      YMMV, but No one ever criticized a Stradivarius for only being able to sound like a violin. Buy a Juno to have ‘that sound’ and the easiest synth interface ever made, if you don’t care about ‘that sound’ or the easy/immediate interface, that’s when there’s better options. I think Juno’s are still the best synth for most bands/artists, they sound gorgeous, they’re easy to learn, and their sounds will never go out of style. Price is the only caveat on that.

    Hey Starrsky, I have the chance to buy a mint condition Juno 60, but it’s $1k more than a 6. Do you prefer the sound of the 6 over the 60 (some say it sounds more ‘direct’ or ‘present’), or do you think that’s just hype? I’ve watched your videos several times, but it’s different to actually sit in the room with the two. Thanks!

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I would say they're the same tbh. The benefits of the 60 is you can use MIDI - there's a relatively cheap convertor for the DCB connector (or whatever it's called) on the back so you can send MIDI. That would be my main reason to keep the 60 over the 6. Sonically there's nothing in it.

    • @helisoma
      @helisoma 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      as a Juno-6 owner i agree about the benefits of the 60 plus its value holds really well...although some have said the Juno-6 does sound a bit more raw...an example i heard recently is a 6 vs 60 comparison by Alamo music ...it's not side by side like Starsky did but somehow that difference comes through...it's subtle and yes they are 90-95% similar but i could tell a difference

      @@helisoma I'm not sure that's actually the case but then I've never owned a 60. The thing is that if you compare any two Juno 6s, the chances are that you will hear subtle differences between them; as you would if you were comparing 60s. The one definite advantage that the 6 has over the 60, for me, is its continuous High Pass Filter as opposed to the 60's being limited to four settings.

    Hi Starsky. Superb video, as usual. Listening to the Juno 6, i can understand why they command the prices they do. As a 106 owner, I've finally decided to sell it. The 106's lack the character that the 6 and 60 do. After watching your videos on the Alpha Juno 2, I'm warming to it more now, though, do i need one if i have a JX8p? Decisions, decisions!!

      @@helisoma They're nice synths - I've owned 2 (the first was stolen) - but they're not worth the money they now go for, to my mind. I bought my second Juno 6, in near pristine condition for £420, maybe seven years ago. I ended up swapping it for an ARP Solus about a month or so before they started selling for over £1000! I did and still do like synths without presets so I certainly didn't see the lack of them on the 6 as a negative, but as much as I liked it, I felt slightly underwhelmed by it. If I wanted that kind of Roland sound now, though, I'd be much more likely to buy a JX3P with the PG200 programmer. It's a lot more versatile than the Junos and you get a second oscillator. People have this idea that the JX3P was almost like a home keyboard as opposed to the more professional Junos but this is actually a complete revision of the reality. I've actually been looking at a couple in my area, recently, for around the £700-750 mark and was actually considering swapping my Polysix for one . . . but then my outsanity returned to me!

      @@StarskyCarr Sorry noob here. I have a filter with Freq, res and ADSRA. A amp with ADSRA. I never seen envelope like the Juno before.

      @@ecou1915 I've never heard of an ADSRA envelope. Perhaps it's labelled oddly. ADSR is the most popular, but you likely have a filter envelop and an amp envelope, both ADSR. On this the filter follows the envelope sliders while the envelope slider is up.. the amp goes between a gate (ADR all at zero and S at full) and following the same amp as the filter. I say when I change from one to the other as I talk.

      The last A is amount. Yes 2 envelopes.

      I will watch again looking for the enveloppe change. Thank you for your help and great videos.

    Juno is such an inspiration machine. I’ve had a 106 on loan for a year and love it. Have written a fair bit using it as its simplicity means one just gets straight into actual playing.
    Would love to have heard an example of sending envelope to pulse width as this is one thing the 106 doesn’t have.

      Aah… I had planned that but took it out as not everything has it. It’s good on the elec bass tones for example - changes the harmonics as the sound dies.

      DM12 will smash it 😀 you probably know it was originally based on the 106 then taken much further.

      The Deepmind is killer! In my opinion, it is one of the best bang for you buck analog Poly synths. The key bed on the keyboard version is substandard for the quality synth engine and FX, so I picked up the desktop.

    The Ju6 was my first analogue synth and managed to get one ridiculously cheap 20+ years ago, when I used to work in a music shop. The guy wanted to part exchange against another new synth but the shop didn’t want to touch it.
    So we made a deal and I ended up with that and a Quasimidi Sirius at an amazing price. I did promise that it was a synth to keep for me though. I think he’d had it from new, boxed manual the works. 😊

      @@StarskyCarr yeah still in the studio, though I need to give it a bit of a service. The filter slider is a little crackly now and then but I just use the bender level with only vcf mod depth slider.
