The Sixteen Terabyte* File Server

- (Filmed Oct 2023) The most insane budget file server gets an upgrade. Every file you've ever created, saved or downloaded, at the click of the mouse (on Everything Search). The 16 (erm ackshually its 14TB due to formatting and less due to proper raid setup) File Server.
Since the windows search sucks, I ALWAYS use a search program called "Everything", which pre-indexes the entirety of all your drives for instant searching. You can download it here: www.voidtools.com/

This video feels like its from 2013 :) Amazing video and you have earned a sub!
Quite refreshing to see a genuine classic style video in a sea of people trying to out-do each other from a technical production standpoint!
this video is liquid nostalgia
I thoroughly enjoyed this video, amazingly entertaining and useful! :D
Thanks! Maybe don't do a raid 0 tho l o l

… I’m gonna be that guy… “mini ITX”
Oops, ah well. Thanks, That Guy
this vid and the camera angles remind me of druaga1 so much, pretty good video :33
i havent heard the soundtrack at 14:14 since a really old general sam video! great stuff love this man
you are blowing up rn.
hey mate! great content u have, hope u doing well. I was viewing your website (soo cool btw) and in the photography section I saw some cool photos. Can I please use one of these for my Ubuntu MATE install?
Yeah of course! Thanks for checking out my site too
This is so retro, I love it.
Cool project :)
Better idea could be setting it as 2x4TB + 2x4TB in second NAS as backup.
Great thumbnail art dude!
To be honest, I also recorded and downloaded a lot but mostly never watch them even once.
5:38 or install extension called Folder Size. Unfortunately it works only with 2k or XP in explorer window, for Vista+ displays a little window near main window... but still is good
Thank you! I still use xp often so that will be nice but the popup window for Win7 is good to have!
seems legit, reminds me my old old videos. did you mark ecc server memory as bad bc they didnt work on normal motherboard or they are bad like broken ?
I haven't gotten around to testing those 2 sticks in another motherboard but it's my guess as to why I got the mobo so cheap? The seller might've heard the beeps and assumed it was broken and sold it as "untested". Just my guess tho.
This reminds me of drugal1 and seems like it came from 2008/2010 lol
windirstat for a easy to use space measuring lightweight software, or treesize, a more modern version of windirstat
Oh, thanks! I'll definitely start using those. I.Disk works but it's pretty clunky and really slow (it took about 10 minutes to run here)
goto 2.5 gbe and use arrays and linux for way better performance at negligible costs - yes i am saying double the performance for cheap even with old hw
That's not a lot of CDs / DVDs. I have two book cases full.
I dont really use optical media that much anymore so those were just the ones I had with me at the time. the rest are in the crawlspace but I was too lazy to get them out for 5 seconds of video.
Hellya bandwidth limit exceeded on your website.
There was an incident. (the incident being im so awesome they shutdown my site until the end of the month)
@@tentimesfriday sounds like a epic gamer moment
yeah that is colossally stupid.
You may have "backups" but how often do you sync changes from the raid array to the small discs?
Unless you do this every day you will lose something.
It's better to have a 12TB with fault tolerance than 16TB without.
I used to screw around with half solutions until I lost an important project. I've run a raid server ever since.
I have one raid array that is 10 years old. I've changed out every drive in it due to failure. But lost NO data. Didn't have to dick around with backing up to bare drives either.
Fair enough, I originally set this up in 2022 when I got the drives with no prior research (my original thought was that I would somehow end up actually using 16 tb for some reason). I usually back up during important projects otherwise just every week or so. I'll redo the raid setup later but for now thanks for your input.
why are so many people inspired by druaga1?
cause he's awesome but doesnt upload anymore and i hate boring computers
You made me ask how old is this video,
this was filmed in October 2023 and edited in Feb 2024
@@tentimesfriday lol old windows old PC old screen, only thing that didn't exist back then was the 4 and 2 terabyte hard drives, I remember back then I was still on a 80 gig hard drive dreaming of one day having a 500gig
@@webbster64B yea lol I'm staying on windows 7 until software support is dead, then i'll finally go to linux full time. The Dell system has been upgraded lots over the years, it has an Asus H81M-C motherboard and Core i5 CPU but I've been using it since it was a Pentium 4 w/ Windows XP also w/ 80gb hdd. Im glad storage is cheap now, I get many 500GB/1TB hard drives by scavenging recycling bins for television DVRs

Horrible background music, I'd rather listen to the fans from your NAS ;)
Btw; You shouldn't touch the connectors on the DIMM's, static electricity DO damage them that way !
GRRAHHH chiptune music is awesome!!!!!
Also I don't have an esd strap but I do ground myself on my computer's power supply before moving ram sticks around, no issues yet but thank you for your concern
