  • Yeah...he's a nobody, but Florida "pastor" Michael Stahl has provided a great excuse to remind others just how many atheists and free-thinkers affect our lives and cultures every day. Stahl has suggested that known atheists be categorized on a list he called "The Christian National Registry of Atheists." Imagine what kind of names, past and present, such a list would provide.

    With all the names of the people mentioned here, I'd be proud to add my name to it.

      amber colour you become a believer in a god who fuck his own mother to give birth to himself because there is people who dont believe in fairy tale called god? how is that happen? does every time someone dont believe in something make you automatically believe in weird stuff? you got some serious issue bro

    • @1bigdogthe
      @1bigdogthe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Roma X The bible never said god fuckked his own mother. Also it's your opinion That god is a fairy tale, The evidence is on your side, but remember the lack evidence for the existence of a god is not the same thing as proof that no god exists.

    • @romax3115
      @romax3115 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex Johnson
      of course not, the bible only say god made marry preger much like most other demigod mythology such as hercules or inana which in those case the gods did came down to fuck the bitches them self so its a safe assumptions to say god fuck his own mother due to the similarity of many other myth of the same variety
      but you are completely totally wrong on the burden of proof, a story with magical component in it are called fairy tale unless the party that claims it as fact can actually show evidence that the magical story have any validity, or else we will have to accept all fairy tale such as seiyu journey to the west of monkey king, veda with its gods war and giant flying castle, odysseus journey illiad, and all those other fairy tale as fact until someone can proof that its not a fact, which is totally ridiculous, the default positions to take when reading a story that have magical component in it is to accept it as just a fairy tale, this is what non crazy people do, same goes with god claims, it is the burden of proof of those who claims that god existed to proof it, and absolutely 100% not the obligations of those who doubt it.

    • @1bigdogthe
      @1bigdogthe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Roma X Nope i totally disagree No christian needs to prove to you or anybody else that their god exists. Unless they want to convince someone who requires scientific evidence that god exists. I think everybody should be taught critical thinking even if that creates more Atheists in the world. And the only people who believe in god should do so because in some way it makes their lives better or gives them hope, even if it's a false hope. Sometimes for a certain segment of the human population a hope of going to heaven and being with god is all that they have. I'm talking about people who are unable to succeed in life because they are not smart enough, people who are born in pain and suffer their whole lives with incurable disabilities, people who have untreatable mental illness. The list goes on and on. God exists, always has existed, and always will exist, even if he only exist in the minds of the people who believe in him. Call it a mental disorder if you like.

    I would like to give a great big thank you to all the atheists out there. I'm not one of you yes i am a christian, but you actually do a great service to christians. By showing them the errors of religious ideas and by showing the errors of religious dogma. Even though I'm a christian I am constantly trying to teach other christians that the earth is not 6000 years old, by the way the bible never even says it is. But christians won't listen to me. Im also always trying to get across to them the evolution is not against the bible, they don't listen to me there either. Too bad all christians weren't required to listen to 40 hours of richard dawkins or Christopher hitchens. I like those guy's I don't always agree with everything they say, but they have make some great points when they speak.

    My atheist coworker hates gays. He says it has nothing to do with the Bible, only right vs. wrong.
    Christians claim it has everything to do with the Bible. However, my coworker position makes me wonder if Christians just use the Bible as their excuse for hating gays. As an added bonus for their churches, preaching against gays certainly helps them fill the collection plate.
    Though there is no data I know of, after thinking about my coworkers comment, it wouldn't surprise me if there is the same percentage of atheists that are anti-gay as the percentage of Christians that don't' like gays. I believe it is their human nature. Everyone just finds their own excuse for their hatred.

    • @wunnell
      @wunnell 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no doubt that that is the case in many cases. There are a large number of Christians who do practice hating the sin but loving the sinner and I have very little doubt that, but for their religion, those people would have no issue with gay people in general and gay marriage specifically. There are also plenty who use their religion to justify their existing bigotry though.
      There are undoubtedly homophobic atheists, but I have to wonder how much of that is due to religion indirectly. Religion has a great deal of sway in our society and has had even more in the past and that has led to widespread and long-lasting discrimination against and demonisation of homosexuals. It has, for so long, been socially accepted and even encouraged to hate homosexuals that it now transcends religion. Men in particular are taught that the mere existence of homosexuals is a threat to their masculinity. Gays are feminine and if you don't hate them then you're feminine too and not a real man.
      As for your coworker who claims that his argument against is about right vs wrong, I'd be interested to know what his actual argument is for homosexuality being wrong. I'm guessing that it would be that gay sex can't produce children and is therefore unnatural. That is just a complete crock. Gay sex can't produce children, no doubt, but where does it say that nature requires all sex to produce or be capable of producing children? Eating food is required for survival but I'm not sure that anyone would assert that we should only ever eat just what we need to survive. Even health nuts would still want to eat things they like for the pleasure of it alone. Abstinence can't produce children either but I don't hear anyone arguing that it is wrong.
      Quite simply, some people find the thought of gay sex icky and don't want things that make them feel icky to be allowed. Homosexuality hurts noone - unlike discrimination against homosexuality - and we have no issues with the population falling as a result of it so there's just no good argument against it. Even if the population was falling because too great a proportion was homosexual, we'd simply use artificial insemination to help gay people, most of whom already want to have children, have children, as we do with heterosexual couples who can't have children with their partners for biological reasons. We wouldn't force them to marry and mate with people they weren't sexually attracted to.

      I find that to be a very stupid statement. Like you, I am an atheist and a heterosexual male who has nothing against gay people but has no interest in sex with other men. The thought of doing so is repulsive to me, but that is not to say that for someone else to do so is sick. It's just as natural for a homosexual person to be attracted to the same sex and have sex with them as it is for us to be attracted to the opposite sex and have sex with them. It's less common but that doesn't make it sick, any more than being left-handed and writing with your left hand is sick. I hate avocados and can't believe that anyone enjoys eating them because the thought of doing so is repulsive to me. I don't consider those who feel and act differently sick.

    If someone were serious about building such a list they could start by compiling a list of members of Mensa, individuals with advanced degrees in STEM fields and citizens of Norway. You might get 2 or 3 believers on your list if you started there.... but not much more.

    • @malcite
      @malcite 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a bit more believers in Norway than that (but i do understand that you where just exaggerating to make the point very clear ;) ) but for the most part it would contain the majority of our citizens yes. It was recently completed a new catholic church in Trondheim (as if it wasn't enough that they already had the 1000 year old church, the oldest one in the country too technically) and it was mentioned in the same article that the catholics of the area where around 5000 members in total. That is is a city of a little less than 200 000 inhabitants.
      But it can be added that over the last 30-40 years, baptism rates, confirmations and such religious ceremonies have been dropping. It is a slow process, but it is clear that non-believers make up the majority of the country.

    I think you have it exactly right. You can't bargain or reason with someone like that. There is no compromise they will accept (except in bad faith as a cynical ploy to gain ground) in their quest to turn America into a Christian theocracy. If fact they remind me of a quote from the novel "The Tyrant" by Eric Flint & David Drake: "evil is wasted on the wicked. Only the virtuous can truly plumb its depths, because only they have the necessary strength of conviction."

    @Fefedefefessle 1. Is still considered a close system even when is expanding. 2. This is simpler to calculate than Drake's and is pretty accurate 3. By doing a soup of cellular components you fast forward evolution millions and millions of years. Even with that help, no cell can be achieved in the lab 4. Self programming is deciding to burn your finger with a candle, animals can't 5. Adaptations occur first, the environment selects the one that produces the more progeny, regardless complexity.

    For anyone to be placed in such a list for that purpose would be an insult. The pastors way of thinking is both hateful and primitive to want to brand so many people just because we don't buy their fairytales. I'm glad this video is here and I am happy to see so many of my heroes and rolemodels listed.
    So glad to live in a part of the world where atheists are not looked down upon. People should be judged by their actions in life rather than their belief of what is going to happen after.

    2|what fine tuning? there are billions of worlds that could have ended up like ours, that suffered fates we narrowly survived. there is no fine tuning, we were just lucky.

    @atonement19 The etiology of the word worship comes from the word "worth" and "ship" The verb "worship" means "to shape worth." The meanings of "worth" suggest the purpose of worshiping: to come to be equal to, or to turn toward, the highest or best values. So when you give the highest value to scientific arguments, you are in fact, worshiping science.

    I'm pretty sure such a list would backfire spectaculary. At least from a christian perspective. Because people would suddenly find out that a) there are way more atheists out there than they ever thought possible and b) many would suddenly find out that one of their buddies that they might've known for years are actually atheists. And it's easy to hate, condemn and ridicule some anonymous people you've never met. But it's not so easy to do that when you actually know that person.

    @f00tstep As I posted before: There are perfectly valid reasons to say atheism is a religion. A religion is a formal organization centered around a belief that has to do with divinity based on faith. Atheist saying God doesn't exist without giving evidence are asserting a faith argument regarding a divinity. Furthermore, atheists are well organized, as this video shows, and international conventions confirm. They have a common goal: to destroy other religions and a subject of worship: science.

    1| constant expansion is the main proposal of the big bang theory.
    2| smarter than drake, are we?
    3| what is the relevance of this?
    4| most species have the awareness to recognize basic things with simple cognitive functionality.
    5| I'll liken it to an RPG game. as you level up, you can expand your special talents. so can an animal. through the process of evolution they can adapt and create new abilities for the species. thus, more complex creatures.

    @megoofychick I'm not saying we necessarily have to stick with religion, but we need to access the part of our neural net that engages best with repetition, rhythm, harmony and joy. If you read Michael Gershon's 'The Second Brain', you'll learn that the oldest neural network was the one in the gut - not the blob on the end of the spine. It gives us our 'gut' feelings and 'instincts'. To fully engage humans, we need to appeal to both the gut and the gray cells to be fully engaged.

    @KillerAragon I think I should say something that should've been said at the begining of this discussion and it wouldn't be fair to continue without it. I am not an atheist. Neither am I a christian. I respect the church, and treat it the same way I treat any institution that contributed to the human advancement. My life is good, thanks for asking and when it is not so good I will take the responsibility for it and I won't hide behind much easier answer that "somebody up there" is angry at me.

    For the record, if this list had become a thing, it makes it easier for individual atheists to both support other atheists by finding them on said list. It could also be a way to discriminate against religiously owned businesses, i.e. if you didn't see a particular business on the list, you could ask them their affiliation before conducting a transaction. I just don't see the big deal; anyone can investigate a business and refuse to transact with it for any reason, like religious disagreements.
