I got married on Sahale Arm! One of my favorite places in Washington ;) I've used that toilet many times! lol

This was probably top 3 backpacking trips ever for me. That view from Sahale is the best I’ve ever seen. The stars at night were more clear than I have ever seen them. It was as if I had never seen stars before. Every time in my life that it feels like I can see the wonder of the world as if it’s brand new is something I consider such a gift.

Ive really appreciated the tidbits around rules of usage for urine vs defecation at each stop and why. I would love to see this series continue for more locations (states? Countries? Climates?) and see how different places deal with the same issues.

We had an absolute blast in Washington especially over in Rainier. We didn't even plan on going there until you guys gave us the recommendation for the skyline and burrough's trail and so we spent our remaining days in Washington at Rainier. Thanks so much for giving us the local dig on the area, hope you guys get a chance to make it over to Glacier at some point (just try to go off peak season haha). I snowmobiled on a trail in Colorado that had toilets that were amazing but enclosed. The poo stalagmites were all like 50' tall and frozen solid. Still dumbfounded to this day what kind of heavy equipment they had to bring in to dig out these out houses!? I've never seen anything like it before and never again. It was like 200 miles worth of snowmobiling trails way out in the mountains. All the business was frozen solid so the little shack just smelled like an evergreen forest.

How about the toilet at Hidden Lakes Lookout? A gentle stroll from the cabin, wrapped in a spectacular view, especially in the morning! I've been to Sahale as well. It's a little awkward to navigate the moraine, and I still kind of preferred to use the toilet at the Hidden Lakes Lookout. There were a lot less onlookers! I stayed in the cabin, but the old bed was pretty musty!

Gotta say...the toilet at the the Lower Saddle camp ground next to The Grand Teton is one of the most beautiful back country toilets I've ever seen.
You have to bring a wag bag, but its all worth it when you sit on an actual toilet seat and look at that view.

8:58 at 7,520 that’s a very high elevation camp site. The Lunch Counter on Mt. Adams in Washington, but not the North Cascades, is a bit higher at 9350 feet in elevation. I would love to get some trips into the North Cascades.

Hi! I love watching your videos! I'm trying to learn about hiking/backpacking so a lot of the equipment is new to me! So what do the short gaiters do for you? Do they keep stones out of your shoes? Why don't you use netting for the flies and mosquitoes you encounter, are they a bad idea? Your videos are always so entertaining and so informative! I love your sense of humor! I just turned 60 but I love being silly and it is so refreshing to watch you and giggle along with you and your editing (I laughed out loud in part 2 with the flying saucer and the zillow ad🤣)! When I do hike it is so much more fun when you're able to use your imagination to keep your mind occupied and the hike goes so much more quickly! I'm so happy I found your channel! Thank you for being you and being so genuine for us! and yes, I had lots of questions about pooping along the trails and you have helped alleviate so many of my old lady worries! (PS. I have to use a cpap, i have a portable one but the battery is quite heavy, can you do a video with other backpackers that use cpaps and their solutions? my battery is about 4.5# and I've used it for off grid car camping, it's been great! but that's heavy for backpacking I fear. batteries for cpaps can be quite costly do you/or anyone know of any solar options for smaller ones? Thank you again!)

Sahale is my #2 favorite. Using the toilet on the South Saddle of the Grand Teton at sunset was truly a magical experience. When I climbed the Grand back in '86, that toilet would rank 5 in every category. An honorable mention is the toilet at Lake Sally Anne on the PCT north of Steven's Pass. It has a remarkable view of the Stewart Range off in the distance.

I would like to nominate the precarious privy high atop Green Mountain in the North Central Cascades. The view brings in the nearby meadow systems and snowy ridegelines near and far. It's a Mt. Hood Fly Proof toilet that can be schlepped by hand to remote locations in parts and assembled on the spot. Made of cedar - this beauty is built for vista gazing and quiet contemplation, even though marmots find it captivating for all of the wrong reasons.

Maybe hope and get lucky to get a camping permit and hire some gear. I think you saw the same chubby marmut we saw up there lol. By the way, Hidden Lakes Lookout trail is short and unrelenting in it's steepness. Camping opportunities around the cabin are non- existent. I don't know if it qualifies on that technicality. I was there in the 90s, and was lucky that nobody else was there. It remains as one of my favorites of all time. As was Sahale, which was done in September, and the meadows were incredibly colorful.

Deuces of a mini series, but I think the one from number two! Should be sent off to the Smithsonian as an ancient artefact. Except for the nails and screws, I would be afraid to use it. Possibly end up with blood poisoning or something similar. One big problem I see with them is the path to get to them at night or bad weather and especially in the case of an emergency!!! Doing the butt cheek shuffle.😂😂

I have loved this series! What an amazing view from there. If you haven’t been to the toilet at Panorama Point at Mount Rainier (Paradise) you should go! It’s like a hobbit house on the mountain and you can poop in privacy!
    Keep up the good work!

Did you just say you never seen a Marmot before? Good mimic of them eating though. I was wondering when you were going to mention the hike, a killer? 6-miles with lots of elevation gain, absolutely a killer. Wow Miranda now you have seen lots of Marmots in one hike. I had a Marmot visit my jeep while hiking into a high lake here in Colorado, it chewed through my radiator hoses. Luckily, I carry duct tape for a temporary fix. Then my sister told me a way to keep them away was to spray ammonia in the engine compartment. Lots of "Bleeps" Miranda, is that an indication of how much you are "enjoying" this hike? They had goats pushing people's dogs of the mountains in Utah down cliffs or goring them just recently. I was thinking they were probably being protective. And without further doo-doo, the toilet! That is a great view and an amazing toilet. I wonder if it could serve as an emergency shelter except during a lightning storm? Ah, revenge on the Mt. Goats, peeing on their rocks. Well, considering the other toilets, one under reconstruction, the other one splinters, rusty nails, and then there is the exposure. No competition there except for that 6-mile steep climb. Fun video with you usual wonderful comments which we could not doo without any of them.

Question: you seem to sport the gaiters on your ankles, what’s the rationale and/or advantages to them?

So sad! I could see Mt Rainier from that toilet last year.

Once the smoke cleared, we got a little glimpse!! But the smoke was pretty wild.
