    The message in this song hits hard. It is all about our inner struggles. While the video portrays child abuse and the struggles of growing up with the trauma and hidden scars from it. You can take this message and use it to shine on any mental struggles you have.

      Brent is an inspiration. He's a recovering addict, is very honest about it; he said their album "Attention Attention" is the first album they've put out that he's been completely drug free. All four of these guys, actually, are incredible and are big advocates for mental health.

      For decades I knew what answers to give to get a diagnosis of depression. I knew what answers to give to get a diagnosis of anxiety... Cuz I was skirting the issue I didn't want that stigma I didn't want that four letters... But since I started telling accounts where the truth and I got the real diagnosis of PTSD... Life has gotten better it ain't perfect but it is better. More than anything else with this song did was let me know I'm not alone

    • @chubbs7758
      @chubbs7758 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This song is not about child abuse.. If you actually pay attention to the video, the older guy that takes the little girl seems to be the grandfather and taking her to the funeral of her father she doesn't want to go to... Perception is narrow with negative people.

    • @melindaroop1346
      @melindaroop1346 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chubbs7758 Part of the meaning of the video is child abuse. I dont know what fuxk you were watching lol. The little girl hiding under the bed from her father...duh. The funeral was for that lady's husband...who is white. That little girl isn't mixed lol. Pay more attention.

    As a Marine Corps veteran, I’ve been to way more funerals than I care to think about….. most were after the wars. When I seen that first scene I turned it off. Later I gathered enough guts to watch it all, and I’m glad I did. Really caries some weight, a damn good song.

      Shinedown have alway supported our Troops they went to Iraq in 2006 to play for them, and actually hung out with the troops in the barracks. They ate the same food as the troops no special treatment.

    each person was dealing with their own monster, the lead singer is Brent Smith, he is a recovering addict, some of his songs are his reminders to stay sober, the little girl, her grandpa is her monster, and the beautiful lady her monster is guilt, Her husband was called back overseas and she cheated on him, then he gets killed over there. The guy on the drum is Barry Kerch. I had left a comment on your reaction to 45 with other Shinedown songs and Monster was one of them. Check out their song Goodbye is a Second Chance.

    This song is about Brent's struggles with alcohol and drug addiction. He is basically speaking to the other person(the addict, the monster) inside himself that did all those things.

    Van, I have been a loyal subscriber of yours for a long time and a Shinedown fan since their earliest days . I am PLEADING with you to check out their early stuff from their “Leave A Whisper” and “Us and Them” albums. They blow EVERYTHING they’ve ever done since then OFF the charts, respectively. Primarily, “Leave A Whisper” stuff. You should start with their 1st album- LEAVE A WHISPER-and the most popular, catchy song on there called: “FlyFromTheInside” and just go down the list from there. You CAN’T be disappointed. (45 and Simple Man came from that era). After that whole album, move to the “US AND THEM” Album. Enjoy that entire one. PLEEEASE? Do yourSELF (and everyone else) a favor.
    ✌🏻Julie currently in Tx, from NC
    Btw, the singer’s name is Brent Smith.

    Monsters is awesome but i gotta recommend Devil and Get Up off the same album. Hell, the entire album is amazing: Attention Attention.

    It's not about successful ppl hurting others, it's about the dismissal of those of us that will never be whole again, not able to forgive those that destroyed any future we might have had. Some monsters are easier to defeat than others. Some ppl can get past their monsters. For me, I've survived 53 years of abuse, abandonment, betrayal, pain and some of those monsters are dealt with, some leave scars that are so deep you don't know how you're not split in half permanently. Much love for taking a minute to think about that. 🙌🙏🏾🧡

    I fell in love with the song the first time I heard it on the radio...it's amazing and relatable on so many levels. I think I did suggest it on discord when I first found out about it, but can't be sure.
    Being a veteran and someone who has seen the effects of PTSD on not just veterans, but on children and anyone who's gone thru something, the song itself hit hard. Then I watched the music video for it, and it hit me even harder. So much to be seen in it, more than one form of PTSD in there.

    This song is one of the harder hitting songs for some who have struggled with these demons. It's about suicide. It's not easy coming back from war and seeing the shit we see overseas, then dealing with it everyday at home. Suicide is a tragic, quiet crescendo. The dark thoughts that are kept inside, while keeping a bright smile one the outside fools everyone. Then it happens, and they don't realize how selfish an act it is and how it hurts those around them. Those demons, those monsters are very real, and like they suggest, they are trained to kill. I pray for anyone going through that right now.

    I so agree with what you said. I've dealt with alcoholism & suicide from my base family but I have broken that chain. I refused to let it taken down & have gone through every path to growth & doing better. I would hope I've done good by others at least my mind & heart is sat on good intentions & if I felt or found I hurt anyone I apologize. Sometimes you have to keep open you may without knowing & be open & aware of those you live around you that they may be hurt without you knowing what they look to you for also. But anywho I get it. Love your reactions man and the good messages here n there. KEEP IN KEEPIN ON man Live Laugh & Love 🤘🏼🧡 🧡 love from Tenn.

    The greatest power music has and every song has ever had is the power to be interpreted by the listener. Many people can listen to the same song and come away with a different message or point of view. My friend once said music has the power to bring people together even if they find a different message in the music.

    Pretty much been said at this point but i do agree with the rest of this fanbase. Shinedown is simply amazing. You really cant go wrong with any of their songs. And at the end card of the music video you can see 2 other songs by them that are just as amazing. Attention Attention is off the same album as Monsters ( which just so happens to be named Attention Attention) and the other one Atlas Falls, is such a good song for our time. Got to listen to that one. And yeah Alex is good, fan of his as well. I consider you all to be like food dishes. You each offer a different experience but yes i do get fed with each. 'Cause my monsters are real, and they're trained how to kill
    And there's no comin' back and they just laugh at how I feel
    And these monsters can fly, and they'll never say die
    And there's no goin' back, if I get trapped I'll never heal
    'Cause my monsters are real

    If you meant the vocalist for Lynyrd Skynyrd, he was Ronnie Van Zant (RIP). His younger brother Johnny is the current vocalist.

    This has got to be one of my favorite songs! I get the video. But for some of us we have or have had some kind of monsters in our life time.

    State of my head is my favorite. I've sung Crow and the Butterfly for awhile on Karaoke night. maybe I'll try this one.
