Polyface Beef: How They Do It

I recently had the opportunity to visit one of Polyface Farm's rental properties and take a look at all their setup for cow fencing, water, and feeding hay.
The fencing system is extremely simple: two parallel fences subdivided by removable perpendicular cross-fences.
Water is supplied by an underground pipe, equipped with T's and valves every few hundred yards. This allows the 100 gal. water trough and float valve to be moved with the cows. On this particular farm the water was supplied by a pump, however on most of Polyface's farms water is supplied by gravity from higher altitude ponds.
As it is fall, hay must be fed to the cattle. This is accomplished on pasture as bales are brought out and spread for the cows. Each day the cows are rotated to another area of hay to spread manure and keep the grass from being destroyed.

That is winter hay feeding. When the cows are on pasture during the winter months they feed hay.
