I absolutely watch people I don’t always agree with. I am unmarried (wedding in September), have no kids, work full time plus extra, and don’t have religion as a high priority, but love watching your videos because it is RELATABLE in certain ways. On paper, it doesn’t make sense to watch your videos, but in the land of TH-cam, it’s refreshing to listen to ladies with strong values and live their life in a way that is relatable (not focused on materialism, strong family values, always down for an adventure). Every Thursday I always watch your videos while on my lunch break.

Christians actually aren’t religious either.. I’m not religious but I am in a relationship! There’s a huge difference!
The next time a “Christian” talks to you and tells you they are, ask how often they read their Bible bc 9/10 they don’t and those are the false Christians

100% would love to hear more in-depth about Mennonites and money. I grew up in NE Indiana, within miles of Mennonites as well as Amish communities. Many Amish families seemed to own bakeries, cabinetry companies, etc. that we would use/ shop at. But just as most Mennonites "blend in" more than Amish, their businesses weren't as obvious. Do Mennonites usually own businesses like that as opposed to working for larger corporations? Also, do Mennonites refer to others as "English" like Amish people do? Also would love to hear more about different branches (or as you said conferences) of being Mennonite and how/why you decide what church to go to.

I’m also interested in a video about different Mennonite groups. I also grew up with Mennonites in my community & they were definitely more strict than Megan’s sect. My friend had to wear full length skirts and was not allowed to cut her hair and I remember her telling me that she didn’t cover her hair because she wasn’t married (in her church married women covered their hair and married men had beards but single men could not). I always thought all mennonites had the same guidelines 🤷🏻‍♀️

They are wholesome & fun & I love how you honor God, your husband and motherhood. I have unfollowed many people when I realize there is a huge belief difference but not out of judgment. It’s just that I know what’s healthy for my heart & mind. Thanks for putting the good stuff out there ❤️

Important note: therapy and mentorship are not interchangeable. This is important because there have been known cases of people who were not therapists who may have even had good intentions, but didn’t have the tools to create a healthy, professional therapeutic relationship leading to harm to themselves and the person.

When we had our oldest, 11 years ago, we were so poor too. On paper it didn’t work out for me to stay home and so we agreed I would stay home for 6 months (all that our savings would allow) but by Gods grace that 6 months turned to a year and then 11 😂❤️ It’s nice seeing His hand in things!

That's exactly how I feel about it too! I will follow people that I don't agree with especially if there content is something that we have in common! But if there content is all about things that we completely disagree on I probably won't spend a lot of time watching that or follow them 🤷‍♀️ I would not unfollow someone who's content I enjoy and is relevant to me just because they don't vote the same as me or have a different stance then I do on something.

I am an atheist who works full time as a research scientist and although I have been married for a while, I also have no desire for kids or becoming a homemaker. This probably sounds like the definition of someone who would be the least likely to watch your videos but I truly do enjoy them :) I personally believe it’s very important to watch, listen, and empathize with people who have different walks of life and beliefs. Just because we might not agree on some things doesn’t mean we can’t respect each other and be kind. You’d be surprised what people actually have in common in terms of personality, interests, etc if we took the time to get to know one another.
I find your channel to be very refreshing. You’re someone who actually walks in her faith, is humble, kind, empathetic, hardworking, and follows her dreams. You say what you believe and feel in a non condescending way and I truly enjoy listening to you two talk about your lives and faith.
Also, I totally agree that it is unfortunate that doctors use medicine as a fix all rather than looking for the root of the problem. You are your best advocate, so always question everything!
    -Your friendly neighborhood scientist

When my husband and I got married 13 years ago we were also dirt poor after buying our first home. It was so bad at times I would get anxiety about thinking if he would want to talk about finances when he came home. As time went on we were much better off and now I am able to stay home with our 2 kids. In our situation the math never made sense as well as how ends were met and we always had just enough. Looking back I now know it was all God making the ends meet. Whenever we thought we were short something random always managed to come by that met that gap for us which was all God!

edit: 29:25 I follow people of many ideologies, I think our political values would be very different and that's ok... we come to the table with varying reasons for our opinions.

I appreciated bringing awareness to "dirt floor poor." I think many stay-at-home moms insist that others really could live on one income, they are just used to spending too much, etc. But when we had my firstborn, my husband worked full time and I worked part time from home and even still, we barely paid our bills. I used pre-fold cloth diapers for several months because I literally couldn't afford diapers.
I'm now expecting my second child and my husband makes more than double what he made back then and we have more financial freedom. But sometimes it really takes every penny of 2 incomes to make ends meet.

I wasn't trying to stir the pot with my question on your previous video about Target ;)I just genuinely wanted to know and if you knew how much they are actively involved in things that go directly against Christian values with some things/items they are pushing on to children as well as their values. I get that it is hard to avoid all companies with such values but was curious about one in particular that is very blatant that they stand for destruction of good values and morals.
I LOVE this series and love hearing both your opinions, even if some things differ with my own or even align. We don't grow as people keeping ourselves in bubbles.

  • @maddy-zzz

I watch people that have different beliefs all the time! It helps me gain life perspectives I wouldn't otherwise have in my own bubble. Also, I appreciate that even though you share your life convictions, I have never once felt any disdain for others in your tone. I can almost guarantee you and I have different beliefs on some certain social issues, but your channel remains inviting. As an agnostic who has experienced some hurt in faith-based spaces, the way you carry yourself is actually one of a few reasons I've considered exploring religion again!

I so look forward to these videos. I don’t have Instagram, but I’m a follower at heart ❤️ 😂 I follow you on TH-cam because of your differences and open acceptance of each person’s journey. I am a Roman Catholic, but I find more “issues” with some who shares my Faith in their righteousness indignation and judgement of others, than I do EVER in the differences that we may have…. And you hit the nail on the head…. It is what is in the heart as Truth and Love that is the important thing…Not the “looks”. I do agree. Also, it was so fun for me to hear you say what my Grandmother told us, basically, you can live in the world, as it is a gift from God, but “be not of the world”…. It made me smile, that once again, so different..NOT so different. God bless you both! I love these chats! As I listen while I do household chores ❤️🙏🏻

Yes I'd love to hear about your high school and dating years💕. I take several meds for mental health and they make all the difference in my functionality. I've been to counseling too. Since I used to have a counseling business I'd like to say that if it's a chemical imbalance go with meds only. If it's both that and needing to learn skills then go to counseling too. (This is my opinion - not a professional one). 😊😊
I like to wear form fitting pants and loose fitting tops👚. Our Church requires shirts with sleeves and pants or dresses at least to the knees and full coverage in all that area, so makes it easy to decide, but not judge others.
I got married at 20 and had first baby at 27. Was perfect for me 💞. And was stay at home mom except for 2 hours a day I worked in our business while my son was in preschool.
I had 2 miscarriages. The first one happened right before Thanksgiving. My hubby wanted me to tell everyone beforehand so I wouldn't feel bad when others were all excited talking about our baby coming. I absolutely did not want to..I wasn't ready for it to be known yet.
True about Mormons - Leaders want us to use full name The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - being wealthy a lot, but not us and there are others who aren't too of course. But lack of money can be a very good faith builder. (Not that wealthy lack faith 😁).
I'm in hibernation after childbirth🍼- haha
I like to follow those who have similar beliefs, but practically follow none that have my exact Church membership. If there's a lot of bad language I don't like that. But there are many good women out there. You are one of my favorites🎉. Really like both of you!
I like it when people look for the positive, which most do. But some will see someone with a sleeveless shirt and think Oh they're not living the religion. That's not right to be like that even in just a persons mind and they don't say it out loud.
I hope you don't mind my writing a book in the comments. I love commenting, please forgive me ☺.

Without seeing the questions, I can't know, but I get plenty of "political" questions because Anabaptist beliefs are different than some other more well known conservative churches. Some well known conservative churches are hyper political, and they don't agree with views you've stated about birth control, mental health medication, women working, etc.
It's the main reason I'm so excited about your channel, as an opportunity to show other options for conservative theology. People want to understand if they are supporting a message that is focused on threatening their legal human rights.
Thank you so much for the thoughtful and balanced discussion of mental health, and thanks for that hot take on modesty rules!

I follow your channel and have been for some time. I frankly look forward to all of your videos. I do not comment often, hardly ever really.
I must say that I so appreciate you two beautiful ladies for a number of reasons! I appreciate your vulnerability, honesty and candidness. I appreciate your unwavering stance on your beliefs and your open-mindedness that everyone is different, believes different things, and come from different backgrounds. I appreciate that we all can come together to talk about the human condition without judgement or shame but with understanding, compassion and respect for each others views and beliefs. This is a safe and comfortable environment where nobody needs to feel threatened or defend our stance, views or beliefs. We can come to listen and learn from each other and take away nuggets if we choose. I believe that you beautiful ladies could very well be setting the stage/starting something/demonstrating/setting the example of how (ALL) individuals can come together to talk about topics that affect us all (being human) in a honest, open, peaceful and non judgemental or shaming way to share suggestions, perspectives, views and beliefs. It's really a beautiful thing, this is really what community is all about!!!
Thank you for what you do! Thank you allowing us into your space, lives and world. Thank you for allowing us to ask questions to learn and understand that we may not be able to or have an opportunity to anywhere else. With understanding there's less judgement and more peace and unity and I truly believe that's really what each and every one of us really needs and wants! What an amazing community a place of belonging! Thank you! 😊🫂🥰
Quite honestly, if you think about it, you can call this a real honest true ministry!

Thank you for your response! My words are not just words to say, I truly mean what I shared!
Thank you for doing theses episodes, you add so much to them, your a wonderful addition!
I understand that we far too often hear negative things or complaints as you will. I think that it's important to hear the positive things and complements as well. Please know that what you are doing is a blessing for so many needing a wholesome, healthy, safe place to belong and be heard. Being heard in the sense that we are not alone in whatever we are going through or the stage of life we are in but we have someone to hear us in the understanding and giving a voice to those topics. Then following it up with a personal story or a way that it was or could be handled or delt with is HUGE! Please know that this, this what you are accomplishing here means so much to so many and could change everything for someone. Life is not so difficult or lonely! So really thank you for what you do! I encourage you to continue because it's appreciated and needed! 💕

I found your channel right around the time my son was born 2.5 yrs ago and I can't tell you how encouraging it's been as a new mom. I will say that burn out for me has been hard because community is hard to find in our area. We switched churches last summer and while everyone has been super welcoming and sweet, we still haven't found many friends with kids/similar seasons of life.

As someone raised in the Menonite church very young, and lived a conservative life but left the church, your wonderful channel and discussions remind me of the value of the faith and lifestyle and though I am less strict (ex. swear occasionally, read/watch more adult content-as an adult, and do not attend church) you remind me to be better, cease swearing, curtail the more spicy books/movies, and get back to attending church- and I appreciate it. You two ladies set such a great example! I thank you for that and sharing the deep, personal parts of yourselves, faith, culture, parenting etc. Note: the aformentioned sins are my worst as I do not partake of drugs or alcohol and am yet married so all physical interractions remain a mystery. You both make me feel good to be counterculture. To be chaste, stay pure, and follow God even when no one else around me really does (I am in CA and do not live amongst Mennonites- so I am an anomaly!) I just really appreciate your content and please know that I am pricked as are you, and you positively affect others.

Good video! Talking about unfollow or not- it depends on what the stand is about. There are times I’ve unfollowed if it goes against my beliefs if they start really start posting things that bother me too much. I try to follow people that believe more like me.

We have very different backgrounds and views but I enjoy learning about our differences and learning about your culture (and especially food and holidays) I don’t agree with everything you say, but I think the only reason I would ever unfollow someone is if they were sharing views I found offensive. Racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. I am staunchly pro choice (in the minority of your viewers I’m sure) and I appreciate you sharing your beliefs on that matter and how you choose to live your life without preaching that others are wrong and everyone should believe like you do. I do find many pro life people to be offensive and hateful to women so I do appreciate that you are not!

Do I unfollow people who don’t have the same views as me? No. If we only follow people who agree with us and read the type of news that supports our ideas we’re very quickly get ourselves in an echo chamber. It’s a very dangerous place to be when you only surround yourselves with those who think alike!

No, I don't unfollow people for their beliefs. I follow them because I am interested in them and what they stand for. I admire the fact that you keep politics out of it. I don't unfollow other mennonites who will bring politics into it but will fast forward through those sections. As for your religion, I like the fact that you believe in your religion/lifestyle. It is refreshing.

Ohhhh such a deep question Megan on following people with different views! Myself I’d have to say it’s tough...I really enjoy watching Christian based clogs and such but do follow others for different reasons etc. I was just having this talk in my head with myself the other day on a forager I follow who is funny and so knowledgeable and then she started ranting about the Roe vs. Wade and it made my stomach utz a bit because I believe differently then her. I’m still following her atm because mostly her content is excellent! It would be hard to have a teaching type channel without ‘you’ coming through! If people don’t like something because it’s from to Godly of a viewpoint then I’d say they definitely are feeling convicted and don’t even know it! Keep up the good work ladies ❤️.

Totally agree, that what is right for one family is not always right for another when it comes to school... and yeah, there are things they might miss out on, with one opportunity or the other, but no matter where your child goes to school they won't have access to every single experience out there, and you are totally right that you just have to do what is best for your individual family.
However, I would have to respectfully disagree, when you say that most homeschoolers who are doing it is because they have no other choice. A lot of us do it because we want to, and we love it, even though there are other options available, or because we feel called to do it.

    • @jaynaburkholder1507
      @jaynaburkholder1507 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I definitely dont think most homeschoolers do it because they don't have a choice. Just that I personally wouldn't do it with the current options available to me.
People have all kinds of different reasons for their schooling choices.
      Thanks so much for watching!

I am a Christian.I am a Southern Baptist to be exact, and I would absolutely love to know the fundamental differences you spoke of at the end between your beliefs and mine. From all I’ve ever watched and gathered from you our beliefs seem to align mostly. Of course I don’t wear a head covering and I do wear pants. (As a child, I wasn’t allowed to do that!) But I’m interested in the core belief differences if you ever felt led to share!
Thanks! And I love these videos you’ve been doing with Jayna!

      @justjennifer8448 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Also, I do somewhat only follow people I feel are mostly aligned with my beliefs because I feel like I need to guard my heart. But there are many things that are “just ones opinion” and you can easily just agree to disagree on many things. But I don’t follow or rather spend time listening to anyone who is blatantly opposite of my beliefs or brings me into spending time or thoughts that are not uplifting. This of course, is only my opinion.

    Regarding the follow/unfollow question:
I don't follow all that many channels, but there was a person I've unfollowed due to the whole "defund the police" thing... That person was very supportive of it, and even if maybe being from another country doesn't give me the right to have an opinion I still disliked that vehemence (if this is an english word) ...so the decision to unfollow was very easy... Either than that, I think each of us should be able to decide what content we follow, what is constructive or not, for us, without having to explain ourselves. And this also applies to content creators; sometimes I, as a viewer, get tired of how many disclaimers some people feel the need to make...

I love this series! I am a homeschool mom, who has had children in public school during different seasons because it was what best worked for our family. I appreciate that you can say you wouldn't homeschool because it isn't the best option for you. I think doing what is best for your family by following what God has spoken to you is vastly more important that what type of school your child attends. Can't wait for the next episode!
