the strength of this demo alone was enough to make GAS for Peak haunt me, two years later i bought one. my favourite demo of yours and a SCARY GOOD synth. ace!!
Mannn, the sounds you create, and pull out of this machine. What a joy to listen to. You winning that competition was very well deserved. Thank you for the videos.
Now see what you've gone and done! I've gone and bought a Novation Peak, and just about to unbox it, at the pub, on a hot summer's day, in Edinburgh, and I've not even told my wife I've bought it yet. Might just stay at the pub :)
Nice Post ! - Every time I turn on my PEAK, I get lost in the gazillion sonic possibilities... it's difficult to stop fiddling with its endless "what if I try this-isums!"
My god, this thing sounds so good. Congratulations on winning it, and thank you for giving us this charming and haunting and enthralling demonstration! Best one I've seen yet.
This is a wonderful example as to why manufacturers should let musicians demo new gear. NAMM, Superbooth and all the rest please take note. Great stuff.
Ever since seeing the PEAK released into the wild I thought by the specs alone it would be a great synth but then I was just completely underwhelmed by the sounds on all of the demos I watched ...until now. OK, so now I know this is what it can really do, and it sure doesn't disappoint in the right hands! I particularly loved those noises from the first one and a half minutes.
Damn...was listening to this at work and kept tabbing back to see if I had clicked the thumbs up. Great video of a synth I have until now overlooked. Best way to demo a synth is like this: experimentation. You got some really amazing sounds out of this; heard like 15 riffs at least worth a song. Love it, man.
29:25 Sounded absolutely great to my ears... was waiting to hear what sounds this synth really shined at making and I could definitely hear this synth complimenting a mix.
Congratulations on your win, great video! Clearly the Peak is an instrument that you can easily get lost in! Its definitely on my ever increasing want list!!
What an incredible instrument. Reading the copy on Novation's website about the concept and execution of Peak is also pretty revelatory/impressive. Just like this demo :)
Came back to this video after 5 years, and now armed with the knowledge acquired by watching ALL of your videos, I realise how the sounds you make here are so unmistakably you, Mylar. YOU HAVE A ZOUND! Much love, bye.
This is a rad demo. I love the genuine glee displayed - that's how I feel when I play around with a nice instrument. Also I came here because of Sonic Talk and the Nick Batt pulsewidth shoutout makes me feel like I've been Inception-ed.
Great demo Alex and congrats on the win. It's surprised me somewhat - a very broad range of awesome sounds. It sounds very YOU too. I'm sure you will lay some goodness down with it! It's certainly made me consider a purchase one day... GOOD ONE
What I love about your sounds and melodies, they often sound like all those melodic electronica tunes back in the days when Warp Records still pushed those classic eps and albums out. I am waiting for an album, man :)
Moms Spagheddi LFO - Frequencies, LFO - Advance, LFO - Sheath, Autechre - Amber, Orbital - In Sides, Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children, The Other People Place - Lifestyles of the Laptop Cafe.
Of course… One of my favorite records from the good'ol days: SPEEDY J »G SPOT« warp.net/releases/g-spot/ I love also this one: »Tomorrow's Harvest« by Boards of Canada › warp.net/releases/tomorrows-harvest/ And there is »Selected Ambient Works II« by Aphex Twin. But I suggest the first one on R&S Records › »Selected Ambient Works 85-92«
Eeeeek some really surprising sounds coming out of that thing. Saw it at SB17 but didn't have time to give it a red hot go. Congrats haha. Awesome video
At 12:15ish... I’d be good w hearing that for a couple hours. lol! Also... rarely, if ever, do I hear a video demo of a HP filter and think “Wow... that sounds so good! I’d actually use that!!” But, I did here. I legit love this synth. I’m only $650 short of buying one right now. F**k!
this thing sound AMAZING, my mind is fully blown, the price is high but very fair, the only thing that would make it even more awesome would be better expandability at the back with more CV I/O
I've not messed with the CV input yet or the expression ins, but TBH I don't really mind there not being much CV...I tend to keep modular and polys as separate entities/experiences - horses for courses!
Man I slept on this synth for a while, didn't really pay much attention when it came out. My mistake, this is an amazing sounding instrument and I'm likely gonna buy one, especially since the new firmware adds so much
Yeah it feels like folks aren’t totally into it, but it really is a fantastic synth, not much you could want from a (subtractive) synth that this can’t do, other than import your own samples etc, but nothing stops you buying old samplers, etc...
ok, I've got a problem, I see mylarmelodies and Novation Peak in the same video title, now I know I have to dig up 1300 $ (haven't watched a single second yet)
I'm still like: Muuust nottt buuuuyy thiiiiis. Aaarghhh :D So I'm quite happy that it's pricy enough not to go like often before - ahh whatever, sold... But I feel the temptation coming up very very hard! MUUUST NOOOOOT...
Holy crap! You won! Not just the synth, but you won the first person to demo it that figured out it was a wavetable synth! Brilliant! Novation should come over and perform many acts of pleasure upon you! I'd totally put this one off as mehsville, but now...
Great demo...despite having played one at Superbooth (and I missed the deadline for the contest submission when I was there, dammit!), you're piquing my curiosity a bit more. I do think it sounds better than the Waldorf Quantum (also played at Superbooth) and for a lot less money.
sometimes i'll get earwormed by a little moment from this video and spend all afternoon trying to remember what album i'm thinking of before realising "oh it's Mylar's Peak video again isn't it"
Really well done mate :-) You created some nice sequences reminding me of the Peter Gabriels song San Jacinto. I was forced to get myself a Peak as well last year ;-)
Hello!!! So I watched this in May 18 after buying dm12 and a circuit, sometimes i hook em together😂brilliant midi madness fun... So I thought google.. .and yes novation had a competition, it was this easy...enter email, mine appeared, choose what you wanted to win???!!! So after hours thinking I'd be writing this and would have won, did not lol....but did leave a message on their videos that I believe they may be the real santa for musicans?😂 they picked it up and sent cool emojis😂😂😂top company....still suspect its santa in hiding!!!!
the strength of this demo alone was enough to make GAS for Peak haunt me, two years later i bought one. my favourite demo of yours and a SCARY GOOD synth. ace!!
I couldn't think of a more deserving recipient of this wonderful instrument. Congratulations
one of the most interesting synth these times. it sounds really well.
best synth demos on youtube by a bloody mile m88888, you won this for a reason you absolute ledge
Mannn, the sounds you create, and pull out of this machine. What a joy to listen to.
You winning that competition was very well deserved.
Thank you for the videos.
Congrats on winning such an amazing prize! You deserve this...
It's crazy that they only added storage for 512 patches, why limit in 2020?
"Who needs water, when you've got 8 voices of polyphony"
512x over sampled waveforms that would kill an intel i9 with a plugin.
still laughing :D
Now see what you've gone and done! I've gone and bought a Novation Peak, and just about to unbox it, at the pub, on a hot summer's day, in Edinburgh, and I've not even told my wife I've bought it yet. Might just stay at the pub :)
Hugh the Musical Engineer are you still hiding in the pub? 😄
Does the pub have MIDI out?
Sounds like a class day out though! 😃
A Yr later r u still liking the synth?
@@BeardslapRadio it's only Midi in
Nice Post ! - Every time I turn on my PEAK, I get lost in the gazillion sonic possibilities... it's difficult to stop fiddling with its endless "what if I try this-isums!"

Novation are releasing a new version of The Peak it has 16 voices and a built in keyboard, it's called The Summit.

14:40 best part of video.
Congratulations on your win, great video! Clearly the Peak is an instrument that you can easily get lost in! Its definitely on my ever increasing want list!!
Most interesting synth to come out this year for me.
Ah yes, Peeack from Novateon.
Jet Lag Fun fact - the very first synth I ever owned was a Novateeon Novarr
Mine was a Yarmarhar.
Mine is an Harp Odüssü
My first polysynth was a Cork Pollysex.
mine was a keorge meecrokarg
Excellent demo! And you probably just sold 1000 of these - you should get a kickback!
make that
1000 and one
What an incredible instrument. Reading the copy on Novation's website about the concept and execution of Peak is also pretty revelatory/impressive. Just like this demo :)

Wingo Shackleford Thanks, now watch Nick's latest (Se02 and Touché) vid to go even deeper :3
I've popped this in my swatch later folder. Congratulations on the win.
I see what you did there
That sound from 1:35-1:40 is incredible.... Looks like a great synth!
Great demo Alex and congrats on the win. It's surprised me somewhat - a very broad range of awesome sounds. It sounds very YOU too. I'm sure you will lay some goodness down with it! It's certainly made me consider a purchase one day... GOOD ONE
you’ve opened up this synth for me, not yet realizing what i have had under my fingers. Thank you
Best demo of any synth I’ve seen. You’ve made my mind up on this!
This is the best demo ever... I never thought I'd like that synth, but I went to the store today and tried it and it was love at first sight!
Wow, there is so much versatility in this one box. I want four!
What I love about your sounds and melodies, they often sound like all those melodic electronica tunes back in the days when Warp Records still pushed those classic eps and albums out. I am waiting for an album, man :)
Thanks - Yeah some LFO - Advance moments to be had in this for sure!! Just literally working on a release as I type...
A number of moments in this thing remind me of: th-cam.com/video/mXwRskiXT0o/w-d-xo.html
LFO - Always yummy :)
Moms Spagheddi LFO - Frequencies, LFO - Advance, LFO - Sheath, Autechre - Amber, Orbital - In Sides, Boards of Canada - Music Has the Right to Children, The Other People Place - Lifestyles of the Laptop Cafe.
Of course… One of my favorite records from the good'ol days: SPEEDY J »G SPOT« warp.net/releases/g-spot/

Excellent stuff and extra props for the Drexciya reference at 23:00
skrapadelix props for getting the reference x
Lifestyles of the Laptop Cafe is a masterpiece
Superb as always. Just the right mix of chat and sounds. Nice win too
it really does a lot. and the filter sound really good
Eeeeek some really surprising sounds coming out of that thing. Saw it at SB17 but didn't have time to give it a red hot go. Congrats haha. Awesome video
just bought this Pee-ak!! It's so much of a joy to use. You're video is inspiring. thanks
who cares if its digital OSC's it sounds lovely
I care, i would not be interested in this if it did not have digital oscillators! 😁
Best demo of this synth's capabilities I've heard so far. You may've just sold this to me, so hope Novation are reading your comments...
At around 12 minutes that goes so 1990s Orb. Beautiful.
that out of control sound at the end is pretty dope, sounds like minimal DnB from Bop & Om Unit. Yas!
Brilliant demo mate. Just you being yourself. The best demo of this synth on the internets :)
The bit from 4:50 to 5:13 melted my heart! Gorgeous
Best video yet on the Peak. Great taste in sounds.
F**k!
this is my favorite Peak demo, the absolute depth and insanity of some of these sounds... well done.
around 12 minute simply magic is happening. Saving my money. But would like to express enormous respect for your musicality
Oh my God, around 21:30: Synth heaven dude! I am listening to this demo for the 5th time in 2 days :-D
Sounds fantastic! Very impressive and congratulations on winning the synth!
This is one of the videos that made me buy a Peak. Very glad I did :)
this thing sound AMAZING, my mind is fully blown, the price is high but very fair, the only thing that would make it even more awesome would be better expandability at the back with more CV I/O
I've not messed with the CV input yet or the expression ins, but TBH I don't really mind there not being much CV...I tend to keep modular and polys as separate entities/experiences - horses for courses!
wow, all those bits and pieces are absolute gold!
21:34: Man I need that patch!! And the one a few seconds later. I ordered a Summit. Can't wait for it to be delivered njammieeeeeee :-D
Man I slept on this synth for a while, didn't really pay much attention when it came out. My mistake, this is an amazing sounding instrument and I'm likely gonna buy one, especially since the new firmware adds so much

Been waiting for this, did not disappoint
Damn, this thing sounds really, really good.
You did a good job on this review! Put me to sleep but that because I was so freaking relaxed by your improvisation! More
Welp, that patch at 00:51 is my new favorite thing.
I prefer the one at 22:03
I prefer the one at 14:36
Andrew Mills LOL 😂
That one got me too, very BOC!
Blue Oyster Cult?
Received mine last night...it was really difficult to go to bed. Such an inspiring synth!
Serious good and original demo. Well done. No more to add.
I often find that if I like the sound of the init patch of a synth, I end up really liking that synth! That init sounded phat!
I see myself having so much fun jamming with the animate buttons. Realtime expression is always a good thing!
Well shit, guess I'm going to be selling some stuff this week so I can get a Peak. Damn it.
that patch at 19.00 made me want this! so beautiful, wow
ok, I've got a problem, I see mylarmelodies and Novation Peak in the same video title, now I know I have to dig up 1300 $ (haven't watched a single second yet)
Yep same here, now I am definitely sold
I'm still like: Muuust nottt buuuuyy thiiiiis. Aaarghhh :D
So I'm quite happy that it's pricy enough not to go like often before - ahh whatever, sold...
But I feel the temptation coming up very very hard! MUUUST NOOOOOT...
Thanks for sharing. Good to hear you having fun.
Peak sounds pretty fantastic , great win
I hadn't paid much attention to this. but you've shown me I was wrong for ignoring it!
Sublime sonorities. You have impeccable “demo empathy” - knowing just what we would like to hear and know about. Thank you!
Holy crap! You won! Not just the synth, but you won the first person to demo it that figured out it was a wavetable synth! Brilliant! Novation should come over and perform many acts of pleasure upon you! I'd totally put this one off as mehsville, but now...
first time i am impressed, the sound is so good..
Really good demo. Thank you for sharing your amazing prize with all of us. You deserve it! :D
Fantastic, Just Wow, Love this. Totally amazing Instrument!
I love these sounds, like 90s old-school, want to buy it.
Yuhjer Tsai you would love the Roland jd800 then
Lovely lovely lovely demo! Thanks much.
its the analog filters that give most of the character of analog anyway. it sound lovely
The James Stinson part sold me!!
Awesome presentation! Thanks for doing it.
Thanks for sharing your price with us! Some good sounds, I love the trip at the end :)
Congratulations on winning! Nice mention on Sonic Talk, too.
Good spot, I wonder if Nick spotted the PWM reference... :3
@0:40 - 0:49. That's the entire soundtrack of Blade Runner 2049, right there. Great video, BTW. Big cheers.
beautiful sounds, this made me wanna get one.
great video; love it!
especially 30:10
2 x 3 x 23 yup, the machines are taking over! Awesome.
Yes!
Seriously awesome- congrats! 😃
japan's tin drum lp all on this one synth by the look(sounds)of it
good idea!
Hell yeah peak, dis go hard as hell mylar!
Great frigging demo man! Sold me completely!
I shouldn't watch this video as I'll end up wanting one, oh well here we go, I'll press play and entice the GAS......................
"best bit of the video mate".
Yup.
Great demo...despite having played one at Superbooth (and I missed the deadline for the contest submission when I was there, dammit!), you're piquing my curiosity a bit more. I do think it sounds better than the Waldorf Quantum (also played at Superbooth) and for a lot less money.
Great demo and some genuinely interesting synthesis exploratshunz.
how much for a volume 2 Peak exploration video?!
returning to this video like a beloved album. so many good sounds. (obviously i went down to GAK and bought a Peak on August 29th, 2017)
sometimes i'll get earwormed by a little moment from this video and spend all afternoon trying to remember what album i'm thinking of before realising "oh it's Mylar's Peak video again isn't it"
This is amazing, thanks - yeah I need to do a project with just Peak, it feels like
2:54 "Thanks, no-vat-tee-on" xD
Really well done mate :-) You created some nice sequences reminding me of the Peter Gabriels song San Jacinto. I was forced to get myself a Peak as well last year ;-)
love the James Stinson reference , i need to buy one now ;)
You should really do videos where you sing « sound » along the melody. This is gold
Hello!!! So I watched this in May 18 after buying dm12 and a circuit, sometimes i hook em together😂brilliant midi madness fun... Great demo as always and that watch is pimp! What is that watch? because I can't afford the synth. ..
Sold my Grey Meanie JD08 and Monopoly for the Peak FIFA 23 and weed/beer. Rock on!
I am jelly for that rad 80s watch.
Chris Smout It's current!! Swatch Pop
Amazing demo, thank You from Ukraine!
