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s like the vodka of rums-about as much of a wallflower as a rum can be. It doesn’t make bad daiquiri but it doesn’t make a particularly characterful one either. With Flor de Caña being about the same price, why not go with that? Or, if you can get your hands on an actual Cuban rum like Havana Club 3 year, that’s a great call too

    I don't know if they're a sponsor of this video...but ANY discerning rum drinker knows that Bacardi "Superior" is straight-up GARBAGE. It just is and to not acknowledge that is doing a dis-service to the viewer.

    • @jamesnewell9927
      @jamesnewell9927 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tend to agree. Bacardi has *very* deep pockets and I doubt we’ll ever know for sure but I feel pretty confident in my assumption that they did sponsor this video. They were the first one mentioned and, in other videos where Leandro is just using what he likes, he tends to go to standbys like Flor de Caña, Havana Club, Probitas/Veritas and other great, flavorful white rums over Bacardi. I think he has used Bacardi on other videos, but only when he’s really wanted the rum to take a backseat to the other flavors in the cocktail
