  • Here is a brand new Heritage Railway location on this channel, quite a special one for me. Me and my family spent a week down in Dorset, and spent a few days having a great time returning to the Swanage Railway, a place I hadn't been to since I was a kid, as I remember being there in the past for when they used to do Days out with Thomas events, so it felt special to revisit this line and have those memories be brought back.
We had a special locomotive pulling the trains on the railway this week, which was the sole surviving 563 locomotive from the LSWR T3 Class built by William Adams between 1892 and 1893. 20 examples of the class were built, with most of them lasting until being scrapped in the early 1930s, while 563 was one of the last few left in service when initially withdrawn in 1939, but was then brought back into service to help with the countries efforts for World War 2.
After then being finally withdrawn at the end of the war in 1945, the locomotive then spent many years being on display in several locations such as the British Transport Museum, the National Railway Museum and the Locomotion Shildon Museum, before in 2017 finally being bought for use in preservation by the Swanage Railway, after which it then underwent an overhaul for 6 years, which proved successful and saw the locomotive finally return to steaming in operation in October 2023.
