When Rolex introduced the Daytona in 1963, chronographs had already been in existence for many years, which included brands like Omega and Heuer (now TAG Heuer) producing notable models. The Rolex models used a Valjoux 72 movement until 1988 when Rolex used the Zenith El Primero movement, but made it less inferior by dropping the vibrations per hour to 28,000 from 36,000. Only thing I can agree with Cristian here is the price, everything else is just the opinion of a Rolex fan boy tbh, Omega had a chronograph and a two tone before Rolex did as far as I know… what am I missing?
I don’t think everyone who loves watches is only looking at residual value. My perspective is that I enjoy omega a lot more than Rolex and from a customer experience it’s night and day. We most likely come from different worlds but if I see someone wearing an omega I instantly know we will have way more in common than someone wearing a Rolex regardless of the model. Also I think the Speedmaster is a more attractive chronograph than the Daytona. Last point is if I can buy a watch new because it is a current model then I will lean towards that because that is my watch. I’m not keen on wearing another person watch unless the watch is unattainable new like vintage for example. Cheers
I agree with many of the points made here. However, I think the angle here is that these Speedmasters in two-tone are by far and away the best looking two-tone watches I have seen in a long time. I'm not a Speedmaster guy, but these look amazing, far nicer than the Rolex equivalent. And I think I also prefer Omega's gold mix compared to Rolex (in both yellow and pink), its bit more subtle and muted.
Laying down the Trump to close out how it's "Not so great" was a stone cold killer move. Agree on all points and what I initially thought too: Absolutely gorgeous, especially the Sedna Rose Gold...but at 18K when a The Rolex Guinness (I know, GMT vs Chronograph...but still) is a few thousand less? I'd go for the Guinness all day over the two-tone speedy due to brand, value, and how i still think it has the edge on the hotness factor as well. I'd rather go classic speedy or the white over the two-tone, especially at 18k for two-tone.
I mean yeah, it's definitely a chronograph, and it has 3 sundials, and it costs a lot of money... so yeah definitely a Rolex Daytona Homage... except you can go to the dealer and buy one...

When these first came out, I fell in love with the gold and silver dial, but once I saw the rose gold in person, photos and video just do not do it justice. I agree with you that 18 K makes it prohibitive and outside the value preposition of a speed master. But they offer the rose gold version with a black strap, which takes the price down to around 11 five. Does this version change your opinion of the value proposition? It does for me. In fact I want to put it on a rubber strap. Looks so clean with a rubber strap.
Update. Purchased on rubber strap last week. Insane. So in love with this watch! Perfection. Can’t stop taking in the dial in different light situations - it’s a different dial every time. Gorgeous.
