Well to be exact, the lore is that the universe IS a videogame (a VR MMORPG specifically) that became real when MC stayed logged in as the servers finally went down. He knows what it is and how everything works cuz he was the strongest player in the game, but the other characters don't know and they're much weaker. It's called Overlord
