    Only suggestion is two or three nails driven in the edge of 3/4 plywood where it grips the tree with the heads cut and sharpened to a point sticking out an inch would prevent sliding and take 15 minutes to make. My store bought tree seat I have used for 20 years has two sharp corners that digs into the tree and I have learned making sure they are dug in the tree is key. Does not scar the tree. My wife sits in it and talks to the deer who walk up to her. She tells the Bucks what big handsome boys they are.

    Dennis there's a mountain lion stalking you!!! Great idea, I will try this on public land I hunt where dbags steal tree stands. Great idea.

    Great design. Thanks for the idea! I used an old toilet seat for a template - made 3 of them for key stands along my usual route and left them there for the season. You can slide them down and fold them up against the tree trunk - cover with a couple of branches if you're concerned about theft. I just carry in my cushion!

    Great ideas I'll be making one before this spring gobbler season , 68 years old the knees worn out the days of jumping off the ground to chase down flopping gobblers are gone.

    I love these. I learned about it from Dean Torges in Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. I went as far as designing a lightweight one for backpacking.
    Another good anchor is a to drill a hole and then cut a keyhole slot at the side of that. You just tie a knot Iin the rope at the right spot.

    I had a monster bucks come in on me this morning. I was sitting on the ground and he was behind me so I pretty much just sat still as possible until he left because I knew I couldn’t turn without spooking him. There was a tree just beside me and I was trying to figure an easy way to make a seat. Found this video and made one just a little larger than yours because the tree I’m at is a huge elm and I could get away with a larger seat. Anyway it worked out perfectly. Great video

      I typically run an 8 foot rope on my seat just for those bigger trees.

    • @LousyHeroShorts
      @LousyHeroShorts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ran to the hardware store and got 8 foot of rope. It was too short lol. Luckily I had some 3 foot pieces around the house that I tied onto it.

    • @congerthomas1812
      @congerthomas1812 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Beyondthebite2024yes, actually look for a tree,with cover,put a couple branches on the other side. Especially a new spot(walk in). Smaller 12-18" inch trees work better for view.

    Cool seat. Reminds me of cow milking seat where one leg screwed to the middle of seat then strapped around your lap. The one leg on chair plus your own two legs forms a 3 seat stool that the farmers use to go from cow to cow so they can sit milking them.

    I made a couple a few years ago, and they were not designed as well as yours! I put my hole too close to the tree and had to add a brace under the seat to brace it against the tree at a 45-degree angle to hold it flat so I could sit on it. I am going to redrill the holes now that I have seen your design. Thanks

    I only hunt from the ground. My father in law made me one of these out of an old bench press seat. It was heavy and clunky, and would bang the crap out of you when you walked through the woods. This seems to be more user friendly and packable. Might make one.

  • @russellhays2853
    @russellhays2853 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My cousin use to make something similar to that but his had a fold down leg attached to the front. You could carry it over the shoulder like in this video, strap it to the tree and fold the one front leg down.
    I ditched it when I started hunting from treestands. But now I hunt back on the ground again. Might have to make me one.

      Yes Dean used a very similar design with the exception he used one hole and a slot. Then used a series of knots to lock it in the slot. Dean and i always bickered in good nature over which was the best way.

    • @dwhunter8904
      @dwhunter8904 ปีที่แล้ว

      Came here to say this. You can make it wider so the ropes don’t cut into your hips. Cut it in half and put a cheap piano hinge on it. Makes it more compact to carry and wider and more comfortable to set in.

    If you modify them you could put holes in the front as well & a single long rope thru them... set a bunch & walk up the tree then pull the rope so that they all sit vertical & you can have the height advantage & not worry about any grizzly or other blindsiding you. When you are done let the rope hang & walk down the tree taking them with you... a tree step ladder... VOILA!
