global economy is collapsing, pipeline wouldn't solve a global economic problem
@ The global economy is not collapsing. There are some issues in the global economy but a huge amount of the issues are centred around, US-China trade negotiations, Brexit and a slow to recover EU economy. Consumer debt is also fairly high in many countries. Yet world gasoline use is rising. Canada should have had pipelines to both coasts years ago. Then we would be well-positioned to become a reliable oil source to many parts of the world. The major reason Canada is losing the foreign investment in the Canadian oil sector is lack of pipelines. If you can't sell and move the oil out why would companies invest? On the brighter side investment in natural gas and LNG facilities is booming in Canada.A forty billion $ commitment for an LNG facility in BC. Another EU backed investment in Nova Scotia to build an LNG plant.

As a US investor we welcome Encana. President Trump is friendly to oil and gas companies unlike the liberal Canadian government who makes Oil & Gas Companies jump through hoops. Letko, Brosseau & Associates Inc., which has a stake of about 4%, will vote against Encana’s plan to relocate to the U.S., the investor said Tuesday in a statement. "We don't have interprovincial trade" because of the Constitution of Canada itself. The idea that Alberta can really be independent within Confederation, given Canada's all-powerful Supreme Court and the constant threat posed by the Ontario/Quebec government in Ottawa is naive at best.
Canada wants political change a system that works for a majority of Canadians and listens to those that are having a hard time. Canada is still good country that needs to reflect on family values, housing low income workers, and un fair realestate markets and jobs for the less skilled. while creating real transitions to green energies and utilizing energy we have that can be cleanly harvested.
Mick − Are you nuts? The whole Canadian economy depends on exports, and as it is, under Trudeau we are flailing. According to data provided by the World Bank, in 2014, oil + gas made up 27.1% of our exports, but by 2017 (the last year for which data is available), it had fallen to 20.1%. This represented a change of $ 44.2 billion USD worth of fuel exports, almost exclusively due to the price differential. Over the same three year period, Canada went from having a trade surplus to a trade deficit of $ 11.8 billion USD, the first time in decades.
Mick Canada is a country that is very dependent economically on resource exports. Commodities like oil, natural gas, grain and fresh food crops, lumber, minerals and metals, the export of electrical power to the US, etc. Canada also needs foreign capital to develop the fossil fuel industry. Frankly, we don't have the capital in Canada to develop the LNG export infrastructure that is in progress in BC and in Nova Scotia. That LNG plant in BC is a 40 billion $ project, it would actually be the largest infrastructure project in Canada's history. That project is being headed by Shell and other international concerns. The Nova Scotia LNG plant much smaller but is being funded by EU money. You have to understand how oil is priced. Oil is the largest traded commodity in the world. It trades 365 days a year and prices fluctuate daily, or even hourly. The interest in Canadian oil is by large international companies. In many cases they want that oil to supply their country or their refining facilities. We don't want to just keep the Canadian oil or natural gas in Canada. We need money to support our economy and employ many Canadians. The reserves in Alberta are the third-largest oil reserves in the world. We also export oil from Newfoundland. There are also producing oil wells in Saskatchewan and Ontario. The major problem in Canada is lack of delivery capacity to get oil from Alberta to shipping points. That would mean pipelines to both of Canada's coasts plus additional pipeline to the US. Canada should actually work toward a goal of energy independence. Actually, that was in Andrew Scheer's and the PC platform. That would be a nation-building goal.
Brett has the solution. Alberta needs to transition from an economy dependent on energy to one that can expand the cannabis industry. A nation of potheads to take us into the next liberal economy.
I heard ( and I don't know for a fact yet ), that the Trudeau money comes from ( or came from ) Champlain oil in Quebec, and that they have a deal with the Saudi's to supply them - a Pipeline would hurt Champlain Oil ( if it still exists under that name ), and if Trudeau is dependent on that entity for his "financial gain", then that is a direct conflict of interest, and he is running this country illegally. Not withstanding, I don't know the actual facts, I'm relating what I have heard only. If anyone has more concrete evidence, I would like to see it posted here for all to see.
Alberta's oil is worth less than $30 a barrel. The oil is too dirty to be used for fuel. There's only a couple of uses for dirty bitumen oil. The markets know that, and Alberta doesn't have the money it used too. Alberta sold out to the chinese and Americans, most of the oil sands and energy sectors in Alberta aren't even owned by Canadians. B.C is afraid that the same chinese oil firms are going to dystroy the land like they did to fort mac. Alberta's had 50+ years to get their shit together and they choose to sell themselves out of their own land. I love Alberta but you had half a century to figure this out. I would of done deals then when they would be cheaper. Same with B.C and their forestry sector. B.C sat on their payouts until they're gone. The only thing different is that a train of wood derail doesn't cost future generations. A derail of oil would kill B.C. But the stats do show that the trains are safer and cleaner. Pipelines leak and it's hard to pin down the leak. Companies also don't report pipe line leaks unless they've been caught. A train derailment is too ovoius to cover up. As a western canadian I do agree that we've gotten short strawed every time since confederation. I guess it's our fault for not killing off the indians like they did back east. We can't get anything done because we've got to please the indians first.
Mr. Wilson, it will never happen in Canada because the politics are very entrenched in the East and they will never give the west what we want. Independence is the only answer!!!
Red or blue, no matter.. it's the same shit period. Conservatives had over 10 years to get pipelines done and not rely on a strong market for money. Oil markets are up and down.. it's the way she goes. So when times are strong and healthy, lets prepare and get some shit done. That never happened so now we get to deal with a weak government that's kinda pathetic in a shit market. If you truly care about alberta and its future.. alberta needs to separate. Conservatives and liberals are not the answer because their about the whole country tilted towards the east for obvious reasons.
the oil boom was eventually going to have an end. Just like manufacturing jobs. Time for us to find new industries. We cant keep digging things out of the ground as our economic salvation. We need a new direction. Capital markets are not the same in canada and the US if you think that you need your head examined.
Yeah, how are you typing on the internet? What are you wearing? What are you using for tranportation? How do you brush your teeth? Spolier alerrrrrt..... Oil. Everything you touch today is made of oil. Better go build your bush hut in the forest and live off the land if you want to make those statements. Sorry, no heat, electricity clothing or any man made goods for you.

Why does BNN have to consistently air this divisive and hateful mouthpiece? There are incredible Canadian business leaders, some with high quality research that would propel the country forward. Brett slyly attacks groups in ways which border illegal behavior.
At least BNN is not funded by 100’s of millions like CBC and CTV from taxpayers to hear a bias political point-of-view. I do agree we have capable Canadian business people but they sure would never stoop to enter the political arena where they would need to purge themselves of all integrity, honesty, and representation the people who elected them. The JWR affair revealed only one person who said truth and honour comes before the political party. I have never been more saddened as a Canadian to see the law and the position of Justice Minister so under mined.

Not HAPPENING. Turd is AGAINST CANADA PERIOD
Wex
Now McKenna is infrastructure minister.
How about those that Brett should be kicked out of Canada?
Who s next?
uncertainty is poison in capital markets......
Brett Wilson is the Christopher Hitchens of the energy sector and entrepreneurship
Pipe it to Churchill. 1200 km . 1/3 the distance to ocean access.
Build heavy oil refinery.
Paul
She is the hottest financial business chick in the world; Brett says some smart shit too
Is it just me or is Brett Wilson looking like Christopher Hitchens?
Brett Wilson is the Christopher Hitches of the energy sector and entrepreneurship.
Jordan Peterson's let himself go.
I NOMINATE Brett Wilson For Prime Minister OF CANADA !!!
We can't get anything done because we've got to please the indians first.
interprovincial trade???
YOU mean Domestic Economy???
it is the ONLY thing YOU might recognize in the Future
They moved to Texas.. Texas is oil.. OIL is Texas..Plus everything is BIGGER IN TEXAS..
All pretty common knowledge to those in the west, but someone has to the hard of thinking in the East.
redomicile?
Gee investment leaving canada, trudeau scratches his empty head,,,,,, more carbon taxes u peons u need to suffer......... true story btw
QUEBEC NEEDS TO SEPARATE. CANADA WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER OFF. ALL OF CANADA WOULD AGREE
Wexit !!!
Mr. Wilson, it will never happen in Canada because the politics are very entrenched in the East and they will never give the west what we want. Independence is the only answer!!!
He should learn French and run in the next election.
shale isn't feasible
Red or blue, no matter.. it's the same shit period. Conservatives had over 10 years to get pipelines done and not rely on a strong market for money. Oil markets are up and down.. it's the way she goes. So when times are strong and healthy, lets prepare and get some shit done. That never happened so now we get to deal with a weak government that's kinda pathetic in a shit market. If you truly care about alberta and its future.. alberta needs to separate. Conservatives and liberals are not the answer because their about the whole country tilted towards the east for obvious reasons.
I wouldn't and dont invest here in Canada.
Just print more money and everyone will be happy, more money to pay taxes and the rest gets put back into the economy duhhh
Canada vs Liberalism.
Anyone else think the thumbnail was an overweight Jordan Peterson?
You wish Wexit was a no show.
the oil boom was eventually going to have an end.
Canada losing all best smartest players
very negative long term
I didn’t listen to a word he said....was staring at the blonde the whole time
If it's one thing I've learned in business don't mess with a good thing if it's it making you money leave it alone but I guess a Drama teacher wouldn't understand that sure is pretty good with the drama though look at the news pretty entertaining
@DAVE ADAM hey i agree with you we need to move oil to more then usa i im just making a point that we had a good thing and then government messed with it now we are looking at the possibility of oil being small playing part of the economy im directly affected by that i live in Edmonton watching people loose there houses and famly being displaced i am service business people are having a hard time paying me so all for change its the question of is it going to happen
@DAVE ADAM Dave I absolutely love everything you said you'd make a fantastic coach if you'd ever like to sit down and have coffee and talk business it would be a pleasure thanks again for the conversation it was inspiring
@DAVE ADAM I like your attitude Dave!
Why does BNN have to consistently air this divisive and hateful mouthpiece? There are incredible Canadian business leaders, some with high quality research that would propel the country forward. Brett slyly attacks groups in ways which border illegal behavior.
You should join the Thought Police.
Brett Wilson won't learn what he needs to learn about economics until he loses all his wealth- life lessons
no name what do you mean?
So, um, we're going extinct, oil and gas have to stay in fhe ground, and thos genius spends his days praying for more fossil fuels. Brilliant.
Wrong direction. Ok for climate haters
If only we didn't have taxes or regulations we'd live in a billionaire's paradise......
lol what ? nope, we just need a fair Balance
If there were competitive or reasonable taxes that consider the economic climate maybe it would be a place where there is more small business growth, high exports, and more funds to pay for social programs.
@DAVE ADAM insulting and condescending, you must be quite the popular one
@@mattcurcic5585 and what is that exactly?
@@TheRoyL Kenny already gave them a massive tax break in 2019, didn't matter cause the USA has shale.
