Since I don't do youtube for anything other than sharing my experience, I spend my time on the projects you see (and several others). I occasionally get assistance from "real" youtube friends. That's when I update ya'll. I have a lot of footage shot and in the works so stay tuned :)
thanks for the reply and info. this is a really great car you are building . i will watch for your progress on it. have a great holiday. i am building a 56 belair cp and a 55 ragtop now.
I like the way you approach a problem.. you clearly illustrate the fact that analytical thinking doesn't require a computer.. Side bar note,, 1974 , just discharged,, I swore I would never again cut my hair or shave... 1976. I purchased a new snap on creeper.. 64 Dodge 330 wagon,, installing a new clutch and blow proof bell housing.. alone,, wagon on stands.. pulled the 4 spd up on my chest,, scooted under the car...... A 2ft braid wrapped around a wheel,, and nailed my head to the cushion on the creeper!!! I could just reach my buck... Had my ol'lady fix the mess in the morning.. I can relate... Not for nothin,, but ,I can hear that 58 screaming for a 348, trips, and a muncy.. just sayin..
Been there and done that with the creeper and hair......OUCH! As for the 348, muncie, and 3x2's............ it's got the original 348 and it was an original tri-power but it got replaced with a 409 single four. I put the 3x2 back on, and used three Stromberg 97's instead of the Rochesters. Also has an M-20 Muncie, with 3:55's in the original rear end. I like those rear ends (won't ever find a 9" Ford in one of my GM's). Stay tuned, much has been done to that car..........I just have to find time to do some camera work :(
Rick very cool car . i love 58 impalas and the front axel setup and the 409 tripower engine 4spd trans an rear combo . where did you get the front springs and brackets from ? i have a 59 and a 60 impala convertible projects and two 348 engines in the garage 1 runs and has tripower on it , and i have a tripower intake for on the other one . i would love to see and hear more on this 58 build , really cool car .. 60chevyjim
Sorry for this late response. I'm not much on this youtube stuff and the guy that talked me into it is out of pocket indefinetly. I'm trying to get a friend to shoot some video of that car (and two others I've been working on). I will catch ya'll up on a lot of work on the 58 ASAP! The axle came out of my junk yard. It's a 1951 Chev 1/2 ton axle. I rebuilt it, and used new "stock" 1/2 ton springs. The shackles and stationary rear brackets were hand made and Speedway products. This car has the original 348 tri-power already back in it. It had an M-20 muncie 4spd in it, and is back in. I'm building the rear end (original) right now (had to be modified a bit). I'll try and type up an update for all to see shortly.
That's awesome! I never messed with the "W" engines, and all of the sudden I wound up with 3 of them. I built the 409 that I had setting on a shelf for 20 years and put it in my 61 Bubble Top, and then went through the original 348 x 3 in the 58...............we'll see shortly how they perform. P.S. the other 348 will eventually wind up in something or it'll be bought by someone who needs it more than I do (I'm really a 396 freak)! :)
