    1:29 The picture is from "Hubble Deep Field North", a series of photos taken over a period of 10 days in 1995. 340+ exposures for over 100 hours total. Nearly 3000 galaxies are visible and the area photographed is about the size your pinkie fingernail held at arm's length.

    Moore's law will never give us the ai singularity by itself. More computing power does not mean they get smarter. That's all coding. Some ai experts think we have now or will soon have the computing power to create a general intelligence. The problem is writing the code. That might take 2 years, 20 years, or 200 years. Even if you have a computer that is designed as a synthetic human brain, you still need to know what firmware or software the brain is running. You would need the perfect Brain model and then you have to solve the question of nature and nurture coming together to create human level intelligence. It's not impossible, if we keep working on it there is a near certainty that we will succeed eventually. But it's a really hard problem.

    The movie, Melancholia, is an incredible movie about a huge planet inexorably moving towards earth. The strange effects on the weather, the way most people pretend it can't happen and the acceptance of a very depressed Kirsten Dunst really creates a environment I've never seen in a movie before. Hard to watch, but good. Also the 1950s movie, On The Beach, about nuclear fallout covering the earth and the last few people in Australia who must spend their last days the best they can. In black and white, with a stunning segment showing the empty streets of San Francisco seen by the crew of a submarine when they surface. It's never been duplicated and has a cast of old time actors at the very top of their game. One of my favorites.

      Karen Brown i guess dolt? Im weak at trolling ;) Because i actually did try looking for such a report..in todays world you never know what's being told from the truth to the lies..a new crazy event happens just about every day..whether it be from a terrestrial or exterrstrial event.
      Example:
      (40 minutes into vegas shooting)
      Me: "Yo james sent a text of people running from gunshots at concert"
      Friend:"Impossible. No one is shooting at mandala bay, with so much cctv its the equivalent to london"
      Me:"I feel you Im just going by james text"
      Friend:"Hes always trolling"
      (Extra 30 minutes..james was right)
      Get where I'm going karen? It's always best to question just about Everything no matter how much as a "Dolt" one may seem.

    TO: TopTenz
    You forgot thernonuclear war - particularly one in which both (or more) sides launch all or most of their weapons within 24-96 hours of the first strike. This was known in the think tanks and the military as a "spasm war" and would result in many hundreds of "megadeaths" from the initial effects alone and subsequent "gigadeaths" from radiation sickness, starvation, and enviromental degradation. Just because the Cold War is supposedly over, don't think that it still couldn't happen.
    NOTE:
    1 megadeath = 1,000,000 people dead
    1 gigadeath = 1,000,000,000 people dead

    In other clusters, I am the orchestrator of each one of these cataclysmic events. For some of them, It was intentional and they deserved it. In another cluster, it was purely accidental and all because I forgot to put the toilet seat down.

      A super volcano would have a huge impact on humanity, but it's an event that the human race can easily survive as a species even though individual people would have a tough time. Now if every single super volcano went off in a massive explosion at once, then maybe that might be enough.

    • @duanebarrett2409

    • @ElicBehexan
      @ElicBehexan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it very nearly happened, but humans survived... there are more of us now - however, there is something to say that the asteroid set off the
      Deccan Traps that caused, between them, the extinction of the dinosaurs. There is considerable evidence that the Siberian Traps caused the Permian extinction event. It would take more than a single super volcano to cause the end of the human race. When Toba erupted there were far fewer humans around, while another such eruption would be devastating for mankind as a whole, it would hardly spell the doom of the entire human race.

  • @alwayswondering4051
    @alwayswondering4051 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    To be sure, many more than the scenarios cited are also
    every bit as threatening.
    As it happens, one or more is virtually guaranteed.
    One which, for myself, was more amusing than threat-
    ening, was the example of A.I. Equally comical was the reference to a 'kill-switch' which ostensibly would prevent such a thing from happening. So incredibly ridiculous- for
    Obvious reasons.
    But then, cheer-up; because the truth is, - is that people need not ever really worry or wait for any kind of 'alien' deliverance. Because a far greater 'risk', - a Guarantee to be honest, is of that only slightly hinted at as possible; ourselves. How many countless hundreds of millions of people who have been killed by your very-own neighbor far-and-away exceeds anything else.
    Funny ? Odd ? Ironic ?
    Or perverse, that the self-same salvation from destruction from 'abroad'
    should come from the very same apostolic destruction.
    "...other intelligence..." Sad.
    At the risk of sounding like a fool; like that would be hard, everything it seems kinda encourages me to believe that humanity is really more a collection of too many things which precludes it from 'success'.
    Violent and self-destructive, Arrogant and foolish, very ego-centered and entirely self serving, and far too given to an impulsivity he naturally reserves only for animals.
    How many examples do you need ?
