    A bad ass truck. That is a 440 Mac V8. Used to drive one just like it. It would out pull any 425 cat that I ran across. That is a bona fide fact.

    My first brand new truck was an 87 Superliner. It had an E9 like that with a Mack 18 and a Spicer 4+4 behind it. Used it for heavy hauling and would walk all over most anything else back then. 72 forward and 16 reverse was almost like theft deterrent:)

    • @bradh7472
      @bradh7472 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      One of our estimators at work, when he was a driver for a company called Press Express, that is what they had for their heavy haul trucks. He said the exact same, they would drive up the hills like nothing when a lot of the others struggled. He also said they never ever had problems with them either because everything was over built. Drivelines were something you would put in a mine truck or something like that, just heavy duty on everything. Apparently it made the difference not being in the shop for broken parts. He also had his own truck as an owner operator and drove them all. The Mack was the favorite out of all of them.

    • @westernstar85
      @westernstar85 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It had a 18 speed and a 4x4 spicer? Or a 4 speed auxiliary behind the 18 speed? Little confused about this.

    • @bradh7472
      @bradh7472 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@westernstar85 Spicer built auxiliary transmissions for specialty applications through the ‘70s and ‘80s that bolted directly to the tail shaft of the main. Looks like a double eagle sleeper.
    I had a 1983 superliner with one on it .
    I had it put on at the factory .
    I still remember then telling me to be there at 5 am and they would install it in one day . So I pulled in there yard early and I thought they lied to me . It looked like no one was there . Not a car or pickup in the parking lot. I drive around back and try a door , it's open and about 30 Amish guys were already there working . HaHa. No cars .

    Porter greetings!🇺🇸 I’ve always liked the old Mack’s & especially those Eagle Sleepers! I looked at a GMC General that had the Eagle sleeper on it years ago & almost bought the truck. It was one sweet looking rig. It didn’t have a motor or tranny in it but the rears had already been gone through. One of those things that, if you look back that you would’ve bought it, a hindsight kinda thing! 😳 Love the old trucks ! This one seemed to be in the wrecked/repair section of the yard. Good stuff! Hope they still use it from time to time or maybe will have it up for sale. 🥰😎✌️

Only truck in thirty years it’s the only truck pulling onto any private scale I had to stick my head out the window to know where I was. Better hope the hood ornament didn’t come off cause it took everything you had to open the hood even opening it at the side. I referred to the hood as a pool table and it made a great place to stretch out and relax on lol

    I started out on a 76 Mack straight dump truck had the 237 Mack with the 2 stick 6 speed. Then I moved up to a 66 Mack ( both R models) same 237 with the Mack Quadraplex ( 5 and 4) tractor and 28 foot dump trailer. It wasn't fast at 2100 RPM it only ran 64 MPH ( in 1978 the maximum speed limit was 55. ) it was a good dependable truck rode rough no power steering. No A/C . Drove the R, RW, ( Superliner) and CH . All good trucks, the CH had a great heating and A/C system
    Were much better trucks than today. The government is responsible for our trucks being so undetectable, the DEF, and Particulate Filters give way too many problems. All in the name to satisfy environmentalists. I realize we need clean air, but the cost to maintain those systems is out crazy expensive.
