CORRECTION, READ ME PLEASE: the yellow temporary well count is not limited to 9. Instead, after further testing, it is limited to no more than your next complete row's worth of wells. So for example, if you have 3 green wells, you can have 21 yellow wells to complete the row (24), or if you have 42 wells (some green, some blue), then you can have up to 6 yellow wells to complete the row (48). Thanks guys for pointing this out. I should've tested this more. In the video I happened to have 15 wells, so I was able to get 9 yellow ones to complete the row of 24.
Hey all,
Here it is. Thanks again for your patience. Apologies if the script in this one is more wild than usual; I was hungry when I wrote it.
Thank you for your voyage into zonai science! I look forward to the mineru videos and the effects of sages will and zonite armor!
I know this is dumb but why do you always say 'eat' zonai charges instead of 'use'
@@thesavageone8685 I was hungry when I wrote the script
I guess that also "kind of" explains why they separated the batteries into two color-coded sets of eight, which always seemed like such a bizarre UI design choice.
Can I ask how your able to take the time to make and use any of these vehicles? With or without the Schematic upgrade it just feels like a nice niche and I’m better off just on my own :/
It’s just they vanish when things load and they can get lost.
The reason why (to my knowledge) cooking fully resets your energy cell is because cooking begins a cutscene, and any form of cutscene will immediately replenish both your stamina and your energy cell: activating a shrine/lightroot, cooking, talking to an NPC, etc. When I'm running around, I'll occasionally talk to an NPC I'm passing by to reset my stamina and keep running. In the context of Zonai building, cooking is the most accessible way of starting a cutscene so that's why it's so popular
I agree! Even a yiga banana trap has reset my battery before!
i think it also works by talking to koroks, perfect for when you are completing the korok missions
an anti-frustration measure?
sooo.. attach a korok to a device and recharge by talking to him... ok.. noted
Ohhh neat, thanks for the tip dude!

Fun fact: most localisations translate the big battery as a "high capacity battery" specifically, the English localisation is kinda odd in having such a simplified translation.
I was wondering if you could cover the giant hover platforms, they definitely have some interesting mechanics
I may make a video eventually about how stuff dissolves, but I may need help from someone who can look into the code!
could you elaborate on what you mean about the platforms? I'd like to do some experimenting but I need a starting point :)

You videos are incredibly fun to watch they’re entertaining while also having interesting points.
meep meep.
Love the video! I do have a suggestion for the title: maybe add the Zonai Charges to it. It'll make this video stand out to people looking for that particular information.
I'm guessing Totk will have an active and invested player base for even longer than Botw, so those extra views can add up over time even if the subject is quite niche.
If I made a venn diagram of informative and funny TotK videos I've seen, your channel is the only overlap
the chef reset is so funny
Quick tip!
While flying a powered vehicle, you can use the moment of stillness you get when activating recall to drop a zonai battery and ultrahand it to your vehicle. You can then continue flying unimpeded, without having to spam recall, as your wells will recharge while flying!
This isn't so easy on something as small as a hoberbike, but anything larger will probably work out fine
Knowing the dissolving rule for batteries you can sorta use them as decouplers to detach selected parts after a set amount of time based on the well draining from other components.
Yup! I have seen people build multistage rockets using this mechanic. Unfortunately, you can’t autobuild partially-depleted batteries :(
Awesome breakdown!
But there is one mechanic of the batteries & Energy Cell that you missed!
Power range:
When Link is too far away from a Zonai device, it powers off. I believe this distance is the same for all devices? Haven't looked into it too much.
But if you attach a battery, it will stay powered until the battery depletes (assuming it doesn't go far enough to despawn) this seems like a very important thing to talk about, as at least one Autobuild schematic (Arial Cannon) relies on this effect.
You're an excellent content creator, please make more on this series. I'm positively eating this up.
Will do. It will be some time before part 3 though. I have some other work to do.
Just watched part 1 this morning, was left wondering when part 2 would be released :3
You can have more than 9 yellow wells of energy; I ate a bunch of wells at one point and got up to 7 full bars (or 21 wells) of yellow energy. I don't think I was at the maximum number of energy wells, but I know I had at least the green bars fully maxed out and was making some progress on the blue bars cause I thought it was weird symmetrically that it only went up to 7 yellow bars when I would have expected 8 to match the permanent energy bars. I wonder if it's tied to your max battery capacity? I haven't tested with the full blue bars.
Hmm maybe so. I should’ve tested that.
@@paradox_guardianI’m pretty sure that’s how it worked, the amount I could use decreased after upgrading the wells.
@@KP-vf6hu After some testing, you are correct! I have updated the top comment accordingly. Thanks for pointing this out.

It's always nice finding a video from a smaller creator with the quality of a much larger one. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!! Having any kind of structure helps my brain!! Wells per second works as a guide, too. I look forward to more!!
Another great video! Thank you for all the work you put in!
Thanks! I subscribed yesterday for this specifically lol. What timing!
That shade thrown at the Wings was so perfectly slipped in.
Thanks and I’m hyped for the next parts
What do ya know, I just finished watching your part 1 only to find you just uploaded the squeal. I somehow accidentallied myself into the perfect timing it seems heh. Can wait to see more of your deep dives.
if I remember right, the game also chooses batteries based on order of placement. Could you test if that'll cause it to disconnect batteries in the wrong order? Say, if you glued one battery to another, then glued one of those batteries to a machine
I could make a whole video about the battery selection algorithm. In my research for this one, I was quite fascinated by it! From what I've seen, placement order doesn't matter. Instead, when choosing a battery, it seems the game looks for the battery that
-is attached to the lowest number of things.
-contains the lowest amount of remaining energy
-is the furthest average distance away from the powered Zonai devices
in top to bottom priority order. I can perhaps run a few more tests, but this is what I observed.
@@paradox_guardian ah I see! I must've had it wrong then, and I would love to see a video on the battery selection system!
@@paradox_guardian”contains the lowest amount of usuable energy” that sounds like something probably obvious or you went full blown mad man in testing and I’m not sure which is more likely lol
@@paradox_guardianif it's predictable to that extent, I wonder if it could be used to deliberately cause delayed shedding of parts? Would be hard to lay out, at best.
Woow great work you definetly deserve more subscriber. I'll definetly use the calculator in the game so many thanks for that
This is really awesome stuff! Thanks for the research!
you are the first person that i have seen that also uses egregious
I watched the last part yesterday!
Let's goooo!
The chef recycle may be due to the cutscene. I noticed that all of my energy recharged when i first time kill the yiga with the red circle, triggering the cutscene with the door unlocking. It might be worth finding out if blood moon does this too.
Battery dissolution can be used to intentionally disconnect parts. I do this to extend the fan bike with batteries found on some of those sky islands. Just connecting all the batteries to the bike will just make it too heavy to go anywhere, so i add two more fans connected by batteries and connect more batteries to those. When those fans disconnect they fall quickly out of range and are no longer drawing power.
super useful tip for anyone using a zonai contraption to fly, and can't afford to or don't want to land to recharge energy:
_recall has no cooldown after use_
and
_your battery recharges while in recall_
these two can be effectively used to infinitely fly around or do whatever without losing height
can attest to the strength of this technique, I've used this for weeks already, and even got to the 3000m island above lookout landing with only 4 energy wells to fly a hoverbike with (though with many attempts because I messed it up a lot)
Great follow up! Thank you!
The batteries dissolve in the reverse of the order they are attached with a few minor exceptions like if you attach one while another is already being used
Injust watched the first video and i am gladly watching this one immediately after its release
Your 100th LikE is delivered! Awesome experiements!
Aw, I was hoping to see if you were going to explain the discharge rate of the electrically charged zonai battery in this one. Maybe in a future video going over all the electric devices?
That’s a good idea. I can add that to the list
Great research, again. 😁👍
I would consider mentioning Mineru, even in passing and as a future part of the series, could be considered a spoiler. Please be mindful of this when you get to making said video!
Chef reset goes hard
1:05 My favorite element is bomb
Now I’ll forever call cannons “ball emitters”
I'm pretty sure the overchrge cap isn't 9 wells, but rather how many wells you have left in your current row. You just got 9 because you had 15 out of 24 green, but if you had 1 blue, you could get 23 yellow
Video idea: how to do quantum linking on builds
4:32 in specific if im not mistaken batteries deplete in the order that you attached them to the vehicle. So the last battery you attached will deplete first. So if you place a battery on a battery, the one that was just placed will deplete first because the other battery obviously was already placed down.
This is demonstrably false.
@@paradox_guardian good to know
Have you explored the interaction between batteries and emitters connected on top of a Construct head? Based on the other interactions you mentioned, I wouldn't be surprised if the batteries don't care whether the emitter is on or off and always consume power at a constant rate.
I can finally recharge my zonai machines with BREAD (in a cooking pot). MUH HA HA HA!
A Sam O’ Nella video and a Paradox Gaming video all in one day?
Heck yeah I will
Also, thank you :D
Hi, loved the videos but i had a question
Where did you find the totk background (the black one with zonai circles) and the zelda text font ?
In any case, have a nice day and good luck on your PhD ^^
The font is called hylia serif. I think you can google it and download it. As for the background, I just googled things like totk zonai background, totk wallpaper, etc. until I found it. From there, I added a vignette to the edges and the recall symbol in the center with low opacity
@@paradox_guardian Thank you so much !
I'm pretty sure that you can use a korok to fully recharge your energy cells like a cooking pot.
Probably so! Most cutscenes seem to reset it. One time, I was in a car and ran over a banana trap and the pissed off Yiga clan cutscene reset the cell lmao
nice lol@@paradox_guardian
I love Rauru Juice
Can you use the emitter to recharge a battery it's pointing at?
🔥
What would happen if you activated a bunch of cannons that were attached together while you didn't have many wells. If you activated the max of 20 cannons while you only had the base 3 wells, it would use about 10 wl of charge. Since attached items seem to activate simultaneously, and the cannon's charge usage is uniquely nondifferentiable, I think this could lead to unique behavior. Would they all fire regardless of your charge capacity? Would only 3 be able to fire? If so, how does the game decide which ones? I'd love to see what you could figure out.
3:26 is golden lmao
fans last just long enough to not make it anywere. true!
Zonai charges add as many temporary Wells as you're missing in the first row if you have half the batteries capacity then you won't be able to have any temporary welds
I just tested this and you are correct. I also found that the second row can also be completed with yellow wells in a similar manner. Thank you so much for pointing this out.
the portable pot is a heat-powered power generator.
So wait, the portable pots are a single use Mister Fusion from Back to the Future?
I remember seeing somewhere that a Korok can be used to reset your energy as well, can I smack a Korok onto a flying machine to have the same effect that a cooking pot would?
I have a question about a game item, the divine helms says it “deepen the bond with the X when worn by a Hylian”, I know it makes the vow avatars wear the zonai version, but dose it work like sage will and actually increase their damage?
I haven't researched this at all. Your guess is as good as mine
Yes, it increases their damage by 50% but this stacks additively with Sage Remnants. Zonaite Helm also has this effect for Mineru

Why spend charges in a dispenser when construct horns are good for nothing more than that?
Hi! I know I'm a month late, but I noticed it only now. I also know that almost nobody is gonna reply. How is the music from 7:30 called?
Well... there is another battery that you can use
The rechargeable battery in the Zora's shrine, but its utility outside the shrine is into question.... at least for now
With very low wells, infinite height with a cart, shock emitter attached directly to the electric battery, and a Gemimik propeller and motor. I will even test this on my second file, and let you know.
My only wish is that the batteries would operate in the reverse that they do now.. it'd be more useful, I think.
That way, it would only deplete the physical cells once Link was out of wells, meaning it would not use them in situations where they don't need to be used. In the current setup, they tend to get wasted because they get used first. I can't really see any actual benefit to them being used first either.. are there any?
I guess the one thing I can think of is that it would be hard to program whether the cell should regenerate when the vehicle switches to battery power. Not sure though
what's the background music? I recognize it but can't remember
In order, yiga base [totk], ancient wisdom [age of calamity dlc], fire temple 4 [totk], lava is hot [baba is you]
Batteries deplete based on the order you add them to the structure, not based on some magic about not breaking anything. Your example vehicle that has a battery that will and won't break things is a perfect example.
This just isn’t true from what I’ve seen. The order of adding stuff doesn’t seem to matter, but the location does. It’s just that your earlier added batteries will probably be closer to the powered parts, and under other batteries, making them the last to burn out.
Its a shame that attaching a battery to Mineru's construct doesnt seem to use less battery, was lowkey disappointed to find that out
Hey, the link to the new calculator spreadsheet doesn't have viewing enabled, neither the link in the description or the one on the old sheet.
Thanks for letting me know. I'll take a look tonight
I just changed it to anyone with a link can view. lmk if you can download it. Sorry, I don't use google drive all that much
@@paradox_guardian Both downloading and making a copy of the document seems to shrink the size of a few cells but besides that, all the calculations seem to work fine for both. Nice work on figuring all of this out and sharing it with the rest of the community for others to use

They’re only obtainable from a few chests and flux constructs until you fully upgrade your cell, at which point you can buy them for charges from a refinery

Also, Croton has a good video about fused weapon durability th-cam.com/video/1FOe4spSahY/w-d-xo.html
Not saying you shouldn't make one too, but just letting you know it exists.
Yup, when I started this, I wanted to make sure to not overlap with Croton
I bet they just didn't want to animate the batteries to support the uneven depletion rate of the cannon.
That’s a pretty good conjecture. Could easily be that as well.
