I would love to show u around the smokies. I’m 58 and my father took my family there every year when we were little. Now I did the same with my family and now my grand children. It’s a great flute from Ohio. The biggest reason I got my pilots license was to be able to fly to the smokies and enjoy everything it has to offer. Especially the park it self. U are a good husband Corey. U deserve all your success. Love to u and your wonderful family. Blue skies

Cory, your wife is beautiful. I know since I was the guy in the wheelchair you signed my hat at Disneyland.
    More Beth in the videos!
Either way, love this content. I was amazed at your kindness and taking the time with me to really chat. I keep watching your videos over and over.
    You are an inspiration

Candidly, I enjoyed Tennessee more than any other part of my trip. Better than Bahamas, better than the Gulf Coast and Florida Keys.... I’m a southern country boy at heart.
      I really connect with it.
      I’ll be back.
      Thanks for watching!

I live about an hour flight west of there, just south of Nashville. East Tennessee is extremely beautiful, especially in the fall when all the trees change colors.

Goodness, I just seen that you were here already this year. I'm so glad you enjoyed your time here. I actually live here and this is why I want to fly. I want to get up high and see the mountains. So glad I found this video Cory. Had no Idea you were in my backyard playing.

Smoky Mountains are my second home. My wife and I own up in Gatlinburg and my dad taught me to drive in those mountains. Told me if I can drive there, I can drive any where. Noticed you started the video in Covington, GA. They filmed the first 5 episodes of the Dukes of Hazzard there. Love the video. Making me homesick for that area.

That Tennessee Apple Butter! I have been to Dollywood and YES, it's probably one of the best amusement parks in the world. Little known outside the area, but really great. Thanks for sharing this, I want to schedule a visit to Pigeon Forge! Your flying and travel vlogs are so dang good, I love it.

On the brightside it seems like at least your engine trouble turned into an impromptu cross country with your wife. (I'm assuming you hadn't already planned flying her out commercially and finishing the trip home together in the Cub beforehand.)

I think the Dixieland stampede is of pigeon forges more notable atractions. It has been around for years. I remember being in Gatlinburg an PF in the 80s and wow has it grown. You had to of almost flown right over me to of gotten to Tennessee from Covington GA. Could of gotten some good shots of several beautiful lakes.

Glad it was only the fuel and not something much worse!
I know it was still a serious situation because I had a similar issue with bad fuel in a C172 in 1991, the engine quit at 500' AGL but it restarted at about 300' AGL after switching tanks, the prop was still turning from the windmilling effect. It restarted while I was while setting up for an off airport landing in a large farmer's field, I was only 3/4 of a mile from the Lincolnton airport (IPJ, this was before they added the "K" to airport Identifier codes), I took a chance and made a straight in landing at the airport rather than committing to the farmer's field landing. Problem was, if the engine had quit again I would have lost my chance to land in a field and I probably would not have made it to the airport, it was a tough decision but the engine was running strong and smooth again so it was extremely hard to not go for the airport!!
Strange thing was that I heard NOTHING from my passengers during that engine failure, my passengers were my wife, son and daughter, all I remember was finding a place to land, maintained best glide speed and going through my engine out training procedures, I later learned that my wife and kids were screaming but I had totally tuned all that out!!
At that point it was just me, the airplane, the ground and my training!
That was at about 250 hours but I practiced emergency procedures many times after getting my PPL, I didn't stop practicing when I got my license.
I remember the DPE telling me that all I had was a license to learn and those words have stuck with me ever since!!
BTW, I live just a few miles east of the Smokey Mountains and I fly through those mountains fairly often. There's not many places to land though. I usually fly a CubCrafters Sport Cub S2, it's a rental so they don't allow us to land anywhere but approved strips.
And you're right, Pigeon Forge is an awesome place to vacation! :-)
    All the best! :-)

Y'all come back now! Ya hear? You probably saw Clingmans Dome just east of there. It's about as high as you can walk on the east coast. When you stand on the tower, you're 41' lower than Mt Mitchell which is the tallest in the east.

I'm surprised the fuel filter didn't strain out all that Bahama's sand??? Does the Carbon Cub use a fuel pump or gravity feed from the wings down to the engine, but you did mention gasolator. So that maybe should have helped, but nothing beats a good dual fuel filter system that can be switch like switching to L or R tanks, I've also seen where a funnel filter is used when filling the tanks when out of the country or every time. You dodged a real bullet with that crossing. I bet Mike P. could design a real fail safe system. You can get bad fuel anywhere. Can you tell I'm over cautious???

  • @OneKoolDude

    Contaminated fuel ??
Im a heavy Jet Mechanic and of course all fuel is filtered to the engines.
I have zero experience with anything smaller that a 727,
Do small piston engines have fuel filters ??
Cory said there was contaminants in the carb bowl,
Only way for contaminants to get to the carb is no filter ??
    Please educate me.

What was the green foliage you flew over in Tennessee? Type of trees or just bushes?

You sure do have a lot of faith in your single engine, flying over that much open water to the Bahamas. I wouldn't have the confidence to do that. I haven't flown an airplane in over 30 years but I have taken the first steps to get current again. When I was flying, we were not allowed to fly under 1,000 feet AGL over land and under 500 feet over water. I see that you fly well below these altitudes, skimming water and touching down anywhere you like. I'm not up on all of the rules right now but did the rules change so you are now allowed to do these things?

    • @flycory
      @flycory  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Open water is far less scary to me than rocky mountains I fly over at my home!
I think you need to re-read the regulations. There never has been any rule stating you have to fly over 1,000/500'. Brush up on those regs and fly with confidence!
      Thanks for watching.

I had the same thing happen to me a couple months ago. Had to abort a takeoff. Its a mystery to me how contaminated fuel gets past the fuel filter. Any explanation? I'd appreciate the insight as that condition has me very concerned.

@@flycory I just like watching all of what you guys do. I'm a Utah pilot who flies a corporate Citation, so my flying is pretty boring. A Kitfox one day though (been to the McBean factory twice, and the old Denney one once, and have flown with Paul Leadabrand in Boise). Keep it up.
