Wa2kbz here. Nice to see your blog. Starting in radio very different from 1958. Made tube regen, then 6v6 1 tube xmtr from ARRL, then a Heathkit 5 tube rcvr AR3. Then off to radio row in NYC and an ARC5 on 80. $8: 100 w vfo rig from B17 or B24. CW only except 2m AM on scr522 mil surp. 832 final. Got ssb years later in USAF. Nice group. 73 Karl in FL
10/08/23: Mike K8MRD talking about the PackTenna EFHW led me to visit the PackTenna site again. Eureka!! The EFHW is in stock after seeing it as Sold Out for the past few months. I ended up buying one. 😀
Hehehe ... once the antenna arrives, all I need to do is to buy an HF Rig. 😂 I'm planning on buying an HF Rig in Novemberr during the Thanksgiving sales.
2nd most fun also in Turkey, TA0/WA2KBZ, on island top monastery ( St. George) near Istanbul. See pic on QRZ. Worked 14 countries in an hour. IOTA # AS101 i think. Buyukada Island. 5w , ft817, lw laid over pines. About 3000 ft up. CW mostly. Also on top of ancient fortress tower in Istanbul , Galata tower, on the balcony. No SOTA in FL. Overpass on highway doesnt count😕
Do pota and qrp plus mobile, mostly cw from grid el88. Lots of parks near greek town, Tarpon Springs. Use kx1 and FT817, hb tuner and dipole made from measuring tape from Hygain, or just inv L and gnd. Best time wasbon Agean shore of Turkey to med shore of France, both ends ft827 on cw with 20 m dipoles hung on beach umbrellas. Long live QRP. 73 Karl
A 100w Radio will draw about 20A at 100w Ft8 ....SSB peaks at 100w for fractions of a second. Average power for 100W PEP SSB is about 20W . So Average amps drawn from Battery on 100w SSB would be say 4-5 Amps. Thats about 3.5-4 hours NON stop TX 100w SSB from 16 Ah battery
I am an amateur radio enthusiast from China. I am very happy to meet and follow you. I look forward to communicating with you.
