Love this! Another option (if you have too much water on your brush but have already dipped the tip into paint) is to blot the body of the bristles (or thickest part nearest the ferrule) on a paper towel, not the tip. This will take out water without you losing paint.
Thank you for including times and percentages! It's so much easier to understand than 'a bit'. Gloss and satin really helped me to understand what I was looking for.
As a lifetime professional artist, I have learned more from your videos than just about any other forms of enlightening myself about watercolor. Thank you.
Thank you for this great information. I will go back to it often as I am new to watercolor painting. I was having these problems with wet washes and I didn't know why, but you explained it wonderfully! Thank you again.Susan
So very true it's only when I took notice of how much water is on the paper, the brush, and the pigment mix that I moved forward, and a trusty piece of toweling to use as a blotter for the brush, there are 6 stages of wetness on the paper ,practice that it will be amazed especially when first starting with watercolor . tfs your demo.
Ty as when doing wet on wet (thought had to go over it w water about 3 times) & have the “bead” technique down pretty well. Now want to try doing “satin” amount of water using thicker paint!
Thank you for this demonstration. What I tend to do is use alot of water, I had no idea you can skip the waiting part and just go satin and have more control! :D
Hello Jean 🙌 I love your paintings and tricks. I want to know which paper or sheet you use for this demonstration ? The paper which I use, after getting wet it starts releasing it's tissues u know just like small pieces of sheet/paper. This Will be your great help. Thanks😃
Thank you - I have been struggling and see I must use fresh paint out of the tubes each time to get the richnesss. Also when you are layering, do you wet the whole area each time?
Hi Jean, thank you so much for this tutorial. When I try I feel my final finish has a very dull effect how to make it glossy. Do I need to get a change colour. Kindly suggest one.
If you mix colors that are opposite on the color wheel they will create a muddy or dull look. Not sure what you mean by "glossy." Watercolors do not dry glossy.
Thanks for this! What weight of Saunders Waterford cold pressed paper did you use? Do you 'stretch' or 'wet and dry' your paper first to prep it? Thank you.
Did you take photos of your paintings and print them or are those the originals. I want to give copies instead of originals. Copying my watercolor paintings paper was horrible.
Michael those are prints of my paintings. I printed them out from my deskjet printer. If you want to give prints to your friends you will probably need to get that done professionally.
I printed my first work today at #staples and felt so happy. I feel like a real artist now. I don't have a high end camera but I sure would go to a photo studio.

Thanks😃
Hey Jean, I m sorry but I am not able to find out where the information is listed of paper and colours. I checked the path which u told me to do.
Thought I had listed it under the video but just found that I hadn't. I used Saunders Waterford cold pressed paper.
Thank you - I have been struggling and see I must use fresh paint out of the tubes each time to get the richnesss.
Also when you are layering, do you wet the whole area each time?
Hi Lynne. Yes, I do wet the whole area between each glaze layer.
Thanks
Thanks, this was good information.
Glad you enjoyed it Cathy.
Thank you!!!!

I think I got it
Thank you for this tutorial. How long do you wait when you put another glaze of color?
Until each layer is completely dry Patsy.
I haven't heard from you for awhile..are you still making new videos and courses? I am still working on the ones I bought though!
Hi Gloria. I am working on a new course. Stay tuned. Everyone on my mailing list will get a notice with a discount coupon.
Thanks for this! What weight of Saunders Waterford cold pressed paper did you use? Do you 'stretch' or 'wet and dry' your paper first to prep it? Thank you.
I used 140lb paper and no, I do not stretch or wet and dry my paper. I just tape it down to a board. Hope this helps.
about how long do you have to work with the paper that is just glossy wet before it's too dry to blend colors?
It's different for everyone depending on the temperature in your area.
what kind/brand of paper are you using for this demonstration? thanks.
That is where I am going wrong: I am adding too much water. Thank you!
What kind of watercolour do you use?
Hi Anna. I use Daniel Smith and Winsor & Newton watercolors.
+Jean Lurssen you copied your painting on a laser copier machine?
+Michael Reed No I took a photo with a Nikon camera and downloaded it to my computer and printed it from my deskjet printer.
+Jean Lurssen Yes, I thought of that a little after I saw your video. Thanks for giving for answering my question.
