early Kamen Rider was a master of making an entrance, be it popping in through a window to snatch what a shocker mook's got in his hand, popping out of a coffin, or getting a full intro from the announcer at a wrestling event
and of course, "DAMN YOU V3"

I think the fact that Kamen Rider may be hard to watch for those unfamiliar with the franchise still pretty much is a thing for today. Not that it’s a bad thing, in fact I view it as a good thing; but they’re just so different to any other media out there. Kamen Rider is a lot like The Incredible Hulk. An otherwise normal person is transformed into a monster, but tries his hardest to still be a good person. He feels isolated from the rest of society, and some people may be initially horrified by his deformity, but he gradually builds new connections that give him strength more than his new powers ever could.
Also, Sasaki Takeshi aka Hayato Ichimonji aka Rider Nigo is the true unsung hero of the entire franchise, and we can thank him for birthing the henshin sequence.

There's a bit missing about Kamen Rider's creation that I thought I'd share. There's a manga called The Men Who Made Kamen Rider that's a non-fiction manga made by Kenichi Muraeda and Oda Katsumi that details the story of how the original Kamen Rider television show was made and the story behind the men who created and worked on it such as Shotaro Ishinomori and Toei Producer Tohru Hirayama.
From what I could gleem from from others that I have found talk it about online, Toru was appointed as Producer for a work order to create a new SF/Fantasy series called “Maskman K” for the Execs and he needed a designer so he sought out Ishinomori who was already a big name thanks to the success of Cyborg 009 and had a very busy schedule. In the first 30 minute meeting Ishinomori sketched up a hero design called Crossfire based on the pitch that Tohru loved and showed the Execs who also loved it. But Ishinomori would call back later saying he was having second thoughts saying it didn't feel right and reworked it a few more times. These designs included stuff like a lion themed hero with the fire Kanji on his forehead felt these ones were too safe and wanted something his own and showed Hirayama a modified Skull Man he did for Tv. But while Hirayama loved it, the Execs didn't and while he tried to convince them by pointing to Golden Bat, the Toei execs just thought it was too risky.
Toru tired to shop around to get approval from networks but it just was not happening. So Ishinomori decided to keep trying but rework the concept and tone down the stuff that the execs didn’t like eventually landing on the iconic grasshopper inspired look that endures to this day.

I have a bit of a theory regarding the situation with the introduction of Ichimonji. Given what happened BTS with Hongos actor getting injured from a stunt gone wrong, they were pressed for time and scrambled to make adjustments. The addition of that special agent character I'm guessing he was basically given all of Hongos lines, I think. Anyway, I think ichimonji was always meant to be part of the show, but further down the line. It's possible Ichimonji was meant to be an evil Rider that does battle against Hongo for several episodes before Hongo manages to break his conditioning and they become allies. But the injury of Hongos actor necessitated bring Ichimonji forward sooner, hence why him being rescued and freed from Shocker was all done offscreen. It's just speculation on my part as I have no evidence to back it up, but that's just what I think was intended to happen.

Been a Kamen Rider fan since Ryuki came out.
I should consider myself extremely lucky to somehow acquire a bootleg CD of that Hitler's treasure episode, it's absolutely legendary lmao
Starting off with a heavily experimental production, the franchise found it's root at being extra just for the sake of being extra, while proudly telling self-indulgent grim tales.
Recent installments being more CGI heavy and with all the loud and gaudy toys still somewhat carries on that spirit, although not quite as endearing as a micro-budget 70's TV show can be.

I just recently got into Kamen Rider and so I wanted to go back and see where it came from. Needless to say I started watching the original 1971 series and boy does it not disappoint. Yes the special effects are dated but the original show has a ton of personality and heart. Upon my first viewing of the original series, I had no idea it’s subject matter and tone were going to be as dark and adult in theme. With that being said, I absolutely loved all of the amazing action, fight scenes, and the over the top campy villains. There’s just something special about the first Kamen Rider show that I can’t quite put my finger on. Regardless, I’m a certified fan of the franchise and since I started watching the original series I also took the time to watch Kamen Rider the First and Kamen Rider the Next. Both films retold an updated version of the origin story all the while giving us something we haven’t seen before. Still being new to the character, concept, and overall franchise, I have to say that there’s so much to like, see, and unpack while navigating through all of the different iterations of the character. I remember when I first watched Kamen Rider I was young and randomly going through the channels and accidentily found the Kamen Rider Den-o: I'm Born! Movie. I was so captivated by it even though I did not understand what the characters were saying nor the context but I fell in love all the same. I'm still a fan of the series both good and bad it has this charm that does not go away even as I grow older.

I recently watched episode 6 of Ultraseven, and it was basically,
"Hey, we're about to tell a story about mankind having to commit genocide against another race over a misunderstanding in order to save itself in about 25 minutes, are you sure we can do justice to this intricate and crushing moral dilemma in under 25 minutes?"
    "Eh -- we'll wing it!"
Everyone except Dan is just kind of like, "Oh well! They didn't pick up the phone!"
The one alien who's left over tries to destroy the Earth so Ultraseven stops them and they run off into hiding.
The episode ends with Dan hoping to see the alien again someday with a smile on his face like he didn't just watch billions of people die in the cold vacuum of space or narrowly prevent a bomb from drilling it's way into the Earth's core to destroy the planet earlier that day.
I don't hate the episode, I understand what it was trying to do, and I'm much happier that they bit off more than they could chew with a plotline like this one instead of being too conservative -- but at the same time it sets the tone for what I'll be expecting from classic tokusatsu from now on.

Kamen Rider was the last of the big three TV tokusatsu franchises I delved into, having been a fan of the Ultra series for years (as a result of my love for Godzilla & giant monster movies) and dabbling in Super Sentai after the original Japanese versions of the Heisei shows started getting US releases. But Rider has quickly become my favorite, due in large part to the charm, insanity, and creativity of the original run. It's a dark, delirious masterpiece that never fails to entertain. And Takeshi Hongo is pretty much the perfect hero.

ALL the sound was dubbed in those days. Every word of dialgoue, all the sound effects, everything because they didn't use sound cameras. And after the first few epiosdes it was a stuntman in that Kamenr Rider custome, in fact same guy did Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider V3, Kamen Rider X, Kamen Rider Amazon, Kamen Rider Stronger, Skyrider, Kamen Rider Super-1. And then in the ZX special he played the monster's human form. Of course when more than one Kamen Rider in a scene they had extra stuntmen but the main Rider was the same guy in each series.

Ah, the coffin episode. Where Hongo is behind Shocker, who have two of his friends, somehow gets to their secret destination ahead of them, uncovers the secret treasure coffin, dumps the treasure somewhere, puts himself into the coffin, reburies himself while STILL in the coffin, and makes sure it doesn't look recently disturbed, again still in the coffin.
Or as one video puts it, the best ambush in history.

I just finished the original series for the first time, and it roped me in more than I expected. The Ultraman influence is strong, but the original concepts it brought to the table still can be felt today, (like the magical girl transformations etc that you mentioned.) While it was an "all ages" series, kids to adults have loved it ever since, (including the adult otaku community.) 😎

I don't think I would last long in Japan if I were in the original Kamen Rider series. It's all because of SHOCKER - they seem to be everywhere and nowhere is safe. The way they infiltrate Japanese society in the show is just ridiculous and a bit too much, with their silly henchmen and Kaijin causing chaos. Even where the Kamen Rider is, it's not safe. I could be taken out by a bi-weekly SHOCKER terrorist attack at any moment, so Japan (Kamen Rider) is definitely not a safe place to be. (Can somebody reply)

Only recently hopped on Rider shows and really toku at large (not counting Godzilla which I'd had already seen plenty of) starting with Kamen Rider Build which I think was the last heisei era show(?) and I've been in love with the franchise ever since. It's so goofy and out there but full of character and heart that it's hard to write off. Still haven't finished the OG since I was already juggling 3 other KR shows at the time but I definitely liked what I saw in both a "so goofy it's fun" and genuine artistic appreciation sorta way.

So, I first got into Kamen Rider around a year ago, my friend wanted me to watch some episodes with him on discord, and honestly speaking I literally did not care, I thought it was going to be just japanese power rangers like Super Sentai... Boy how wrong I was, my first Kamen Rider was Gaim, and it did not let down, seeing Kouta's whole arc from a carefree teenager that does dance competitions to a god that controls helheim and found a whole planet for it to live was just really good, I loved Baron's and Micchi's storylines too, the suits were cool and the effects were awesome, plus the humor and faces Kouta makes were always funny to me, I was not prepared for what awaited me, Build was next and I thought, "Oh, I got so engaged with Gaim's characters, how could I possibly like the new ones in Build?" The first moment Sento appeared on screen, I was already in love with him. Banjou, Kazumin and Gentoku were the funniest characters and all had their own badass moments, It's actually the first time in a while I cried over a fictional character, both Kazumin's last party and Gentoku's final stand against Evolto were the greatest things I saw.
Then we watched Double and immediately fell in love with Philip and Shotaro, While I didn't like Terui that much I loved how serious he was in a show where most of the time, comedy is the main topic following along a good storyline, Drive was my second favorite, the humor, the talking belt-san and enemies were good, Heart is a character I couldn't bring myself to hate, Brain was a mix, I loved and Hated him at the same time, Medic.... We don't talk about her, I hated her and actually felt happy when she died, though I must admit, it was a cool scene with Tridoron Overdrive and Ultimate Heart fighting against Banno's machine. Speaking of Banno, a really hateable and well written villain with a good implementation to the storyline. Mach and Chase were funny in their own right, Mach being the absolute obnoxious idiot, yet somehow one step ahead and Chase being a cold but just enemy at first and then becoming in my opinion, one of the best characters in the show was a surprise to me, I felt bad for his death and how it affected Gou's character, plus knowing Roidmude couldn't be remade almost made me cry, but he didn't die in vain as with his signal bike he helped Gou defeat his father.
Currently halfway through Zi-O and thinking of watching Revice, Kabuto, Decade, Ex-Aid, Wizard and Fourze, though I don't know who to start with first.
