This will forever be one of my favorite scenes. This is the first time in the series we see Sherlock get truly, truly angry. Benedict Cumberbatch delivers a truly powerful performance through this entire series and everything else he does. But we're not talking about his other work right now, sadly. I'll save that for another video.
"He immediately runs to her to console her at his most open opportunity." - THIS. This made me so happy, for it showed who Sherlock really is behind all the facades that he puts on. :') "He doesn't call Lestrade or John right away, because he wants to handle the guy first." And this too - so thoughtful, so Sherlock! Not just because of the revenge, but also the instinct to call in friends only after all danger is taken care of.
This whole scene is a masterclass in acting. Cumberbatch goes from his usual detachedness and slowly builds up to utter fury in a way that's believable, natural, and (given the way the character's been built thus far in the show) completely terrifying.
And at 3:01 the faint half-smile at the corner of Watson's mouth as he looks at the American tied up - Watson knows something bad is going to happen to him
@Spire Wolves No, she is not. Benedict Cumberbatch's mother plays Sherlock's mother in the show, not Mrs. Hudson. Mrs. Hudson is played by Una Stubbs. Wanda Ventham plays Sherlock's mother.
Rest in Peace, Mrs. Hudson You would always be the best Mrs. Hudson ever. Thank you for all the times you had to put up with Sherlock and Watson. Thank you
*Fan Theory*: Mrs Hudson's husband was abusive which is why John and Sherlock are so damn protective of her, when Mycroft tells her to shut up, they both react immediately and the second guy, he nearly beats him to death.
It is very likely he was (at least in the show) since Sherlock helped Mrs. Hudson ensure the conviction and execution of Mr. Hudson after he murdered two people, implying she wanted to get rid of him. This is why she lowered his rent, if you remember from the first episode.
Added to that she is clearly shaken arguably more than her injuries would imply, possibly PTSD, where as in series 4 she's such a badass and doesn’t even blink when in a police chase etc, I don’t think the threat or danger got to her here merely the memories.
The look on John's face when he leaves Sherlock alone with the intruder - 3:03 - like he enjoys the idea of whatever it is Sherlock is about to do to him
I find it quite amusing that he contacted Lestrade before throwing the man out of the window. Not only was he doing it because of his outright emotional state from the situation, he also wanted the man to know what was going to happen to him for messing with Mrs. Hudson.
True enough, but if anyone will be affected, it's Benedict and his parents. I mean, she was his mother's best friend, and she was like another mother to him, she watched him grow up. Of course it makes sense that her loss would affect them more than anyone, since they knew her the longest and most personally..
I SWEAR John smiles right before he leaves to look after Mrs Hudson. I love this entire scene for many reasons. I had somewhat forgotten how deep Sherlock’s voice is
"Ms Hudson has been attacked by an American, I'm restoring balance to the universe" - Sherlock Holmes I keep replaying that scene. What is my life? 2:40
"A few broken ribs, fractured skull, suspected punctured lung...He fell out of a window" A few minutes later "And exactly how many times did he fall out of a window?" "Oh, it's all a bit of a blur, detective inspector. I lost count."
@@torok2001kristofaron Not really. It ruined it because its unrealistic. You wouldn't go down and pick up a guy whos half dead only to throw him out again and potentially be charged with murder. They made this only for "cool" and dramatic effect and to make Sherlock sound like a badass.
I would like to point out that, great though his powers of deduction are, there is no way he could know whether Mrs. Hudson called out for him as she was being dragged up the stairs. That he imagined her doing so is, I think, testament to what book-Watson termed "the depth of loyalty and love that lay behind that cold mask." Much as he affects detachment, he feels responsible for those around him.
Great quote from The Adventure of the Three Garridebs. One of my favorites from the books for sure. "If you had killed Watson, you would not have got out of this room alive."
Best Lestrade & Sherlock lines from the episode. "..and exactly how many times did he fall out the window..?" "It's all a bit of a blur Detective Inspector. I lost count." 🤣
i think ambulances in london are pretty fast, yet we only see one appearing when it's evening, so i guess that poor american boy had been up and down continously for at least 2 hours...
What I love about Bennie is the subtlety he brings to his roles and this is a perfect example of that. You can slowly see the rage start to bubble to the surface even though his face isn't changing. One of the very few people Sherlock cares about was hurt and he ain't about to let that shit slide. One of Bennie's best scenes on the show and that's saying a lot.
Another example of that is in the Star Trek reboot when he tells Kirk "My name is Khan...". As he says his name his face turns slightly downward as his eyes stay on Kirk... chilling effect, exactly like an Alpha predator looking at it's prey...
the fact he tossed him out the window so many times he lost count for even just scaring mrs hudson is kind of adorable shows how much he cares about her
Lestrade -knows- what really happened. I bet Sherlock thinks he's stupid but I'm sure Lestrade figured out it was John who shot the cab driver in the first episode, but he lets the two troublemakers get away with these sort of things and I love it.
Mary T. I mean, I see what everyone is saying in this thread, and it’s cool, but it’s also basically everyone saying “if you’re cool then it’s okay if policeman stop doing their jobs properly and essentially become biased/corrupt for friends.”
Sean Da Best Not...really? Sherlock does amazing work for the police force, helping them catch criminals far sooner and easier than they could ever hope for. And Lestrade knows that Sherlock is a good person at heart, so repeatedly throwing a person from a window definitely doesn't make sense; unless the guy severely deserves it. And given the case that he and 2 other men assaulted a kind, old woman whom Sherlock is friends with; throwing him in jail for that kind of "justice" really doesn't make much sense. Even if they weren't friends, his work alone would make putting Sherlock in jail more harmful than helpful.
Gary Barlow It’s all well and good that he knows the guy, but the law is the law; no matter the reason, if you harm someone you get arrested by the police - what happens after that depends on your intentions and the proof backing them up, which would definitely result in Sherlock being let go (probably - throwing someone out of a window multiple times would still be a serious offence) due to self defence or something. The point is, that’s supposed to come AFTER being taken in by the police, not beforehand.
OMG I love the way Sherlock speaks! For example when he says : "Then get into the car and drive away, don't try to trick me,you know who I am,it doesn't work" it's just amazing! I'm Italian but I can speak English and I love it btw 😉😉
He agreed to send the other two goons away _and_ he missed the pepper spray in Sherlock's pocket - didn't even check that pocket, if I'm reading the blocking correctly. "Moron", indeed.
Everyone loves Benedict for his role as Dr. Strange. I love him for this role and mostly this scene. The anger in his eyes when he realizes what's happened is hot and scary at the same time.
Actually I knew him from imitation game then Doctor Strange and despite me liking those movies I didn’t really become a fan of him. I kind of just forgot about him and watched other stuff. A couple of months ago I got into a Sherlock Holmes mood. Watched the Robert Downy Jr movies then decided to watch Sherlock and he completely blew me away. His best role to date and made me fall completely in love with his acting.
The best part of this scene is watching it again knowing sherlock knows her true nature and doesn't care. He didn't help because innocent old lady, he helped because friend.
He calls himself a sociopath and yet he couldn’t be more wrong. I believe he likes to label himself like that because it’s a defence mechanism. It permits him to be cold and uncaring when he needs to be.
"sociopath" typically means that he would care about the wellbeing of people he cares about, but not others. That's the difference between "psychopath" and "sociopath", according to google, but these terms are outdated anyways.
According to my research on internet, which might as well be wrong, the difference between a sociopath and a psychopath are that sociopaths can feel low levels of guilt or remorse There are many slight differences, but I do think Sherlock fits better as a sociopath
This is the Sherlock equivalent of when Harry Potter crucioed Amycus Carrow when he spat on Professor Mcgonagall. Don't mess with mother figures people.

"He immediately runs to her to console her at his most open opportunity." - THIS. This made me so happy, for it showed who Sherlock really is behind all the facades that he puts on. :')
"He doesn't call Lestrade or John right away, because he wants to handle the guy first." And this too - so thoughtful, so Sherlock! Not just because of the revenge, but also the instinct to call in friends only after all danger is taken care of.

By far the best quote in Sherlock. I was about to write this and saw you had beaten me to it!
This whole scene is a masterclass in acting. Cumberbatch goes from his usual detachedness and slowly builds up to utter fury in a way that's believable, natural, and (given the way the character's been built thus far in the show) completely terrifying.
And at 3:01 the faint half-smile at the corner of Watson's mouth as he looks at the American tied up - Watson knows something bad is going to happen to him
I love how his immediate reaction isn't "what do I know about this man?" It's "how do I break him?"
When he puts his mind to it, Sherlock knows how to deliver a threat.
"It's the burglar... He fell out of the window..."
That wasn't a threat, that was foreshadowing. He needed nothing from the guy but retribution for hurting Ms Hudson.
Subtext: "Let's see how YOU like being hurt and being powerless to stop it..."

Just a touch of Smaug.
*Fan Theory*: Mrs Hudson's husband was abusive which is why John and Sherlock are so damn protective of her, when Mycroft tells her to shut up, they both react immediately and the second guy, he nearly beats him to death.
She doesn't act like she's been hurt physically before and is used to it in anyway.
Carrie Ullrich Perhaps. Or trauma. I dunno.
I'm pretty sure it's more like she's an adoptive granny and no one hurts their granny

It cannot be flashbacks : Infinity War happened years later.
I find it quite amusing that he contacted Lestrade before throwing the man out of the window. Not only was he doing it because of his outright emotional state from the situation, he also wanted the man to know what was going to happen to him for messing with Mrs. Hudson.
R.I.P Una Stubbs aka Ms. Hudson, we will truly miss you. You'll always be in our hearts 💕
True enough, but if anyone will be affected, it's Benedict and his parents. I mean, she was his mother's best friend, and she was like another mother to him, she watched him grow up. Of course it makes sense that her loss would affect them more than anyone, since they knew her the longest and most personally..

Exactly, so well put.

One of the most humanizing scenes from the entire series!!! here you realize how Sherlock does care about a few people, but he cares a LOT!
You also see his humanity again when he has to phone Molly...
Its bright daylight when he finds Mrs. Hudson and it's pitch black when they take him away. Not dusk. So how many times did he fall out of the window?
It's a bit of a blur...

Maybe around 30 minutes. Time difference based on each multiverse.
@@akbarrmd7714 "I have been falling for 30 minutes"
What I love about Bennie is the subtlety he brings to his roles and this is a perfect example of that. You can slowly see the rage start to bubble to the surface even though his face isn't changing. One of the very few people Sherlock cares about was hurt and he ain't about to let that shit slide. One of Bennie's best scenes on the show and that's saying a lot.
Ha, Bennie.
Another example of that is in the Star Trek reboot when he tells Kirk "My name is Khan...".
As he says his name his face turns slightly downward as his eyes stay on Kirk... chilling effect, exactly like an Alpha predator looking at it's prey...
the fact he tossed him out the window so many times he lost count for even just scaring mrs hudson is kind of adorable

"Too much stupid in the room" 😅👌
Menna Ayman 😂😂😂💪💪💪👌👌👌💯💯💯
Lestrade -knows- what really happened. I bet Sherlock thinks he's stupid but I'm sure Lestrade figured out it was John who shot the cab driver in the first episode, but he lets the two troublemakers get away with these sort of things and I love it.
For sure. I mean, he knows what really went down in this scene (no pun intended) and he doesn't even miss a beat.
Lestrade knows what happened, he also knows if Sherlock did that to you, you had it coming.
Proof that no matter what, you do NOT mess with Sherlock Holmes.
Or if you do - you do it at your own risk and peril!
+BalfourofShaws or miss hudson. Because then sherlock will go after you with double the anger

Plot convenience. The bad guys turn dumb when Sherlock is supposed to look smart.

According to my research on internet, which might as well be wrong, the difference between a sociopath and a psychopath are that sociopaths can feel low levels of guilt or remorse
There are many slight differences, but I do think Sherlock fits better as a sociopath
Couls be right!!
He is actually an autist. Different spectrum of emotions left him uncaring for some things
