I thought they were going to talk about Brazil's APACs. It's a really cool project where everyone working inside the prison are inmates. There are like two guards to make sure no one's escaping, but everything else, including security, is done by the inmates themselves. It works surprisingly well and less prisoners get arrested again than in any other systems here.

I love this channel! so informative yet funny at the same time. but just so everybody knows the prisoners run every prison the guards just work there 💯
There's a great show on Netflix called The Worlds Toughest Prisons. It shows a guy staying in prisons all over the world to experience just how it is to be a prisoner there. A lot of those prisons are obviously controlled by the guards BUT the actual INSIDE of the prisons are ran by the inmates. Its really insane.
If the Prisoners are in Charge I want to be in charge of something In my life I just don't know what to do to get there .

This reminds me of that show on A&E where some bad kids are sent to a jail program where the prisoners try and turn their lives around for the better.
It was bad enough in GP with boredom and nothing to do but to play cards, sleep or watch TV. Going into solitaire would make me go insane in the membrane.

Poverty causes crime in those countries. Lack of fear of imprisonment in the U.S. certainly contributes to our issues and overcrowding.
They can't keep drugs out of American Prisons. I think people need reevaluate their perception of power dynamics.

In El Salvador, the guards don’t even bother setting foot inside. They just guard the outside so no one escapes.

Work in American prisons.
Our ratio is more of a 60-120 inmates per officer 90% of the time. 9 to 1 is laughable in my state
They’re one in brazil where they run it themself. It’s got a 5% repeat offender rate. The goal is to reform prisoners and make them feel at home. It’s similar to the ones in Europe where the punishment is the lack of freedom and not the horrible, humanity-lacking prisons in the rest of the world.

Let’s get this out the way. Every prison is practically ran by offenders, they just allow us (Officers) to go home at the end of the day because they outnumber us. There are 3,500 offenders at my unit. If they wanted to keep us there they could take over the unit fairly quickly. It’s something the think about.

Is anyone here from Philippines or South East Asia? What is the reason for such strict drug penalties. As a teenager I saw the Vince Vaughn Joaquin Phoenix movie from the early 2000s or late 90s, return to paradise or something like that. It was about Joaquin Phoenix character caught in Thailand with a bunch of hash and was going to be executed for it. So Philippines, Thailand, Malay and Indonesia I've heard of drug charges leading to execution but don't understand why
