  • This video demonstration shows how to cut and replace a microwave wave guide cover from one of the universal sheets available to purchase in our store. No special tools are required though a leather punch can be useful to make holes on the cover if required. The mica material can be cut using a sharp knife or scissors. Using the old wave guide cover as a template is the easiest way to cut your cover to size.
If you like our video then maybe you can consider purchasing from us.

Awesome guys. I was about to buy a new, built in microwave for £250 (as mine was sparking) until I saw this clip. I thought at £2.49 I didn't have a lot to loose, so I ordered a piece of Mica from buymystuffshop,it arrived 36 hours later, cut it to size as per the video and hey presto, a fully functioning oven. Superb, thanks.

Works! I just cut a mica sheet from Pastime Ace Hardware (their part number 400042 for $3.95). I cut mostly with scissors (yes, scissors can cut rock sometimes, so much for "rock paper scissors!") and finished one notch with a hobby knife, thus creating a part that is shaped like my original, which in my case is the shape of a Sharp PCOVPB085MRP0 Wave Guide Cover. Curiously, my home-made cover is more see-through whereas the original looked more silvery-opaque. However that difference doesn't seem to affect function. Thanks for the encouragement to try this fix on my own rather than ordering & waiting for the part.

Awesome vid, Thanks. Simple stuff, but good to be shown the first time. Takes the guess work out of it before you start cutting.

Hey mate, with the covers themselves, are they designed specific to the brands? I have a whirlpool convection which I'm replacing the cover, but I don't want to just go out and source a new one if it's advised to get them directly from whirlpool. Thanks in advance

Is there any hazard in usung the microwave withoute that cover, mine broke and I kept using it without it.

Not as such however food must be kept covered. Fat splashes or moisture can enter the wave guide duct and if they come in to contact with the magnetron antenna they will be vapourised or burnt. This burning can damage the magnetrons antenna.

      Hi.
How we can understand if the magnetron antenna is broken? It will not make hot the food anymore?
I have an oven that because of spoons or forks inside, the mica sheet burned and I use the oven more than 2 years without a new mica sheet. 7 months ago because the front time button was broken, I opened the oven and in order to reach the front button I put aside the magnetron and I saw that its tip was melted at one angle. Until now the oven is working ok. Today I ordered also a new mica sheet to put inside (after more than 2 years it was time). What is your opinion? Is it safe to continue use the oven (with the tip of the magnetron half melted) or is it better search for a new oven?

Well, after all these years the over still works just fine. After fixing the mechanical timer button I can bet that it will work forever.
