    Nice work dude. Simple and straight to the point, no talking nonsense for ages and no stupid soundtrack. Thumbs up.

    i would recommend that when you use the solder method that you remove the head and lay the solder front to back,across the piston> checking it the above way will give you measurement error with piston rock! also turning the motor over,even with a kick starter can hurt the rod bearing..molding clay of course is the old way ,but also safe way,solder is great in that you can check its variables across the squish band rotate the motor with the crank !!

    I thought I was an "amateur expert" on small motors, but I've never heard the term "Squish C." before. This was an interesting video. I've sometimes lowered head space on older mopeds, in order to increase compression, by sanding it, by attaching sandpaper to a flat window.

    It affects timing when changing the thickness of the base gasket or shim because the entire cylinder and cylinder head are moved farther or closer from the rotational axis of the crank shaft. Changing the clearance by milling the surface of the head or using a different thickness head gasket the cylinder is not moved and port timing is not altered.

    Also small squish clearance is critical to engine efficiency, as the pressure created mixes the fuel with air and pushes it towards the spark plug. So it is better to run the smallest squish clearance recommended for your intended use. If the engine knocks at that clearance increasing the combustion chamber volume at TDC can eliminate the knock while maintaining the efficiency created by the squish.

    This method also works on 2 stroke dirtbikes.just had my cr 250 done after I had ridden 2 bikes that already had it done and the difference is easily noticable.it only cost me around $100 including new gaskets.

    on my 70cc racing cylinders are there 0.55-0.6mm , but it is not normal and set the squish though it is not a racing cylinder often . when buying a cylinder with a piston and it comes with 1 bottom seal so it should fit , but it comes with several base gaskets must be set for a user manual but it's fine and see the piston does not come for now close to the top. Remember also piston ring gap 0.15mm feeler gauge when buying a new cylinder , also tighten the bolts with a torque wrench by about 1.2 kgm at 70-100cc .
    I have 4 manuals here , TPR 86cc 0.8-1mm , Malossi MHR replica 70cc says nothing about the topic , MHR 70cc 0:55 , Malossi MHR 95cc 0.55mm. two stroke !

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'll have to figure out what can be changed to improve the situation. Thinner gaskets, wrong cylinder, decking the cylinder, modifying the head, piston with a different compression height for a few ideas.

    Can you weld the combustion chamber for more compression

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could weld and machine a combustion chamber to lower the volume and increase compression.

  • @miguelilagan9703
    @miguelilagan9703 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    hi question here, if you remove the head and barel gasket to adjust the squish band, it will increase the height of the piston hence decreasing the squish band right? now, do you need to grind the piston to match the combustion chamber curve? cuz if you increase the piston height it will hit the cylinder head right? thanks in advance!

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to maintain a minimum squish clearance so you don't have piston and head contact at any point. Removing gaskets will narrow squish clearance, the clearance between the head and piston. The squish band is usually referred to as the section of the head that mimics the piston crown angle, along the edges of the combustion chamber. Heads or pistons could be modified for a closer match of those angles, but in most cases for me it hasn't been necessary. Sorry the reply took so long, your comment was marked as spam for some reason.

    very good videos... have a question.. have a scooter 49 cc that start but shut down right away, i put a hose directly from the tank to the carburetor thinking that would be
    the gas regulator, but still the same, the carburetor is seal and have a spark so in your experience what do you think could be the problem and also have good compression.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clean the carburetor.. Use compressed air and carb cleaner in every passage. Make sure the jets are clear. Check float height.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +neftali lopez Check your compression or if you already know the rings are bad, replace them. Before spending the money on rings, you may want to find a service manual and inspect the piston and cylinder as well.

    Does bigger squish clearance cause high compression or small squish clearance?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wider clearance lowers compression. Anything you do that increases the space above the piston at TDC is going to lower compression. I have a video about compression ratio up if you want to learn more about it. Sorry the reply is so late. It was flagged for some reason and I just saw it. th-cam.com/video/87aHTfxatag/w-d-xo.html

    What octane do you think would be necessary for a squish clearance of 0.6mm ?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends more on the compression ratio than the squish clearance.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The angle of the squish band in the head usually matches or is close to the angle of the piston crown, if that's what you are asking. If you mean how much clearance, then often it's 2-3% of stroke.
