Remember back in the 90s After the knightfall saga there was this amazing run when Gotham city had an earthquake. And then they showed how the us government abandon that city and how it slowly rebuilt itself. It sounds weird saying it, but looking back ,it was a beautiful saga. And now this shit
It was? I dropped Ram V's Tec couple of weeks before his final issue. I saw some people praising his last issue. His pretentious and esoteric writing was getting out of hand. It sucks he'll write New Gods, but I'll read the preview first before deciding to buy the first issue. His final issue of his Catwoman was horrendous too.
I just sold my entire Ram V tec run to Half Price Books-- less than 48 hours after reading the "finale" issue. I can't believe I stuck with it the entire time. Such a terrible run. Worthless in every way. Well... except for the $30 I made for it.
Been reading DC for almost 40 years. I'm not excited about any of this stuff. Unless the next event is a full-on Crisis reset, and many, like 95% of the DC creative team is fired, I'm not spending a dime, or even reading it for free. Reading books from the 70's, 80's, 90's, even a few from the early 2000's just reminds me that in several eras, there bright spots, even good runs, enjoyable events, everything doesn't have to be trash. We thought Rebirth would erase all the garbage, but they let the clowns back in. There is a list of things that need to be undone.
I do feel there is an area for some of these old concepts like the Challangers or lesser known or forgotten characters to find their "roles" or place in the DC Universe. There are a number of characters that can't hold an ongoing and don't really have place on a existing team. BUT they can still have solid roles as guest stars or recurring characters. But their roles need to be established.
Just read first two issues of batman city of madness and thought it was incredible and love the art. Im a huge fan of lovecraft so really enjoyed the spookyness
Honestly I’m buying the least amount of DC comics I’ve ever bought. Green lantern, world’s finest, Superman and action comics. I’m not going to care about the absolute universe or the new justice league because it seems it’s going to lead to a bunch of crossovers. I just want to be able to read one book, is it too much to ask for?
I hear you. I'm also trying to cut back on DC books since they're going fully throttle this October onwards. GL, The Flash, Poison Ivy, and Batman are my fave runs currently. I think I'll leave it at that and not expand my pulls since its just getting overwhelming with the Absolute Universe, etc.
Wes, what I can say about JLU is that the title is a form of compensation for the Bat titles and the lack of secondary/tertiary characters with a book. Mark Waid even said that he'll include as many DC characters in the JLU book. If you've read Absolute Power, you'll how is it is a precursor to JLU. Side note: I remember seeing something about a JLU and JSA crossover. I won't be surprised if it does happen.
So, I am not the biggest fan of Christopher Cantwel. However, Plastic Man No More was a pretty big surprise so many him in small doses will be tollerable. I personally want to learn more about the Challengers so hopefully I will get that in this mini series.
I also like Two-Face and the premise does sound interesting but not sure if it can keep an ongoing. Villain protagonists can work but are tricky. They need to be interesting enough, have the right writer and cast to make it work especially if they aren't going to always have their arch nemesis. And this may be mean and I do like Poison Ivy but I do think her mini became an ongoing mainly because of the variant covers. It makes sense the Justice League would have a large roster with different heroes available for specific jobs as well as plenty of back-up. Storytelling purposes, yes it can possibly be a headache juggling so many characters but hopefully this will be more like the cartoon of the same name that succeeded with giving the large cast chances to shine. Or like animated YJ as the seasons went on and the characters were almost all glorified cameos with hamfisted lessons sometimes.
I really enjoyed Absolute Power and the giant team up with Nightwing in charge in it but i was bored with the first All In comic. Booster Gold is is annoying and idk nor idc about darkseid but the Darkseid story was kinda cool but not cool enough to make me too excited. DC should hire ME! Id make DC cool again but thats almost impossible now after Joker 2 The Buggering
The issue with DC is trying to reach and relate to everyone personalities and temperament, I feel most of us want logical storytelling without everybody real world identity, DC trying to grab an audience with a specific narrative that doesn’t fit with the overall story and characters involved forces reboots and loses the audience attention, most comics need to tone down the soap opera writing and give us storytelling with complex scenarios that focus on characters experiencing conditions similar to are own and stay in the comic book spectrum
Both the companies need 2 do a crisis type thing and remove the disease that is plaguing the comics atm. Have it that both Dr Doom and Lex Luthor found out that all heroes and villains have been cloned and corrupted. The find the TRUE versions AND Access being locked up by the Brothers, whom r under control of the Disease (or whatever name). Have a new character that will help the TRUE versions and remove the fake ones. Some of the clones (both heroes and villains) side with the TRUE versions and some clones (either villains and heroes) side with the Disease. Either the TRUE versions were captured and cloned on diff times from each other.
Can we just get good writers? I just want the Batgirl series to be good. Please. Pretty please. And stop going back to Batman's origin. You just keep ruining it. But please do at least let him be a detective. Even the last red hood story they had recently wasnt even about him. He was a side character in his own stuff. I just don't want them to do that to Cassandra. Nightwing hasnt been nightwing for ages now either Idk, I guess all we can hope for now is not total shit.
One of the "Challengers" reboots (maybe 20 years ago now?) was really awful. This one can hardly not be better. I really enjoyed "The Terrifics" from a year or so ago. Had a real classic-FF feel, and Metamorpho was very good there.
@@tednolan Actually looking online it appears that in 2004 there was a 6 issue Challengers series written by Howard Chaykin - Chaykin is usually pretty good though (although i've not read this series).
I'm kind of excited for Batman Dark Patterns. Keep It Simple Stupid. After falling behind on reading Batman, and this past week finally catching up to 153, I feel Batman is way too complicated right now. Why do I need to read Batman where Joker is in it for 7 consecutive issues. Joker has his own title! too much Joker. There's just so many layers to the current Batman title, WAY too many Robins. Zur, failsafe, giant bat-family, Waller. I prefer simpler Batman stories, stuff like Haunted Knight. Not a fan of a Two Face on going series.
Challengers...modern writers don't get old characters so they try to force a square peg into a round hole ...and two-face is just there to make the villain 15:14 a hero and still are villains too ....dc just isn't trying anymore...
None of these series sound great to me and I'll be passing on all of these. And I'll hear no besmirchment of Hickmans awesome Avengers run! Shame on you Wes!
Don’t really have a problem with any of these books. Creative teams could be much worse. DC has always published mini series with obscure characters and ideas and generally been a bit braver than Marvel since the 80s in having a bit of variety in their lines. Just look at any point of the 80s for an example, which was great period for DC. Nothing here I’m majorly excited for but Ewing, Watters and Cantwell are better than a lot of alternative options. Jury is still out on Ward as a writer.
Two Face ongoing written by Ed Brubaker 20 or maybe 15 years ago would have been great. DC comics really are doing everything they can to sell something.
There is no comic book or graphic novel worth reading about in DC Comics. There is no super-hero character worth reading about in DC Comics. DC is All In? Yeah, All Insane. DC = Dead Company.
I can get behind a 12-issue mini-series about Batman solving cases, so long as the writing and art are up to it.
We should start a poll as to how long it will be to the next DC "event" aka retcon/rebirth/reset/etc.
Yeah it feels like every year since 2021 we’ve had a relaunch of dc.
Anywhere from 3 to 6 months and DC will launch another event.
Can't they just do a good Batman comic more? Just hire Paul Dini or Ed Brubaker. They are more talanted these DC writers right now.
Neither guy will write stories for comic rates when they get stolen for the movies and cartoons.
That’s not their agenda

Wes, can you do a review to the final issue of Ram V's Detective Comic run? It was horrendous.
Yes, so many plotholes and things left open. The run dragged for so long and the ending was boring.

I'm going to give Metamorpho #1 a try. Single issue stories are a plus, and it's "only" $3.99 instead of $4.99.

What’s this weird obsession with comics about villains? It seems like a one trick pony
None of these book’s solicitation was good enough for me to make the pre-order. They are all “wait and see”.
"Metamorpho has some cool elements to him..."
*snickers*

In my opinion, any character could have staying power if written well. Metamorpho, Plastic Man, Etrigan, Dr Fate, even the detective chip could
Awesome work guys
