Very professional , I was a police-officer for over 30 years , 10 of those years was in charge of a truck squad. I investigated many, many truck accidents and fatal accidents that could have been avoided if every driver did his or her pre-trip as described in this video. Excellent job.
Yes they should however which employee will allow you to do like 1h of inspection every day?? I'm not a truck driver but I think 98% of drivers don't do any inspections at all, idk do you have like 1h in the log book reserved for every day pre-trip inspection?? I do watch many truckers on youtube and I don't see any of them showing us pre-trip inspection... it means they don't show that because its boring? or they not doing it?
@@Voltomess You’re right it is just not practical. I am a soon to be full time driver getting my cdl soon but grew up around trucking. People hardly check their truck out. Some kick the tires and do a general look. I look to do a good inspection within reasonable time though. Check the fluids, tires, clean the glass, check overall condition. A lot of the trucks I get in and it needs oil, low on coolant from some not doing their job. But yeah overall it is not even close to an hour.
Hey I wanted to say thank you for your videos not only was I going to a different school but watching your videos really helped me say the proper wording to pass my first 2 parts of my Cdl A road test. Thank you a million times I could imagine how excellent and thorough your classes must be.
Thank you. You did really hit on something I didn't know about examiners not being drivers...but only book smart about CDL driving! Your videos are my refresher course.
Just passed my cdl class A road test today, no restrictions and man am i so happy! For anybody going to take the road test in rahway nj, you have to say all of this or they will fail you. I failed my first time and i said almost everything in this video, but i honestly felt like the lady instructing me wasnt paying attention. My second time, i booked at Eatontown instead of rahway and man is that place so much better. Pre-trip inspection took no more than 5 minutes ! the guy stopped me right away and told me i had enough points. After that the test is smooth if you can park and drive. So i really recommend taking it at Eatontown while all the instructors are super friendly ppl (they may become more strict in the future). Met too many people at rahway taking their test for their 4th or more time, and holding them back is inspection, but theyd passed easily elsewhere. P.S Thanks so much for these videos Jon, im sure you've helped thousands of people acquire their license! Especially someone like me, i didn't have the money to go to a driving school and learn.

Isn't the DOT tape supposed to cover at least 50% of the length of the trailer and bumper?? By-the-way, the picture inset for each part is an awesome touch to any video
What about the clearance lights not being cracked damaged or broken. The are properly mounted and secured. They are clean and functional and are Amber in color?
Aren't you required to check that air can be found at the back of the trailer to be assured that the trailer brakes are functional as part of the A pre-trip inspection?
I work for a global delivery company and each day I'm given a different tractor to drive. How long should you spend or at least a minimum of how should it take to properly do a safety pre-trip on a tractor? I'm butting heads w/ a supervisor cause he saying it shouldn't take more than 7 mins for a driver to fully do a proper safety pre-trip on a tractor. I feel that if a driver was to actually perform a proper pre-trip, then it should be taking that driver at least 10-15 mins to do it correctly and not 7 mins which feels so ridiculously rushed. If there was an unfortunate accident due to negligence for preforming an improper pre-trip, can the driver be held liable? Would a lawyer or D.A. possibly institute legal proceedings against (prosecute) that driver if it was known that only 7 mins was spent doing a pre-trip? Have you heard of any past incidents where there was a judgement against a driver for negligence due to an improper pre-trip that could of been avoided?

I am taking my test Thursday and am fully prepared and ready to pass.. I work for the boro and am taking a 36,000 lb peterbilt and a 14,000 lb tilt body trailer. However my trailer has fully functional electric brakes not air. Which I've heard is fine. My concern is when I have to do the tug test the truck is too powerful and will not be held in place from the trailer electric brakes even tho they are fully functional. Should I simply mention this to the examiner ? What is the protocol thank you!
been a long time since youve commented on this. hoping to get some advice. do you have any tips on studying all the things on the inspection. theres soooo much information.

How can you have a guy who speaks no English be a tester in charge of someone's future. I am going to Cherry Hill next time.
