  • Red Hood is one of the most beloved characters by many people in the DC universe. His dark and edgy characterization naturally makes him a fan favourite. Although, there are some that wish Jason Todd was never resurrected in the first place. Here are some unpopular opinions on Red Hood!

I would love to see a Red Hood who longs to be a part of the Bat-Family but can’t quite let go of his ruthless morals. In turn, he is the Leader of the Suicide Squad when Rick Flag either retires or dies. He’s just as crazy and bloodthirsty as the villains he works with WITHOUT jeopardizing his relationships with his family/friends. He keeps killing, he keeps his morals, hes still a “villain”, he can still have chemistry with both new and old DC foes, and can still have his family dynamic! Thoughts or opinions would be great :)

I like it! You could dig into the idea of whether it's in his ingrained nature to kill or if he actually loves it and doesn't want to admit it.

I think the thing I love the most about Jason is just his relationship with Bruce. His character is at his best when he is struggling internally between his love for Bruce as a father and the longing to mend their relationship, but at the same time having strong resolve that he believes he’s doing the right thing. Wether you like it or not, Jason is one of the most important people to Bruce, he’s his first actual son, he adopted Dick later I think but his first son was Jason, and then having Jason die that impacted Bruce on a much deeper level then I think people realize. They wonder why Bruce lets Jason keep doing things instead of bringing him in, and it’s because that’s his boy, he knows Jason heart is in the right place even though they disagree on the way to do it.
Not only that but I also hate how people make Dick untouchable. In my mind Jason and Dick have always been comparable in their abilities, it was never about who was more skilled they both are equally skilled, but Jason is more ruthless and aggressive while Dick is much more elegant in his fighting because of his acrobatics. But so many times I see people just make it seem like it would be a wash and Dick would beat Jason. It doesn’t make much sense to me.
One thing I always wanted to see would be Jason Truly leading a team of some sorts, like a teen titans type situation of anti-heros and young kids, almost like Suicide Squad meets Young Justice. He’s more mature then people give him credit for they act like he’s a baby with a child’s mentality, but that’s not the case. He’s probably the most in touch with Gotham then anyone in the bar family, he knows first hand what it is to be in that city. Bruce obviously cares but I don’t think he could ever empathize with the citizens of Gotham like Jason can, and so Jason actually cares too much, which is why he kills because he really thinks it the best way to help the people. And I feel like living in the streets like that, having to care for himself, I think he is maybe the most mature out of all of them. He’s emotional yeah, but it’s not like he’s naïve, He knows exactly what he’s talking about.

When I was little and started reading comics Jason was Robin. Dick was still sort of then too . But he was off in the Teen Titans. So I always see Jason as my Robin. I loved him. I was 14 when they did the phone vote. It was a 900 number. I ran up a near 500 dollar phone bill. Which is a lot to me now, so imagine what my parents did over that. I am 51 now and pretty sure I am still paying for that in treatment. I was happy to take that punishment for Jason to stay. It actually cried hard , ugly cried over Jason . As back then I was not yet used to any one coming back. I hated Tim for a very long time because they brought him in really fast. Too soon for me. I was so very happy to have Jason back in any way whatsoever. I also relate a lot to his feelings and being broken. Obviously not the way he is, but he is the most real character to me. So I have and will always love Jason Todd. He isn't the other Robins. Not at all. That is what I love about him. Honestly I see him as being Bruce from the other side of the tracks. He is the best character.

@@mikederdrache3305 I did feel sad about the people that voted him dead. I did not understand why. The cheater guy that did that I did not know about until many years later. We did not have the internet when he was killed. I did feel some hardcore dislike for him. 72 votes I see was the difference. That was hard. The worst though honestly was Tim Drake came in really fast and was so different than Jason Todd. I just felt like he was killed just to be replaced, and it was hard . I for that reason took decades to get to like Tim.

I thought Jason should have stayed dead as well not because I don't like Redhood, I haven't read or seen anything of the character outside of *_Under the Redhood_* and I liked *that*, but because his death was such a huge deal to the Batman, one of the biggest failures of his entire career.
It's true tho, no comicbook character remains dead.
I *_do_* really like the comment of him being DC's *_Punisher_* to Batman's *_"Daredevil"._*
I also really like the idea of him being Terry's Deathstroke, that would be sick.
I guess I really need to read up on Redhood.
    Loved the video. V Insightful

Glad you enjoyed the video! And ya with Jason staying dead, Batman would have no way to rectify that situation. Even if he were to find a way to forgive himself he would always hold a piece of faliure within. With Jason coming back, Red Hood is of course really cool but there is an idea of "Oh... Jason is alive, I can atone for not saving him." Second chances are great but seeing a character like Batman who is always seen defying drastic odds yet not capable of fixing a mistake of getting a boy killed by a psychotic clown is a powerful growth to the character.

My hot take is that I didn't care for the character at all until I played Gotham Knights. I thought his Bat-Anakin routine was lame. The "does he doesn't he" schtick on whether he would reform or keep killing people could end in 3 ways: He stays a Punisher character, which would continue to tempt writers into the same "will he won't he", he becomes the next Joker after Joker is killed somehow, which would never happen because Joker is a cash cow, or - in a path that I hadn't really considered for him until Gotham Knights - he becomes reformed.I like to think that if anyone takes up being Batman in that universe, it should be Jason. If you pay attention to the details in the belfry conversations and other sources in-game, Jason is angry but working hard to be a better man, technically still dead to the system, and Dick was told not to be Batman by Bruce. If you consider that Tim is too young and Dick doesn't want to be Batman in most versions anyway, then a Jason who has already agreed not to kill is a great candidate for becoming Batman. He wouldn't even be the only version of Batman that uses guns. He would have no real identity, Jason is the biggest and gruffest of the bunch, and if you look at Batman through Bruce and Terry... Batman was always a tool to make a dark soul lighter in a sense. He already wears a Bat on his chest, I say let him *be* the Bat.

I personally think Red Hood should be very close in skill level to Batman and Nightwing (I say those two because those two have been stated to be equals in physicality and fighting skill multiple times). I say this because Jason Todd was trained by Batman like the other Robins, and then went on to be trained by the worlds top killers, League of Assassins, and the All-Caste. Jason Todd is also notably a big guy. Jason's stats are 6'0 and 225lbs compared to Bruce who is 6'2 and 210lbs which puts Jason as an all around larger guy than Bruce (typically 1-inch of height can be contributed to 5-7 pounds) meaning if Jason were 6'2 he'd nearly have 30lbs of lean muscle on Batman considering how lean he's shown to be.
When you put that all together Jason can be somewhat assumed to be a bit physically stronger than Bruce himself. Jason Todd's size, acrobatics, training and many more factors should easily put him on par with Batman and Nightwing. And not to mention some iterations of Jason give him super-human strength from the Lazarus pit.
That was a bit of a ramble but I feel like DC needs to address this, as they always show him being toyed with or being the "punching bag" of the Batfamily, when they gave him all these traits that should put him leagues above where he currently is.

I think it would be cool if they had a red hood killed the entire DC universe like they do in the Marvel comics
On a sidenote, I think it’s funny on how they wanted to kill off Jason Todd, because he just replaced Dick Grayson, and fans were saying they were too much alike But then when Jason Todd died, they replaced him with Tim Drake

  • @daddyGbaby

I kinda disagree. I think jason todd was the best robin primarily because he actually acted like a kid his age. He had the teenage angst, the identity crisis, and the rebellious impulsiveness nature.
And probably only robin that i felt actually needed batman help to deal with his truama as opposed to the other robins. that batman needs.

Dick is my favourite as a character but Jason is my favourite as Robin. He’s so interesting because you wouldn’t think he could be a Robin. He came from a drug addicted mother and a criminal father along with stealing to survive but I love how he becomes Robin and shows a more human side to the mantle with his immaturity and his cockiness. Look at Under The Red Hood where he spits on Joker and smiles as Joker is about to torture him just to not give him the satisfaction of seeing him in pain. Completely agree with you.

I really want to see Jason and Barbara to have a relationship. It almost happened in Three Jokers but by a stupid coincidence it didn’t work out. They both have shared trauma by the Joker and both of them enjoyed their time as heroes and sidekicks to Batman. Jason is more angry and Barbara is more optimistic but I believe that opposites attract and they can both add to each other’s characters. Jason can bring a more grounded perspective and Barbara can help make Jason more hopeful. I like Dick more with Kori so Jason and Barbara would be really cool.

I have a question that I’ve been trying to figure out for a while now about Red Hood and the bat family in general is why is Batman specifically usually unwilling to kill criminals himself as a superhero but is perfectly willing to team up with heroes who would kill? Wouldn’t that be just a complete conflict of interest at that point?🤔

  • @ROEb0t17

Red hood is my favorite bat family character. I hate how a lot of writers have handled him in the recent yrs. Frankly, I don't think he should be reformed to not kill like batman and some people say, cuz if he does then that takes away a lot of his interesting qualities relative to the rest of the bat family.
If I were a writer for dx, I would follow one of the storylines set up in the under the red hood animated movie and have red hood in current day be neither a hero or villain. I would have him be sort of a crime lord. One that has strict rules to protect the youth and disenfranchised like his younger self was. He also would work with heroes in times of crisis against villains who threaten the safety of said people. He would also work with villains to rob or beat or kill people who oppress others, like helping catwoman kill human traffickers or poison ivy destroy a corp who is destroying the neighborhood with pollutants and corrupt city officials do nothing to stop them. This way truly makes him someone unique in that he could team up with batman one issue and in another be against him.
Also I would stop this punching bag thing some writers have done with him. I would make him firmly on batman's level and he has an advantage because he is willing to kill whereas batman isn't.

I think it's cool that Jason was never meant to be Robin. Dick was a great Robin. Tim was a very good Robin. Now, Damian is trying to fulfill that role of Robin. But Jason was never meant to be, which adds a lot of depth to him; Red Hood is him. He's still broken, but he's expressing his true self now, even if it is more violent, more aggressive, and more bloodthirsty.

  • @blacknwhitestripe

The fandom didn’t like Jason back then because he was too similar to Dick, but they like him now as Red Hood because he’s his own unique character. I wish this was acknowledged within universe- that Jason was really similar to Dick when he started out. It explains why Batman made him Robin in the first place and gives his story more depth.

I personally think less is more. His original ideology in under the red hood worked so why not have him move to a new city (maybe the worst in America now that batman is cleaning up Gotham) and have him be a crime boss. I know it's counter to the superhero genre but let's face it, it would be cool to see this new point of view. We could give him a Jim Gordon equivalent who's trying to catch Jason because he is a criminal but always looking around and seeing the city's crime problem getting under control. That's what I think Anyway.

    • @tyrellmultimedia
      @tyrellmultimedia  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

"Characters don't stay dead" is not entirely or only attributed to Jason Todd though. And whereas the length of his prolonged death could be used as an excuse, they still chose to bring him back which I would argue sparked a lot of constant revivals of characters moving forward. And nowadays I would say that statement holds up pretty well since it's become a common thing throughout the past 20 years.
