Using Olaplex In A Perm... And Shampooing Right Away!

  • I have two goals in this video.
    1.To find out if you really shouldn't shampoo immediately after a perm
    2. To find out if Olaplex makes a difference for perm results, even allowing you to immediately shampoo
    No, I'm not paid by Olaplex. I wasn't paid to make this video.
    I just want the truth...

    Nice video and thanks for making one as it guides you on perming with olaplex . Quick one when you add olaplex no. 1 to perm lotion and neutraliser , do you need to apply it ( olaplex no 1 diluted in water) to rods after neutralising and leave for 7.5 mins?

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching. Olaplex recommends two different ways to perm with their product. I chose the simpler of the two.
      I applied 1/8 of #1 to the waving lotion and then later to the neutralizer. I processed the neutralizer for manufacturer recommended time (5 min) the only difference was what Olaplex calls creep time. After rinsing the waving lotion and towel blotting just let sit 5 min before applying neutralizer

    The olaplex website instructions for using with a perm suggest treating hair with a mixture of #2 and a protein treatment (maybe aphogee?), allowing that to fully dry, then wrapping and using #1 with waving lotion and neutralizer. Thoughts about this?

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Olaplex has 2 versions of perming with Olaplex. The one you brought up is for more compromised hair and then there is the "standard" method that I did. I think method 2 is worth a try but mostly I was testing whether I could really shampoo after and compare to untreated hair.
      My thoughts on Olaplex is that it is great for keeping hair feeling good but would not expect it to work on hair that is already too compromised for the service in the first place 😁

  • @laurasaylor6892

    Now I donot add it to the perm solution I do perm solution just as it is then neutralizer and without washing out the neutralizer put the olaplex right on top of that

  • @jnokomis
    @jnokomis ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you considered an air perm? Doing the first step then instead of using the neutralizer you just make sure you rinse very well then leave the rods in overnight. Next day take them out. I still don't wash for a couple days but my curl lasts until I cut it off

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard of this, it's my understanding that, that's how perms were originally processed. I could be wrong though. I'll have to look it up. But also, I should do a side by side video on this because I've never tried for myself. Thanks for watching!

  • @SaintCecy1121
    @SaintCecy1121 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    After adding the perming solution and washing it off then drying the rods would it be best to towel dry, air drying or blowdrying them before adding the neutralizer to finish off?

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always do 3 steps. Towel blot, then use a paper towel( for extra absorption) and towel blot each rod individually. Finally let sit for 5 min. The sitting will help it dry a little more but really it helps start the neutralizing process. Thanks for watching!

  • @SaintCecy1121
    @SaintCecy1121 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just to insure that curls will develop. Would Rolling the rods on and sleeping with them for a night help? afterwards in the morning you wet the hair & then add all the solutions .?

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it would help. I would be more concerned about creating frizz by sleeping in the rollers. The perm works on different chemical bonds within the hair than a wet set does.

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question and thanks for watching!
      There are so many different perms they all vary a little but the safest bet is, getting hair wet is ok but its important to style afterward. The reduction process is still happening and any prolonged manipulation could effect the curl. Minimal brushing/combing, a slippery pillow case like silk or satin, and avoid water sports. At least for those first couple days

    I’m considering getting a perm (mine grew out). But 3 months ago I bleached the hair framing my face. I was stupid and didn’t consider how you shouldn’t bleach permed hair. I had a salon do demi permanent color to hide the bleach fail. My perm has almost completely grown out now, but I know I still have bleached hair. Can I get another perm safely?

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the question! It is tough to say without feeling your hair. There are perms that are formulated specifically for bleached hair but the two main factors would be the porosity and the fact that the perm will almost definitely fade your current color. If you are willing to accept the color fading then consider how much your hair tangles when wet. If it is brushed out and then tangles immediately when wet, I wouldn't recommend a perm.

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Long answer. TLDR- yes but with caution.
      There are some additional factors at play. Highlighting and perms always damage hair. Though we do have some control over how much damage is caused. My advice for Olaplex is that it will make a good service better but won't make an impossible service great. It helps but if your hair is already damaged to the point of breakage then it might not help enough

  • @ladycarizza47

    Do you think it would be safe to perm hair that has been bleached if you use Olaplex? I have olaplex 1 and 2 because I’m naturally curly, but after bleaching and dying my curls were left much looser. I want to spot perm the sections where the curls aren’t as tight, but fear I will break my hair.

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My personal take is this- If you wouldn't do it without Olaplex, you may not be wowed by the results with Olaplex.
      If it were me, rather than spot perming I would try a reparative treatment like Keratin Complex PBO- Natural Curl Finish, to try and restore the natural curl rather than re-manufacture it.

    Don't laugh at me
    But chemical treatment like hair straightening, hair dye can form a thin water resistant layer? Then does it matter if i wash my hair after 24-48hours?
    How chemical treatment works on hair cuticle?
    Does conditioning or other emollient etc work on cuticle?

    • @CosmoDad
      @CosmoDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I promise I won't laugh.
      Hair dye does not form a water resistant layer.
      With some dyes just rinsing your hair instead of shampooing can help the dyes "set" and possibly help them last longer.
      Chemical treatment is too vague of a term but most treatments including conditioners help close the cuticle keeping essential oils in the hair so it can feel softer. They will never make the hair unable to get wet.

      It's hard to say. If you shampooed early and you feel like it ruined your perm then it is often ok to re-do the process after 2 weeks but I would leave that up to your stylist's discretion because neither all products or hair are the same and it may or may not be advisable to re-do so soon

      To the best of my knowledge, there are no beauty products that will make the hair waterproof. The hair will always be penetrable by water. Products that offer humidity resistance don't prevent water from getting in the hair. They actually make the water penetrate more evenly.

      @@beautybrain3304 Oils and waxes do help repel water but surfactants like shampoo easily help remove them from the hair. The hair straightening product claiming to be water resistant sounds like marketing language to me. The real red flag is "organic silicone" what does that really mean? The real problem is that there really isn't standardized language to to describe humidity resistance. It is really just a marketing term that they are hoping people will interpret in a positive way. Usually when a product is claiming humidity resistance, they are trying to say it will reduce frizz and help keep hair styled. The bottom line is that no beauty products will prevent water from getting in your hair when you wash it.
