Brings tears to my eyes seeing how Jon was happy, feeling that energy, along with his brother... You can feel when Savatage was truly one. Wish I could've seen that show... That's probably the best gig I've never seen.

In 1990, at the Ballard Firehouse in Seattle I bought Jon FOUR LONG ISLAND ICED TEAS and drank 4 of my own BEFORE the shore. He was GREAT to talk to and a genuine guy. You're right, he was happy and it stinks that we were denied these guys right when they were going to get bigger. Jon just stood out in the middle of the floor with us drinking. Most people didn't know who he was but I remember a guy saying "I think that is Jon Oliva right there" and Jon turned to him and said "Good, now get me a long Island tea" then looked down and said "Oh yeah, that's right, I have this one. Now get me two of them". Jon was worried about the joint's gear and said that it was probably going to fail before they finished. Yep, just under a hour and the sound went south

Savatage are my favourite band. I worship Criss and his guitar playing ability (as well as the rest of the band of course).
I know they were never as big as they would have liked, but hopefully it counts that some random 16 year old kid from Melbourne is playing Savatage tracks with his mates in garages and venues.
    R.I.P Criss. /,,/

ZacMetal99 To that 16 y/o and his mates, they are becoming bigger now than ever, Let's wait and see what the future brings for Savatage, and people like us that know great music!!!!!! Rock On!!!!

ZacMetal99 I know Johnny Lee Middleton, I passed along your comment to him. I know he greatly appreciates your love of the band and their music. I too am a fan and have been since I was younger than you. I was just lucky enough to have been born in the right decade to be able to grow up seeing them play all the time along with all the other Metal Bands of the 80's. I'll let you know what he says. He has your TH-cam name, maybe he will reply to you, he is a busy guy. He loved Criss as much as anyone, so I know it means a lot to him to know people still care.
I know John Olivia too, I will pass along this message to him too, he will really appreciate the kind words about Criss.

When I was 16 I got to watch Savatage at Astro Skate in Tarpon Springs. I was so stoked to see them as I was younger and couldn't watch them at the clubs. It was a send off show before going out on tour. 1985 I believe. They were my favorite band.

Man, everybody always compliment Chris, and of course he's prolly the main engine behind it all, but my favourite's got to be Jon. My favourite vocalist for long while now, and can't believe how good his voice holds up here. All the growls and shit, wow just wow. I also noticed the first time that even when the dude talks all enthusiastic, I just can't seem to get enough of his voice. Seriously his voice is like a drug to me, lol :)

I'm a 51-year old dude from The Bronx. I was turned on to them after "Streets" came out in 1991. I was blown away. I eventually wound up getting their earlier albums and loved them. Never got to see them live unfortunately. They look like they totally rocked live.
"Streets" is one of my favorite albums of all time. Certainly one of the best concept albums ever.
Glad some of them reached a level of success with TSO.
But Savatage in this era with Chris Oliva & his bro were untouchable.

I couldn't hear or talk and my neck was killing me in class the next day. One of the best shows I've ever seen. At the end of “Hounds” Wacholz reminded me of Animal from the Muppets. I mean that in a reverential way. Just awesome energy and showmanship.

3rd time watching this show. Rage at there full might. I was sixteen at my friend’s house, he just got Sirens original pressing at release. I sat and listened to the whole album mesmerized. I loved it so much, my friend gave me the album. I just got my first drum kit and the first song I learned to play was Holocaust. Doc is an inspirational drummer, all the qualities, stage presence, performance, second to none. Saw them live at Wolfgang’s in San Francisco for the Power of the Night tour with the original lineup. The bassist was drunk as fuck! Savatage has always been one of my favorite bands. Everything thru Halls is unrivaled. Talent all over this band. These were the days we all lived the Metal life! Today’s music sucks. Thank god for these memories. 🤘🏻

Thanks for posting this! I am grateful to have seen the classic lineup of Savatage (with Jon and Criss Oliva) back in 1988, and also saw Black Sabbath with Ray Gillen (in I believe his very first show with them) in 1986 I think (both shows in San Antonio, Texas).
But to see Savatage and Ray Gillen on the same stage in this video is incredible! Thank God someone recorded this back then, and posted it on TH-cam. Very cool.
R.I.P. Ray Gillen, and R.I.P. Criss Oliva.
