  • From setting fire to curtains inside an aeroplane cabin and hurling scalding noodles over a flight attendant to urinating in public places, Chinese tourists have gained a bad reputation.
One in 10 travellers world-wide is from China.
Outside of Asia, their destination of choice is France.
Despite complaints from locals, officials in Paris want to double the number of Chinese visitors to five million a year.
101 East asks what it will take to turn the plane loads of first-time travellers from China into well behaved sightseers.

I just hope Chinese educators and parents would realize what they have not been teaching to Chinese. Chinese are so proud of their academic grades (globally ranked) and future material status (e.g. jobs), but they forget the core value of life and code of conduct that presents who you are in the society is more important than $. I cant wait to finish my degree to go back to China to make a change. They need that.

This is absurd. Chinese tourists go to France and what do they find most interesting? Sights? Restaurants? Night life? No, it's clean water and clean air... This is so sad.

I swear, I had a mental breakdown seeing someone eating a croissants and viennoiseries with chopsticks.

"Remember yesterday I explained democracy". What an amazing line...

I don't see the point in traveling overseas just to do the same thing you do back home.

Mr Summer and his family should not even be following a tour group. They should be travelling on their own. Look how Mr Summer appreciated the details of the sights especially the Louvre.

you know its bad when you ask a tourist about how your country is and the first thing they say is 'the air is nice'.

I've studied in Montreal, Canada and I can say it's the exact same situation. Since the start of direct flights from Montreal to Beijing and Shanghai in 2015, Chinese tourists came there en masse. Even worse, rich Chinese investors, the same ones that jacked up home prices in Vancouver, Toronto, and other places, started doing the same to Montreal. The average home price that used to be $800k in 2014 is now $1.8 million in 2019. There has been such a sharp increase of homelessness and one of my favorite neighbourhoods there, where there was an equal number of English and French speakers, were almost entirely replaced by Mandarin speakers in a fortnight. Oh, and the city became much dirtier than before.

I think the most surreal moment was when the guide was explaining the strikes and said, "Yesterday I told you about democracy".
