Dragons can have as many legs as they want, IMO. My problem with the majority of Lego dragons are that the wings are always too small and the tail is always too short. The tails should be at least as long as the body (not counting ornaments on the end of the tails) in most cases, otherwise the creature just looks unbalanced. Sometimes it makes sense to have a short tail, but they'd be the rare exception.
I think the tail just needs to be as long as the neck to head region to look full and balanced, so in this case just 1 or 2 more joint units are needed.
While I'm glad they're staying, I cant say my worries about their CORE issue are any lower than they were back in like, bionicle days. Doesn't help that the ones here are golden aka the most infamously brittle kind of plastic out there (transformers anyone)
The only thing I don't like is the mismatch between the bulbous jaw and the thin neck. Generally I would also prefer cloth wings, but in this case ice wings make sense. It's a great set and I will surely add it to my modern dragon collection.
I'm glad Lego still keeps the ball and socket. It seems that since Mixel unlocked the brick system ball and socket, Lego left the technic ball and sockets behind. I'm sad about the head pieces. Lego did some amazing brick built dragon heads. Going back to the molded pieces even as ornately done here feels like a step back.
I'd like to see more builds mix brick built with the alternative. Like molded top jaw and brick built lower jaw on a dragon head, or vinyl as gap filler on brick built wings
Well Lego does a lot of specialised pieces now, whereas the brick built heads feel more like classic Lego. It’s all down to preference, I personally like both, specialised ones look more clean and modern while the brick built built ones are less restricted but can sometimes look odd.
I actually found this current generation of dragons to be my favorite yet. The molded heads feel classic and add a lot more personality to the dragons via intricate detailing.
Comparing Lego today to Lego 10-20 years ago just feels like every time they've taken one step forward, they've taken one step back somewhere else. Designs and piece variety have got so much better yet they still rely on massive pre-molded parts and stickers instead of prints, with minifigs rarely having more printing than they did 10 years ago
My brother wants this set sooooo much...... and after your fantastic review I can see why. Also a belated congratulations on over 100k on your review channel.
tbh, things like the odd head and small wings/tail are what makes me like this set so much. core as a whole has been such a breathe of fresh air, I hope this sub-theme is kept around for at least a few more years.
Without price in mind, which set would you say is better between this and the Golden Dragon from last year? I'm looking for a Standalone set piece, and I think both are good. I like the Zane set because the Ice Dragon from back in 2011 was my first set of Ninjago, and I really like the aesthetic of the gold dragon along with it having all the ninja.
While design wise they are both equally cool imo, I'd recommend getting this one since it is cheaper. Unlike most people tho, I do not think that the golden ultra dragon is overpriced since it has a ton of minifigures (including all the ninja), is almost entirely gold which is more expensive to make than other colors, has 4 molded heads, and also taking into consideration inflation. It just comes down to personal preference but overall this one has a more finished look (especially with the wings) so if I had to recommend one I'd say get this one
All in all with the main show for ninjago more than likely over with at this point. These new sets not being tied to the show I have not been in any way shape or form really excited for, but I do have to say I think of all the new sets this one is definitely the best and after seeing your excellent review of it it really does look like a great set. I'm not sure if I'll decide on this one for me. Really and truly the only things I would ever want from this wave would be those bone medieval mini figures and those amazing bone weapons. But again thanks for the in depth and professional review as always keep up the great work.
Well no the show’s not over, in fact it was confirmed months ago that more seasons will come, just under a different title. I’m surprised that so many fans think that Ninjago is over, Lego (or anyone else) never actually said anything like that.
Looks like the middle legs are a little short but for a dragon collection this is very nice. => It's always nice to see those kinds of (your) reviews, even after having the set ! I appreciate the work here. Thanks you very much for your videos.
At that size (and price), to not have a better range of motion on the wings is disappointing, otherwise, it looks great. And having a B model it also a nice plus.
I am not realy a big Ninja dragon/flying-beast-thing fan BUT... i think this set is awsome!! Realy good collor matcht, design and minifigures. 👍👍👍 Thanks fo r this reviuw Jang.
This looks even better than the pictures we saw. I'm thinking of picking this up when it's on sale. Six legs, beautiful colours, and i really like that head! It reminds me of the Crystal King from Power Miners with the dual mould. The bipedal "creature" on the other hand... Absolutely not interested in that one. The Dragon is where it's at. And the price itself feels rather nice but ever since the Bone Dragon i feel like i've been spoiled because that was maybe the best Dragon in Lego form ever made and also one of the best deals in existence for me.
This is a cool set! I do think the creature has a little too much visual texture. It has a "moc" feel to it (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just different).
This looks cool and I don't mean to be negative, but how many dragons does Lego need to make? I see so many of these that are just "Mr. Johnson's Spice Dragon" and it's like Lego this is the 30th time you've shown a dragon to the class.
Hey Jang, I’d probably often buy sets through your links if you add one for amazon Germany. Maybe it would make sense for you if you have enough viewers from Germany
What's the point of using TWO ball joints for each wing, when all it does is turn it into a vertical hinge, removing the universality of the ball joint?
What bugs me with this dragon is how the upper teeth are not the same color as the lower teeth. It just doesn't make sense in my head. I bet if this model will ever appear in the animated show, the animators will make the teeth a single color.
This set suffers in the same way a lot of Ninjago has recently, it looks awesome from a distance, but the more you zoom in, the more you realize there's nothing else to see. Barely any useable poseability, no action features, and pretty much the same ninja designs as the last few years. It's just a nice looking statue, and more expensive than it used to be. (everything is, but it's still worth mentioning.)

yes, the wings should be more like up to half the body mass to be able to carry it into the air

That Zane put in a seat for Pixal is pretty amazing.
Six legs make it seem more fresh and original I think. If only they hadn’t messed up the wings again

I never thought I'd see black notched axels in an official lego set ever again
My brother wants this set sooooo much...... and after your fantastic review I can see why.

The new Pixal hair piece is amazing, goes great with Zane using 76925 from the Queer Eye set.

I love those new Pearl Gold ball socket connectors. They will make for so many interesting Bionicle MOCs!
I'm so torn between this set and the Jay Titan Mech, so I could get the Bionicle promo set.
Advice: titan mech
New ice swords for my bionicle mocs lol
I got this without realizing it had 6 legs haha. A very nice surprise!
Yes LEGO bring back more of the multi builds on the back.
I wonder if it can stand on its hind legs.
With all the cool parts (pun intended) I want more than one of these!

The white beard piece makes this dragon resemble Zim's dad, Thunder, from The Dragon Prince!

This is a chonky beast! Cool design
What? A 2-in-1 set?! From Lego?!?!
In all seriousness, I'd love if you showcased the bipedal creature, it looks super cool!
Thank you for reviewing this set jang!
At that size (and price), to not have a better range of motion on the wings is disappointing, otherwise, it looks great. And having a B model it also a nice plus.
Yayyyyy another ninjago dragonnnn. Whatever will we do without another one?

That (not) Darth Maul made me double-take!
This is a fantastic set especially when you can buy it 20% off on release day! :)
I'm not completely sold on the 6 leg aspect, but I overall do like the set and am probably gonna get it
Great set
This seems like a really good base to make a MOC of Appa from Avatar: the Last Airbender :)
another great ninJANGo review
This is a cool set! I do think the creature has a little too much visual texture. It has a "moc" feel to it (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just different).
Again, when did this counterintuitive trend of giving the best dragons no proper cloth or vinyl wings start? (looking at you, GUD)
Do those light green parts on the skeleton minifigs not glow in the dark? They look like they would
I feel like the mech version could be modified into something really cool. Evangelionesque. The legs look really good
I got this set just so I could get the Bionicle gwp haha
This looks cool and I don't mean to be negative, but how many dragons does Lego need to make? I see so many of these that are just "Mr. Johnson's Spice Dragon" and it's like Lego this is the 30th time you've shown a dragon to the class.
The horns do look a bit odd. Mostly a good dragon tho. The bad guys are great, I want to buy a squad of them.
My nephew doesn't like this dragon because of the 6 legs ;D
What episode is the dragon from? I don’t remember the ninja fighting those people.
i think the head is a lil too small for the rest of the body, but other than that, the build looks great i think
I totally agree about the gorgeous parts. Not sure about the set overall
I really wish the Ninjago dragons had actual tails, instead of the same old blade/sword pieces. Not every dragon needs to have a sword for a tail.
i maintain that the dragon needs a tongue
13:08 and 13:19
Daaaaang, now THAT was COLD.
Huuuh, sorry. I couldn't resist. It was just right there. I know, I know, ICE shouldn't.
EUUUAAGGHH! 😸💦

If it a dragon i will buy it
At-te dragon
What's the point of using TWO ball joints for each wing, when all it does is turn it into a vertical hinge, removing the universality of the ball joint?
The dragon looks great with 4 legs, remove the middle ones and use the spare parts to improve it even further. :D
Didn’t really need the extra legs and could of used bigger wings for the size of this dragon
What bugs me with this dragon is how the upper teeth are not the same color as the lower teeth. It just doesn't make sense in my head. I bet if this model will ever appear in the animated show, the animators will make the teeth a single color.
I want it, but my mum said "It's just stupid toy and it's too expensive, you shouldn't pay so much for crap
" 😭
I've build so many dragonish stuff from Lego and often the legs are the most boring stuff to build.
The additional legs definitely lower my interest 😑

This looks like they had waaay too much leftover budget when designing it. So over-detailed
Goofy ahh dragon
