Great review. Did you had the chance to hear the Oberon 5? If so is there a big difference between the Oberon and the Opticon? Mainly for watching movie's. Thanks.
@@johnlim7720 Hi John. I know somebody who has the Oberon 5 and I heard them round his house a while back (can't even remember going to people's houses right now with covid!) The Oberons are great performers and they're not fussy at all; better than Zensors for sure. It's not quite on par with the Opticons as the Opticons are more transparent.. but that's to be expected as they're double the price. I'd say with the Oberons you're about 80-90% there. I think much of this comes down to the hybrid tweeter unit they put into the Opticon 6. Those higher frequencies can really transform a sound. You'll hear these nuances with well-recorded acoustic music especially. Now, with movies I'd say go for the Oberons and use the extra money you have saved for a better amplifier or subwoofer (if you're in the market for either of those). I believe you'd save at least a few hundred quid wouldn't you? I don't think the Opticon really shines with movies - at least, they don't shine as brightly as they do compared to music anyway! Hope this helped - any more questions I would be happy to assist!
@@geezerintotech thanks so much for the advice. I was actually thinking of pairing the Oberon 5 with the Opticon Vokal center. Or should I just stick to the Oberon Vokal center?
@@johnlim7720 Hi again John. I guess it all comes down to what price you can get it for. I personally didn't think the Opticon centre was well worth recommending at the retail price of £450 I believe? Personally if you go for the Oberon then I'd go for the matching centre but I'd encourage you to ask the store for a home trial first, because there is no way for you to test these speakers in store! Are walk-in HiFi stores even still open? I would think not surely?
Hello, I have been following your videos for quite a long time and I admit I have become a fanboy of Dali’s speakers. I own a pair of Oberon 3s driven by Marantz SR6015 in HT mode. The question that is hovering my mind was if I go ahead and buy Opticon 6 based LRC for my home theatre powered by 6015 will that be good? I also admit that I auditioned Klipsch RP series HT speakers and they are amazing. I may need your honest opinion if I complete the system with Dali’s will it be awesome or shall I go and get Klipsch setup?
Hello and thank you for trusting me with this! The Opticon LCR will likely be very good - but something tells me they are perhaps overpriced. I don't expect they are a big seller, so companies tend to overprice those sorts of products (large margin, small sales sort of business model). If you demoed the Klipsch speakers, I must ask, did you demo them on your receiver? How long did you demo them for? I would try to do a real-world demo in your home: demo these speakers for a few days with movies with strong effects. Sometimes when you hear a speaker once, the speaker sounds immediately good because it is different. But if you intensively test something for a few days, you realise that you actually don't really like these speakers and you prefer your old ones. That's just how the brain works: sometimes we have to accept that our brains want 'new things' all the time! If after a few days you still like the Klipsch speakers, then I say go for it! Also, please make sure you demo Blu Ray content if you're watching movies. My opinion on Klipsch is a bit mixed - they're a bit too colourful for me in the long run! Fun to listen to for short periods, but after a while my ears need a rest lol! However, I have not heard those particular speakers you mention, so I can't truly comment on their performance. I say demo the speakers and then trust your gut! Last point: If you're very much into movies, then I would also recommend Teufel and M&K. Teufel produce great value THX setups (I have a set and love it). M&K do similar systems to Teufel, but they are much more expensive. But I'm sure both these systems will most likely outperform anything on the market if it's movies you are solely interested in!
Hello mate. Sorry I cannot answer your question with enough clarity. I haven't tried the Opticon LCRs in my house. I did want to buy them and I tried them in the speaker shop, but I just thought they were too expensive for what you get. From what I have heard of LCR speakers in the past, I do think they will be better for movies because the Opticon 6 and Vokal Centre are not the best pair in my opinion. But for music, I don't think the LCRs will be as good as the Opticon 6. Unless you can perfectly integrate the sub with the LCRs it won't even sound close to 2 floorstanders. It's a hard compromise to make. You have to think about how much you do of each e.g. music vs movies. For me, I watch movies more than I listen to music, but at the same time, I am a musician so I appreciate good musicality to the speakers. The solution I have found in recent times is to buy a LCR system for movies + front bookshelves for stereo. I run the stereo bookshelves off a separate amplifier and I use those for music. For LCRs, I can recommend the Teufel THX System 6 line of speakers ( but I would not recommend their subwoofer). I think overall these are some of the best LCRs I have heard at the price range, because of the technologies present in the speaker. I have made 2 reviews on them. Thank you very much mate. I also thought about opticon 5, I don't want to compromise space.. and the options are between those. I will watch your lcr videos again. I started to think in opticon lcr because a friend of mine said he listened to 5 lcr opticon installation with a good sub and he really liked them . He also installed ópticon 8 as front in an other installation at the same house. Thank you
@@orionzey Yeah, I would definitely lean towards LCR setups if your focus is more on movies. To be honest, my speakers mostly get used for movies/TV. Stereo music listening sessions are rare for me nowadays. Opticon 5 could be an option - but you're right..the space is going to be a heck of a lot more. If you go with the LCR Opticons I think you won't go wrong (but the subwoofer quality is really the key element of that setup!). Also, I think the LCR for the front 3 is the main concern. If your room size is small-medium and you often have mutliple people watching movies in one room, my pick is to match those front LCRs with good quality, large, dipole surrounds. I have a video on that topic here: th-cam.com/video/MIPV5V7yC1E/w-d-xo.html Hope you have a good day ✌️
