Bravo to Chanel Miller and the Swedish heros. It was great to read this morning's Stanford Report stating Stanford University has selected Chanel Miller's book, "Know My Name" for this year’s Three Books Program and invited incoming first-year and new transfer students to come together as a community to discuss it during New Student Orientation.
I was just about to write a comment applauding the guys who intervened, then I saw that they were Swedes and I have to say, as a Swede, I am really proud of that and not at all surprised, we really have a culture of equality and awareness of this. People stepping up and not looking the other way when they see someone being hurt is so brave and so important ❤️
Of course she's amazing! How many American men can say they learned anything from this? Interesting it's Swedish men who took him down. I'd bet my own life MANY other men knew what he was doing. Men should all be accountable if they have been anywhere in the vicinity of a woman/child/ person more vulnerable being assaulted. Why is society so damaged by angry violent men?
Well said. The rapists amoung us are in the millions worldwide. If we look at them we see large yellow streaks down their backs, and in front we the word monsters plastered in their hearts. They represent alot of males out there who feel entitled to disrespect, humiliate, abuse, assualt women and girls throughput this world. There is a way to stop rape...women must stand together. When a rapist is convicted he must serve a mandatory sentence of 20 years Without any chance of parole. Once released after 20 years he must be branded with the letter R. Harsh? NO. Just talk to anyone who is a rape survivor. It is a JUST sentence. This would stop rapes. At least it would decrease rapes to a small percentage. But the ingredients to stop rapes must come first with a worldwide agreement amoung women that we will stop this endless generational terrorizing of women and girls by males. There are many many good men in this world as evidenced by these two in this post...but how many have turned away, walked away, said nothing as they have witnessed a act of violence against a women or child. Men throughout history have not stopped males from raping. So it is women worldwide who must stand and demand strict sentences and the branding of these monsters. Branding will tell everyone, but especially women who is a man or who is a yellow backed monster.
This is the best story I have ever heard in my entire life watching this program thank you. I am proud of you for speaking for millions of us are probably feel. And how we live.

The most insulting/upsetting/degrading thing during that trial was Brock's father saying: 'My son will spend the rest of his life as a registered sex offender for the sake of twenty minutes of pleasure'. A sexual offence is twenty minutes of pleasure? No wonder the son acted as he did.
@@hardestkhakis4684 I've looked up Brock's father's quote: he called it 'twenty minutes of action'. But you're right: that's the sort of fatherly philosophy that raises rapists. And that's what made me sign the petition for the recall of the judge, too.

This made me emotional then and now when I watch it for a second time. Everything that has happened, as a result of this rape, just amazes me. Justice can work but sometimes it is in an indirect way. Although Brock Turner did not receive the sentence he absolutely deserved, stronger laws were put into place to protect the victim. This Judge Persky was, rightfully, removed from his bench. Now I wonder what Mr. Persky is doing now? I think Brock turner moved back home. I also believe he tried to appeal to have his sex offender status expunged from his record. I don't know if he was successful or not. Where is Brock Turner now? In another CBS broadcast show, it was said that Brock Turner's father wrote the following statement "That is a steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of life." Yeah, the father wrote that! To the two gentlemen who found and saved Chanel Miller, thank you is not enough. You did the right thing. @@xmuta Do you have any idea how hard it is for a sexual abuse victim to even tell family or friends what happened? she got up in front of the world and did it with a media circus looking on.
She wrote an impact statement so powerful it went viral, got a judge recalled, and got the law changed.
@Hardest Khakis
Chanel wasn’t sexually assaulted.
@@liamscott1905 She wasn't?

I just finished Ms Miller's book - "Know My Name". I have never wept so often during a reading. Not only was she assaulted once, she had to re-live the experience multiple times in the following 15 months before the trial. She writes her story with candor, a little humor, and brutal emotional honesty. I felt I was living her experience along with her. Thank you, Ms Miller, for speaking your truth. I am so sorry this happened to you, but now I know your name.
SHERO! Thank you young lady. The future for survivors will ever be grateful for your story. From ashes to beauty. ❤️👍💯
What a brave young lady. Those two men who stopped it are what true hero's look like!!!

Wow. Saw this when it aired and watched it again. Every word she says is intention, powerful, and poetic.
such a brave soul. i cannot thank you enough for being so strong for all of us. i can admit it happened to me.
I, too, am a rape survivor. Thank you for your bravery, Chanel. My assault was in 1982 and I still feel fear under certain circumstances.
I am proud to be Swedish watching this.
Jag med !
The judge was the real crook. I hope he and Brock remember Chanel’s words and her face. Shame on them.
Agree with you @A.G.
When a man says "No" it’s the end of a discussion. When a woman says "No" it’s the beginning of a negotiation (Gavin de Becker)

Of course NOT !!
You're right. I am reminded of lives lost because they didn't deserve to drive with a minute car malfunction.
When Chenel said “ my dream is to write children’s books and” i felt her pain and I’ll be buying her books I’m so sorry for what happened to her but so glad she was able to stay strong.
wow i wish i seen this before. this should be shared with every young women on any college campus. i hope this continue to save lives in a way that justice system can not
I just finished the book and had to immediately watch the interview. I cried when I saw the pain in your eyes, worried no parent would want to buy your children's books. Know there are millions of us who will! ♥️
Wow she is tough, I feel like she is standing up for me as a woman. I'm proud of her and I don't even know her.
Chanel, thank you so much for your resiliency and strength. Writing your memoir and watching you partake in interviews takes so much courage. None of this was your fault. And I pray that you no longer hold the guilt or shame that this has burdened you with. I pray that you’ve been able to attend therapy, heal, and live a happy and productive life. You’re forever in my thoughts and prayers! 🕊✨
It actually mostly was her fault , she went to a party then cheated on her boyfriend then falsely accused Brock of rape.
This is so hard to listen to, as a woman. 💔
so proud of you Chanel. SO PROUD. incredible strength. such incredible strength
Brock invited his own downfall, all by himself.
Nope
She's a hero. May her soul be healed through the grace of God. Amen.
No words...just bless this woman.
This story brought me to tears just glad to know the laws have changed but he should have spent at least 10years in prison for the damaged he did to that young lady.
I remember this...the rich white boys family had strong connect that reached that Judge, who was finally Vote out. Chanel's story of courage has helped so many.🙏🏾
What a smart, powerful young woman! The two young men that saved her and held him are super heros!
As a mom - I would by your books for my son in a heartbeat! So strong and resilient and brave 🏆💪
So glad that judge was recalled!

True grit defines courage. She faced her assailant. Sexual assault occurs every day in every state. I’m a survivor of childhood sexual abuse.
Oh no, so sorry
I am praying for you, Peter
Bravo to Chanel Miller and the Swedish heros. It was great to read this morning's Stanford Report stating Stanford University has selected Chanel Miller's book, "Know My Name" for this year’s Three Books Program and invited incoming first-year and new transfer students to come together as a community to discuss it during New Student Orientation.
Im so sorry that happened to you. You are such a strong woman. Nobody deserves that.
What a smart brave courageous girl she is. And bravo to the two Sweden students. They are heroes!!!!
THANK GOD THAT JUDGE WAS RECALLED.
The power of words! She is a hero! One of the most powerful segments I have ever watched on 60 Minutes!

This is devastating for this woman! The authorities, the hospital, the Uni, and court system should be held accountable for abusing victims! Insane!!
The most insulting/upsetting/degrading thing during that trial was Brock's father saying: 'My son will spend the rest of his life as a registered sex offender for the sake of twenty minutes of pleasure'. A sexual offence is twenty minutes of pleasure? No wonder the son acted as he did.
My god, I remember that now that you just mentioned it, I remember thinking "who thinks like that?" and then thinking "oh the guy who raised a rapist"
@@hardestkhakis4684 I've looked up Brock's father's quote: he called it 'twenty minutes of action'. But you're right: that's the sort of fatherly philosophy that raises rapists. And that's what made me sign the petition for the recall of the judge, too.
@Hardest Khakis
No he didn’t, Brock is innocent
This is one of my favorite Docos because of how much Channel inspires me. She is so patient with her words. She has given so many women a voice along with hers. Her bravory is beautiful. I am so sad this happened to Channel but without her the laws would still be crap and women would still be getting victom blammed. Thank you Channel...
I am just watching this now, but I can tell you that I am going to get her book, share it with my older girls who are college age. Also, if she does put out children's books, I will proudly, and quickly get them for my 5 year old. No one deserves what she went through.
The fact is, Brock being a student athlete at a top university, is what made this story go national. If it was just some street criminal, you know damn well you would have never heard of this incident!
She’s there in the frat party to hook up with white guys. Those Asian women worship white guys.

Miss Miller is courageous and intelligent, and I pray for her to recover from this trauma. The Swedish men are heroes, a healing contrast to the rapist.
Thank you beautiful soul for your stance, your spirit has healed more than we will ever know, because some of us were still hidden within that darkness, the secret we can never share publicly. Wow! I was told by an American friend to never ever admit a mistake or apologize for any wrongdoing because it would be taken as a sign of weakness in America. I never believed it. Now I see this true when I hear how Brock changed his story to manipulate his crime, defame the victim and nearly get away with it. “A devil, a born devil …” whose wholesome exterior clouds a fetid, dark, cankerous conscience.

So wonderful that all those letters were sent to her. God bless her.
Bless her. She's a strong, smart determined young lady and I have nothing but respect and admiration for her. She's going to make of her life whatever she chooses.
I could not even imagine. I have tears in my eyes....hearing her talk about about what this did to her emotionally. Especially when she talked about how she found out the details from the internet, sitting at her desk surrounded by her co workers. Can you imagine having to try to keep your composure? I'm still watching, but that's my feelings about it so far. It probably only gets worse from here. Will be back to make final comments.
It takes so much courage and strength to do the right thing, at times. Chanel Miller, I hope you are bright and smiling. I hope you are finding fulfillment in your life, today.
Shows the fathers attitude to women and rape and where the son learned that behavior.
He did appeal and lost! He will always have to Register as the lowlife sex offender coward he is!
Also I think having sex with an unconscious woman is depraved! He’ll possibly reoffend.
@@paulabrown6840 He and others have been getting the message from past times that they "can" sexually assault a person and get away with it. A new message is now being put out that the law says you cannot, will not,and person can, will and do bring offenders to account.
