About a minute. Maybe a little more if I'm fresh. But that's a one-off effort, not a pacing up a category one climb.

    I got you all beat.
During a tour of the island in 2009, going from Alcudia to Port de Soller, I had an AMAZING ride down to Sa Calobra under dark, angry clouds.
As I was preparing for the climb back up after a short rest, the heavens opened and it started POURING rain, with lightning and thunder booming.
Pretty soon, there was a river of water coming down the road.
So I took all of my courage,
and the little Spanish I could speak,
and asked a tour bus driver that was getting ready to leave to drive me back up the climb...
So it took me about 10 minutes - crying all the way up because I wasn't going to do it on the bike. It was just too dangerous with the weather at that point.
But man, just going down that 270 degree switchback at the top and then doing the descent was a highlight of this trip!
And doing 24kph average going up is INSANE (although I am 16kg heavier than Tom - yeah, that's my excuse :) )!

But the pacing point is an interesting one. I'll never be a champion hill climber, but by pacing climbs to start steady and finish strong, I often do better on climbs than my physical stature would suggest.

My bets would be on Si!
Simon looks to me so slim, he must be a... well, in Germany we call such person a "Bergziege", a mountain goat! 😅

    Chapeau for the PB Alex.
Stick with Ollie, avoid Dan, and you might get your pro fitness back.

Great video! But I think, there's some bias here. The keyword is: nonlinear lactat reaction. If you are surely above a certain personal best pace for a distinct (longer) distance (commonly a threshold pace), don't think in linear terms related to the according KOM-holding pace. If you can hold the pace only for 3 minutes, instead of let's say 22, it doesn't mean, you are "7 times" worse than the KOM-holder. It just shows, how sensitive your muscles are to overpacing. I know, that wasn't stated here in the video directly but a lot of beginners seem to think this way I realized.

Judging by Alex's face, I wonder if the ex-pros are secretly getting a bit annoyed by the new found haughtiness of the dropped-to-dropper? Hahaha!!

there are certainly more testing climbs out there than Sa Calobra - it is aesthetically a beautiful climb - I found it to be steady without any truly steep sections or sustained gradients - it is what I classify as a "fast climb" meaning you can really hit and hold it and it is not too long either - I would classify it as a 6 or 7/10 climb in terms of demands but it is good for timing since it is such a steady freddy - my time for the very first time climbing it was only 0:55:19 - I was a bit nervous to not go too hard as it has a bit of a reputation as a "tough climb" but at the top I felt I could have done MORE - hopefully next opportunity I will push it for a more respectable time - I certainly had something something in the tank at the top

I‘m off to Mallorca on Monday. If I try this, it‘ll be barely enough for a TH-cam Short. Not even Ganna‘s legs are strong enough to propel me up there at that pace.
