Their respective performances in this film caused not only Chris Nolan to hire Christian Bale to be Batman, but also Zack Snyder to hire Gerard Butler to be King Leonidas in 300. True story.
Ya know, back in the mst3k days, I thought a movie had to be bad for it to be so easy to poke fun at. Then they had that pre-Oscar clips episode in early '99, and showed me that you can give the treatment to pretty much ANY movie (including Saving Private Ryan) and make it look ridiculous. I mean, there's probably a couple of lines they wouldn't cross. I don't think they'd try it with Schindler's List, for example. But generally speaking EVERYthing can be torn to shreds, and I'm glad they're highlighting that these days.
Their senses of humor are the very well tuned. They rarely use profanity and they are know what lines not to cross. As far as I am concerned, the MST3K crew are the best comedians ever.
I've watched a few Rifftraxs for well-regarded films and while they get a few good digs in, they often stretch to make a joke. The best material is a pretentious movie that tries hard to be something it's not regardless of budget or studio backing. _The Room_ and the Twilight series are my favorite examples from the post-MST3K era.
Well, I wouldn’t necessarily describe what they do with a good movie as “tearing it to shreds.” There’s a difference between saying “this aspect of this thing is amusing” and “this thing is ridiculous or nonsensical.” You can see this in practice if you compare their riffs of “Lord of the Rings” with their riffs of “Twilight” or “Transformers.” In broader terms, think of it as the difference between “Young Frankenstein” and “The Cabin in the Woods” or “Scream.”
They would've been pretty hosed if the dragons were one of those species where the male dying makes one of the females change sex. (This is a real thing some fish can do.)
I love the actual joke they had in there. :P Matthew McConaughey's character is constantly sipping from a flask, and when he finally hands it over it's just water. ^^
That line about the mother dragon laying the eggs and waiting for a male dragon to fly over and fertilize the eggs.....I don't think they'd be able to show that scene without it looking ridiculous.
I saw this movie, but I remember most the over the top trailer where the announcer says "REIGN OF FIYURRRRRRRRR". I think it was the usual "In a world..." announcer.
Disney would make the two highest grossing films in the franchise (TFA and TLJ), the second best film in the franchise (TLJ) and the fourth worst (RoSW). Disney would also go on to make the best television show (Mandalorian), third best videogame (J:FO), and redeem one of two actors (Hayden Christensen) that Lucas destroyed the career of (the other being Jake Lloyd who retired due to Lucas' terrible direction and the bullying he received from the worst fandom in existence afterwards). Star Wars fans (again, the worst and most toxic fandom in existence) don't deserve nice things. They deserve what DC fans have gotten. Give Disney DC and give Zack Snyder Star Wars for a decade.
I'm pretty glad they did this riff before 300 or Batman or at least half of it would be "WHERE ARE THEY?!?" and "THIS IS SPARTA!!!" Although Bale is certainly doing a lot of bellowing in this movie too...
My big issue about this movie is the fact that the dragons are beaten by common bullets. Being supernatural beasts, even our modern weaponry shouldn't be that effective
Jake Bryant They're fantasy creatures, though; making things from mythology "realistic" makes no sense. It's just like what they did with Thor in the MCU
They aren't supposed to be supernatural creatures in the context of the movie though. They are just flesh and blood animals. A lot of ordinary animals today once had mythical beliefs attached to them.
Well I for one have no problem with dragons being killed by bullets. I mean hell, they could be defeated by freaking swords and arrows, I think its safe to say guns can do the job.
I honestly get annoyed when fantasy creatures are assumed to be impervious to human weapons. We have bombs that can penetrate 22 feet of solid concrete and THEN explode, we can beat a stupid werewolf
"Meanwhile the dragon's out there tapping the arrows together saying 'I believe you're looking for these?'"
Their respective performances in this film caused not only Chris Nolan to hire Christian Bale to be Batman, but also Zack Snyder to hire Gerard Butler to be King Leonidas in 300.
True story.
oh cool
Nobody hired McCanaughey subsequently though. It took Lincoln Lawyer.
So, they got their careers kickstarted by a post-apocalyptic dragon movie.
I thought Nolan hired him after his role in The Mechanic...
and I spotted Jack Gleeson in there, who was also in a Batman film and later Joffrey in Game of Thrones.

+zardox78 Yeah. Looking at this I was thinking "this actually doesn't look that bad". Although the conclusions at 5:55 were based on what, exactly?

PsychadelicoDuck Didn’t really look great either but a lot more watchable then many other movies.

"Well this is what you get when you move so close to Mordor!"
"The horror, the horror, y'all."
NEVER ASK A DRAGON FOR A LIGHT!!!!
They would've been pretty hosed if the dragons were one of those species where the male dying makes one of the females change sex. (This is a real thing some fish can do.)
Life, uh... Finds a way.
I just thought about that and yes it would be hilarious!
I love the actual joke they had in there. :P Matthew McConaughey's character is constantly sipping from a flask, and when he finally hands it over it's just water. ^^
"IT'S THE OVERLAPPING AUTOMATIC SWASTIKA MACHINE!!!"
lol
"This implies there is only one fish ?"

"I'll get that wascally wabbit if it's the last god damn thing I do."
A line from Elmer Fudd: The Movie.
“Camembert fumes kill thousands more.” I’M DYING

"Now the biggest pepperoni burp in history."
Drafted by the Denver Nuggets!!!
Preemie Maboroshi I really hope they weren’t trying to throw shade at my team
1:38 man, if they only knew what Disney was going to do with it. I'd love for GL to take back control again.

Johnny cash dark side of ring of fire
Ahhhh, Half Life 2......Kevin just got major points, there.
Just a wild thought...since the species lay dormant for thousands of years....viruses would wipe it out in a heartbeat.
One dragon for three men doesn't sound like a good ratio but they _are_ Northumbrians.
9:10 Cameo appearance by elderly Mark Hamill!
10:00 evidently they were wrong.
:29 you've been drafted by the Denver Nuggets 😂
One of my favorites for sure
Haha and yeah he is death metal man there, that was so badass

1:25 Turns out it was Kathleen Kennedy
yes. Family circus IS that unfunny.
That reminds me, didn't the Comics Curmudgeon record a guest riff with them?
9:12 FER SOME FOOTBAWL
You should know it takes about 5 gallons of JP8 just to start a tank...
'Huzzah, over...'
