Crazy to assume you were capable of or interested in learning anything.
If you *"want to sound smart about the haymarket riots"* this is not *"all you need to know"*
This video leaves out prominent details like the fact the prosecutor eluded to the men's innocence in court saying they were "No guiltier than the many men who follow them" and that an example should be made of them.
Two of the men convicted weren't even at the protest.
Also with all this talk of "radicalism" I think it's a worth while to mention that all the protesters were looking for was an eight hour day, Chicago was at this time an industrial nightmare and the fact the violence which erupted is STILL pinned on "radical Anarchism" is ridiculous. This even was entirely brought on by the pernicious actions of the police pushing people into a state of desperation and was one of the main events that pushed Anarchism from it's more peaceful roots into more terrorist areas.
Even till this day, many police officers are pernicious.

He said 8 were convicted. 4 were executed + 1 committed suicide + 2 were parted = 7. What about the 8th person?

@@muhammadqaiser3833 nope. one of them, Oscar Neebe, was never sentenced to death. he was the only one to be sentenced to many years in prison instead.
@@blackspring3207 Seven convicted to death, one of whom (Lingg) killed himself rather than let the state decide his death - it was an act of resistance, two had their sentence commuted to life, Neebe was sentenced to 15 years. The remaining three still in prison were pardoned. His comment in the video implies one of the last three committed suicide, which I don't believe that to be correct. He is sugar-coating a lot!

People were tired of being treated like garbage. Their leaders didn't listen to them. And somehow they get punished for standing up for themselves?
This was an event in history that should have never happened.
The one thing I feel bad about is those police officers, who were being used as a proxy by the people who abused those workers to being with.
Strange how Prof Williams alludes several times to "radical" elements of the worker's movement, without going to into any detail. Peculiar way of giving Anarchists the credit they deserve... 🤔
The term "radical" isn't used in a negative connotation in this video, it is just used to describe how the ideas of some of the workers at the time were more closely aligned with socialism than with capitalism

august spies, albert parsons, george engel and adolph fischer were executed. samuel fielden was going to be executed but was pardoned by the governor. louis lingg committed suicide a day before his execution. all 4 executions happened on november 11 1887. this channel doesnt really talk allot about this event, but theres others that do
There's so little background. How had workers become so radicalized? How did such a mass movement start? Where did this start? Chicago? Elsewhere? Who were the people who spearheaded the movement? Who were the ones spurring them on?
Notice a pattern there? These are the questions a decent journalist should be asking. Why wouldn't a historian ask them too?
What were the consequences? I guess we eventually got the 8-hour day. When was that?
Now, the eight hour day provisions have been eroding away, with all the exceptions and mandatory overtime. Do you really have an eight hour day when your employer says overtime is MANDATORY? I guess most workers still get 1.5 X pay for overtime. It is still most workers who must be paid at least that for overtime? Of course, many are in the medical field, I believe all agricultural workers are exempt, but those are the only exceptions of which I am aware.
Actually, I thought of another one. They call you a manager and put you on salary and whether you work 30 hours or 90, you still just get that $30K or 40k "salary."
My brother in law had one such job and he figured it out on an hourly basis and declared he was making a couple dollars an hour less than minimum wage. What a way to get around minimum wage laws!

Why not provide me with all the information? Might that make me not "sound smart?" or could that much info allow me to deliver the "wrong version of history" to someone else?
History is not up for debate according to Yohuru Williams. What he says is what ya get. And tell your friends so you "look smart." Thanks Yohuru.
Any historian, especially TV historians who tell you what to think instead of providing facts which spark debate are criminal revisionist at work. Beware.
