Why CAN'T She-Ra appear in the Masters of the Universe Revelation & Revolution & Unnamed Trilogy?

  • We know Masters of the Universe: Revelation, the Netflix animated series that debuted in 2021, was designed as a trilogy. Hopefully its previous success carries over to its sophomore entry Masters of the Universe: Revolution (coming to Netflix early 2024), enough for Netflix to greenlight its yet to be titled third chapter shortly after its debut.
But the question that still remains for many fans, questions still asked of us all the time, is will She-Ra, He-Man's twin sister, appear in this Revelation trilogy?

He-Man & Skeletor appeared in about 20% of the She-ra shows, and the He-Man & She-ra Secret of the sword movie is the greatest work of the entire original MOTUPOP era. Also, MOTU Classics, and many DC and Marvel comicbooks in the 2000s & 2010s feature the twins back together in their proper storyline, as do the Origins and Masterverse lines. Every story since has been derivative. The MOST official story, is the one where the twins are twins. To use the title lyrics of Mr. McMahon's theme, this has got "No Chance in Hell". Sony Pictures has its grip tight on _He-Man_ as an television & film franchise. Similarly, Dreamworks -- which is owned by NBC/Universal -- has full TV & film distribution rights to the _She-Ra_ characters, thanks to its absorption of Filmation Studios (the original animation house for the original _He-Man_ & _She-Ra_ '80s cartoons).
The only character that can be used across both sibling franchises is Hordak, since he first started as a _He-Man_ villain originally (hence, why his figures were in the MOTU packaging & have more playability than the original She-Ra dolls that used the standard Barbie mold, thereby making them practically impossible to pose & because they also had fabric outfits & synthetic hair meant to be brushed or combed, they weren't really designed for battle-play, which is exactly why the recent action figures of She-Ra/Adora are much better than the originals, even if the only one that is the best of both worlds is actually the pricey Dreamworks She-Ra, since she has the synthetic hair & fabric outfits [she is in her She-Ra battle outfit originally, but has her former Horde uniform as a backup outfit if you want to change her from She-Ra to Adora] of the Barbie mold original [however, unlike the original She-Ra dolls that just included a removable tiara, if I recall correctly, Dreamworks She-Ra comes equipped with both She-Ra & Adora head sculpts with synthetic hair that can be swapped between each other] but also has articulated flexibility that's perhaps better than the Masterverse She-R action figure, since she can mount Swift Wind no problem, whereas the original She-Ra dolls use Barbie style body parts so they can't really move much & the Masterverse She-Ra is an actual action figure with a good-to-great amount of articulation, but is still wobbly whenever put on Swift Wind) before getting moved over to be the main antagonist for _She-Ra_ when her show began.
The thing is, Hordak was redeemed in the 2018 Netflix reboot ('cause Entrapdak became a thing), so if Hordak were to show up, it would have to be entirely separated from the Netflix cartoon, just as the purported live action _She-Ra_ movie or next TV series is expected to be. Nonetheless, here's to hoping live action _She-Ra_ won't turn out as bad as the live action _Masters of the Universe_ film starring Dolph Lundgren (the Russian villain from the _Rocky_ movies) as Adam/He-Man.
The concerning matter is, the 2018 Netflix _She-Ra_ has both fervent fans & bull-headed detractors. The fans of it would want to see some aspects of it permanently etched into the She-Ra mythos (such as maybe making Catradora [Yes, I know, it's toxic from seasons 2-4, but Catra gets a "redemption" arc in season 5, not to mention that ND Stevenson had planned Catradora to be endgame ever since the first episode in spite of how self-destructive Catra is throughout the series once Adora switches sides to join the Rebellion as the vessel for the legacy mantle of She-Ra] canon across the board going forward, since in the original 1985 animated series from Filmation, Adora/She-Ra X Sea Hawk was the canon ship, because the intellectual property as a whole at that time didn't directly cater to or even readily acknowledge the LGBTQ+ community and only featured white & black good VS evil morality with no shades of gray whatsoever, aside from the fact that the various members of the Horde all collectively resented each other & even the broken student-to-teacher dynamic of Skeletor and Hordak were at odds whenever they crossed paths when, logically, the villains should've combined their forces to ensure the sibling heroes' ultimate downfall before turning on each other), whereas those who deride it would rather it fall into a pit of obscurity never to be brought up again.

I've been reflecting a lot ever since i saw this video and since i began to watch the filmation She-ra cartoon, yet i still yet to watch the Netflix She-ra if i consider it, but in the end i was thinking about something in specific.
There are 2 controversial things i will say, the 1st one being as much as i like She-ra to join He-man once again it's alright if she didn't and had her own legacy shown to more different audiences, the netflix/DreamWorks She-ra certainly did a good work attracting an audience, I'm glad for that audience to have enjoyed that show when it lasted and I'm sure if there was another take on She-ra, perhaps there is no need to have He-man part of it's lore.
Now the second controversial thing is this... I don't need a new show, movie or comics to have She-ra battle alongside He-man, why is that? Simple, because i rather have my imagination to have that, no, i don't mean anything like "if it were up to me I'd make a sequel, reboot or whatsoever", if anything i just would simply use my imagination for fun only, i don't need to make a movie, cartoon or comics to prove my love for both He-Man and She-ra, all i have is my interest for the filmation shows, my dedication to draw fan art for both shows and my collecting hobby for the Masterverse figures.
Now i don't want anyone to get me wrong as i said that, I'm not saying the other shows that aren't filmation suck, they're good for those who love it and i respect them, like let's say for example is: if you like cartoon 1 better than cartoon 2 that's good, viceversa that's good, if you like both cartoons that's good and/or if you don't like neither cartoons that's good too, just as long as you don't give any hateful action to those who enjoy certain cartoons then we're all good.
Yeah sorry about that long to read comment, i just wanted to let anyone know my point, all i can say is i do hope this new season will be good for those who are looking forward to it.

@@chomper720 Dreamworks got to use Hordak, because Hordak became She-Ra's arch-villain in the Filmation cartoon, whereas Catra was her rival, so that part of the _She-Ra_ lore (alongside a truncated version of the title character's origin of being kidnapped as an infant by Hordak to be taken to serve the Evil Horde stranded on Eternia's sister planet Etheria [which finds itself part of the pocket dimension of Despondos due to reasons that are further explained in due course as later seasons of the _She-Ra_ reboot were produced] until a joyride with Catra aboard a filched skiff saw Force Captain Adora stumble across the Sword of Protection embedded in a large boulder inside of a clearing found within the Whispering Woods & upon pulling it out King Arthur-style, artificial intelligence Light Hope implores Adora to become the new vessel for She-Ra [the mantle of a powerfully legendary female warrior who serves as Etheria's ultimate savior] by holding aloft the Sword of Protection & uttering the transformative phrase, "For the honor of Grayskull" [this is comparable to her big brother Adam saying "By the power of Grayskull, I have the power" to transform from his mild-mannered princely alter-ego to the ripped barbarian hero He-Man]) remains canon, even if Adam/He-Man (the big brother to Adora/She-Ra), Uncle Keldor who becomes the cackling skeletal arch-foe of He-Man known as "The Dark Lord of Destruction" Skeletor, the twin's biological parents King Randor & Queen Marlena, and even the mystically medieval Castle Grayskull itself cannot legally appear on the _She-Ra_ reboot (even though the terms "Eternia" [used as a pass code to unlock First One's technology] & "Grayskull" [used as the codename for a squadron of rebels who accompanied the She-Ra before Adora, named Mara, into battle against their First One's leaders] are still mentioned, nonetheless).
Of course, in the 2018 reboot made by ND Stevenson, both Hordak & Catra are redeemed, with Entrapdak (Entrapta X Hordak) & Catradora (Catra X Adora/She-Ra) being canon, whereas in the 1985 original, neither villain is redeemed. Particularly regarding Catra, however, certain episodes of the 1985 Filmation cartoon suggest that Adora/She-Ra enjoys teasing Catra to the point that therein lies as undertone of something more going on between the two of them, yet in spite of that dynamic (which became romantic in the reboot after 3 prior seasons of being at odds with each other, since I don't count the 1st season as Catra truly wanting to battle Adora/She-Ra, but merely seeing her friend's transformation into the fabled "Princess of Power" as a phase that Catra initially hoped Adora would forgo), Adora/She-Ra is instead paired with space pirate/smuggler Sea Hawk (Comparatively, as far the 2018 reboot is concerned, Sea Hawk is more flamboyant than macho, gives off vibes akin to Han Solo from _Star Wars_ & is in a back and forth romantic relationship with part-time mermaid Mermista, who is Etheria's sarcastically deadpan water princess).

@chomper720 No, Mattel can use Orko and Hordak because they had action figures in the 1980s. Hordak was a big part of the Masters of the Universe toyline and minicomics. That gave Mattel ownership of those characters. They only need permission from Universal to use the cartoon designs, because Dreamworks (which is owned by Universal) bought the rights to the Filmation library. The She-Ra cartoon and most of She-Ra's supporting cast were co-created by Filmation, which is why Mattel cannot freely make toys of them. They CAN use the toy version of She-Ra, because they copyrighted her back in the 80s.

Even without the legal rights to show her, they really should at least do a strong hint of Adora/She-Ra/Etheria's existence, even if it's just a symbolic symbol or interrupted piece of dialogue. @@chomper720 Technically, they did.
The terms Eternia & Grayskull were still used, however the show runners had to find other uses for them other than what they truly are, such as having Eternia be a pass code to unlock First One's technology (and by proxy, reveal that Adora -- and thus, He-Man himself too, seeing as he's her big brother, after all -- is a descendant of the First Ones [a group of Eternians who settled sister planet Etheria several ages ago]) and have Grayskull be the codename for a group of rebels befriended by Mara (the She-Ra who preceded Adora over a thousand years ago) to go against their First One's leaders (perhaps this acts as a possible nod to King Randor's brother Keldor [in reality, he's actually a blue-skinned despot exiled from his own home world whom the all-too-trusting patriarch of Eternia formally adopted as his sibling, thus making him the twin's evil uncle] becoming the cackling Skeletor without name-dropping "The Dark Lord of Destruction" officially).
Likewise, Adora's origin of being an infant kidnapped from her true home by Hordak to serve The Horde on Etheria until she switches sides upon becoming the powerful legacy warrior She-Ra remains canon to the 2018 reboot, all the same, so Eternia (and thereby, Adam/He-Man & everyone else from the main MOTU lineup) and the mysterious Castle Grayskull can still speculatively exist without ever actually having a crossover between He-Man & She-Ra.

  • @PatriciaCross
    @PatriciaCross 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Pretty sure they just teased her at the end of Ep 5 of Revolution.
Skeletor has a flashback during this season where he remembers his time with Hordak. There is a scene where Hordak is in what is probably the royal nursery, you see an infant which is probably Adam (or could be Adora) and then you see him escape through the window. You only see his back; but the positioning of his shoulder and arm is the same as uf someone were carrying a baby. I am pretty sure this was him taking Adora.
Then Ep 5 has an end scene where female warrior in Horder gear, two swords on her back, and a Hordak insoured helmet is reviving Hordak in a vat (similar to a bacta tank.) She removes her helmet; but we do not see her face.
I am pretty sure this is Adora.
Rights to MOTU and Princess of Power are tricky. Most of the Horde are technically MOTU characters; but the cartoon used them to buff up the POP ranks instead since MOTU was going into re-runs.
You wind up having to pay Mattel twice for rights to both...but the Horde are tied into the rights for both (except for the female villains.)
She Ra and He Man are a both grey in terms of including in each others adaptations. I am not exactly sure if either are just freely included in each other's deals...but there has to be a reason the Netflix She Ra series didn't use him, and why She Ra MOTU adaptations tend to be able to eventually use She Ra. To be fair; the team on Princesses of Power care more about quality than most production companies, and likely realized adding He Man (while it would have boosted ratings) would have overall hurt the narrative. They probably could have brought him in in the final season.
Kevin Smith is borrowing a lot from the actual plans for the original toyline. The Horde is being used as it was originally intended, and Teela is getting her arc as the Sorceress/Goddess as originally planned. Until the Barbie division took control of She Ra because they claimed domain of "Girl Toys", this is also closer to what was originally planned for her as well.

So I do think the Horde without Etheria and She-Ra can work perfectly. In the audioplays u just had the three different groups: Skeletor, Horde, snakemen. Sometimes they worked together, sometimes not.
I don’t like the Netflix show, bc it wants to be SO super serious, so that it totally looses character and fun imo. But if they get paid for a third season, yeah, at least end with the reunion of both siblings.

Nonetheless, Filmation (and not Mattel) always owned the animated part of the MOTU, whereas Mattel made the action figures, Barbie-molded dolls, and even children's costumes of the title characters that would've come equipped with foam or plastic weapons back in the day, however cancel culture/morality police/social interest groups/parental lobbyist organizations would likely have these props removed if the costumes were made nowadays to be marketed to kids rather than adult collectors.

Basically, bring in Teela, Duncan, a mortally wounded Adam, and a few others in as Eternian refugees after Skeletor has conquered Eternia, but not yet managed to open Grayskull.
The series would still keep Adora as the main character, but Skeletor would replace Hordak as the main antagonist.
In my head, I imagine a story in which the refugees know that one among them betrayed He-Man, causing him to die in battle against Skeletor. Adam is the prime suspect. The only reason they don't kill him is because Duncan insists it couldn't be him.

It could even be argued that She-Ra outshines He-Man. If She is not as strong as Him it isn't by a significant amount, and She-Ra has powers He-Man Doesn't.
That is like saying Shazam and Lady Shazam are two separate franchise and yet They both say SHAZAM to get Their powers (I won't get into how odd I think changing Their back story was). However treating He-Man and She-Ra like separate franchise is dangerously close to changing Their backstory in the same way.
He-Man and She-Ra both have The Power of Grayskull. Trying to say, or even pretend the Two characters are not connected. Is a disservice to both.

ND Stevenson's series reformed Hordak (cue Entrapdak) and Catra (cue Catradora) whilst killing off Shadow Weaver (good riddance to abusively manipulative toxic parenting) & Glimmer's mom Queen Angella (or rather, trapping her between a broken reality that was collapsing in on itself & the main reality of the rebooted series). Also, we don't neccessrily know what form the live-action version of _She-Ra_ will take, but it's high probable that it won't be based on ND Stevenson's popular yet controversial reboot, but instead, be more in line with the 1985 original series, hopefully. At any rate, just so long as it's not as bad as the Dolph Lundgren live-action _He-Man_ film of the late '80s/early '90s, I'm being cautiously optimistic about how _She-Ra_ will be continued.

@@TherealRNOwwfpooh for odvious reasons you cant copy what stevens did exectly. and what most people remember is the 80s film mation ot this day. im not sayin gstevenson iddnt do ogod or bad. im just saying.. we got 3 different he man versions alreadsy. we can stand to have another she ra version. and hordak as a thanos level threwat ( why cant we have an mcu build up event)?

    • @TherealRNOwwfpooh
      @TherealRNOwwfpooh ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@kewnst It's just, with Hordak being reformed at the end of ND Stevenson's series thanks to Entrapta (and also She-Ra in her final form [with her 5th season transformation combining bits from Glimmer via the updated boots, Bow via the heart emblem between her neck piece/shoulder pad, and the tiara resembling Catra's face mask except shiny gold rather than metallic red in color] purging the evil essence of Horde Prime from Hordak's body & glossing over the atrocities The Horde had committed for the past 4 seasons for the sake of a feel-good happy ending), it'll feel weird for -- or perhaps, even akin to a slap in the face to -- those who embraced ND Stevenson's take on _She-Ra_ for the IP to suddenly go backwards with a return to form for both _She-Ra_ as a character (including depicting her with her curvier & bustier body type strictly for the male gaze/to shill toys) whilst also reverting Hordak back to an irredeemable bad guy when the 2018 reboot had Entrapta bring out the secret goodness within the wannabe overlord (who only sought the subjugation of Etheria just so he could be seen as worthy to stand alongside his fascist creator, Horde Prime, since both Hordak & Wrong Hordak were defective clones of Horde Prime who ultimately rebelled against their maker, thanks predominately to their closeness with the autistic geeky tech-obsessed princess/The Horde's resident mad scientist [complete with maniacal laugh, even if there's no maliciousness to be found within Entrapta as a character on the 2018 reboot, as she's purely on the side of scientific achievement & technological advancement above all else, not really caring about the persistent war between the noble Rebellion & the supposedly evil Horde until the final season when those created from artificial technology as well as the few flesh & blood people she's come to care about are forcibly reprogrammed & deliberately mind controlled by Horde Prime's hive mind cult mentality through wiping the memory banks of those made by artificial technology until their past memories return & through the use of chips embedded in people's necks that needed removing, otherwise they would've remained subservient to Horde Prime forever]).
What's more, even though they were each redeemed at the end, it's gonna take work for Catra & Hordak to make up for the atrocities knowingly committed by the Horde for the past 4 seasons of the 2018 reboot, but if the next iteration of _She-Ra_ undoes all of that character growth, we're back to square one again.

Noelle is a dead name now. Noelle made the transition to Nate Stevenson and uses ND Stevenson as his social media handle. But, whenever talking about his past identity, he uses they/them pronouns, almost as if Noelle & Nate were two entirely separate people when they're just one person having a sex change from one gender to the other.

When she was came out originally dora was Prince Adam long lost sister that was stolen by The horde in the original series of she-er. I don't see how they can keep them separate. Not for He-man there will not be She-er. That's what started it all for She-er.

I know this comment is late but even if not in s2 of the new series and it somehow gets a s3 that they could do something with She-Ra by then. You don't see a quick scene of her mourning Adams death in s1 and by the most recent trailer the king dies so to not show her for Adam's or her father's funeral would be messes up. I could see them set her up for s3 as having Hordak captured and imprisoned her.
I've always wanted an updated look to She-Ra for years. The 2002-03 reboot being cut short and cancelled before her debute was unfortunate then I can't even with the princesses of power series.

If they get access of she-ra programming they should have had Adam and Teela get together and have a daughter that becomes She-Ra and have them send her away with someone they trusted to a peaceful realm so not to risk her being hurt by either Hordak or Skelator. But Hordak is sent there as well by Skelator.

OK, we all know that Dreamworks is the legal owner of She-ra, but what about Adora? Do they own the rights for that name?
What we have on the last scene of "Revolotion" is the introduction of Despara, the evil Adora's alter-ego. Perhaps this is a grey area, and Netflix will follow that direction, exploring the story of Adora, before her true origin is revealed, and being presented with the sword of protection.
We all know who she is, but if they don't use the name She-ra, they are infringing the copyrights.
As far as i remember the "Despara" concept was only developed by Mattel, during the MOTU Classics line.

There can't have a He Man continuation of the 80's storyline without She Ra!!!
She is a major part of Masters of the Universe as well.

so was this because at some point the he-man creators sold she-ra same as how the MCU could not get spiderman or Magneto I forget, though it would probably be bad as they would probably make he-man a beta to his sister or slowly put him in a dark corner like with season 1, im hoping season 3 is good like 2 and dont make it annoying by luring us in with a good season 2, the trailer looked good, i forgot how did she-ra get kidnapped as a baby again? ya think being twins she and adam would be together with someone like their mother or caretaker who could probably fight

    P.S.
Please don't destroy the beautiful art and feminimity of the character- Princess Adora/She-Ra.
