Elvin Bishop (the guitarist) was a member of The Paul Butterfield Blues Band in the 60s and went on to front his own band and played all over America and is still playing, he is recognized by purists as one of America's guitar legends, and his beautiful solo here tells the story. He wrote this classic and Mickey sang it. I saw them perform this number at The Aquarius in Seattle in 1976, they saved it for last and brought the house down. You are a nice couple with good personalities, please react to another legendary must see performance by Joe Cocker doing "With a Little Help from My Friends", live at The Metropol, thank you!

It is impossible to overstate how huge of a hit this song was in 1976. It was everywhere. Written by Elvin Bishop, who came out of the 1960's Chicago blues scene. He knew his voice would not do the song justice. So he gave it to his back up singer Mickey Thomas to sing. The rest is history. Elvin plays a 1959 candy apple red Gibson ES345. It has been his signature guitar for decades. Many of the great blues guitarist chose the ES345. Fantastic reaction S & M!! RNB

That song has always been on of my favorite since the day it was released. I always crank the volume! And can we talk about how handsome Mikey Thomas was/is. Wow!! He has my heart!!

Shawn and Mel, you are correct, you found some gold! This song with Mickey Thomas on lead vocals and and Reni Slais singing backup harmonies is one of my all time favorite videos.

Mr Mickey Thomas on vocals. Elvin Bishop wrote it and is playing lead guitar. Elvin knew Mickey had a great voice, so he was asked to sing lead and history was made. Mickey later joined Jefferson Starship and made some great songs, Jane, No way out and a few others. I believe Mickey is severally underrated. He started out singing gospel. Congratulations on 8 years of marriage!🥂

I react this way every time I hear this song!! One of the best ever. I love to put it on repeat if I'm driving a long ways. Especially at night, then I can dance and sing like crazy even though I'm driving. lol

'60s, '70s, & '80s music is the best! Such a fun time to be young! Early Happy anniversary! Feb 11, 2022 will be my parents' 67th!!

Elvin Bishop had his backup singer Mickey Thomas sing this song because he knew Mickey could sing it better, and it became the bands biggest hit! This then got Mickey the call to lead the Jefferson Starship after Grace Slick departed. If you want so see Mickey sing this song at 70 years old, search "Howard Stearn Mickey Thomas" ... it IS mindblowing!

I totally feel you guys with this song. My (now) wife & I 'fooled around' back in the day, and this year is our 21st wedding anniversary! Although we were together for almost 7 years before we finally got married. You never know when cupids arrow will hit you! Neither of us were expecting this but we're thankful every day that we 'fooled around' back then. You two are amazing as well & I wish you many happy anniversaries to come!

Oh, the memories. Mickey Thomas singing lead with Elvin Bishop and his band. Elvin handpicked Mickey to sing this, said he himself could not do it justice. I feel young again, dancing slow swing style to this in a favorite bar, ….oh my. One of my favorite songs, always. New subscriber….seeing this selection drew me in and loved seeing you two feel the value of this song and the performance. This was a live performance on The Midnight Special.

Mickey sang his heart out on this one and we all fell in love for it. But you also have to credit Elvin Bishop for pulling on those guitar strings with such sensitivity.

Elvin Bishop was a Norhtern California favorite. Out of San Francisco he could play several levels of Blues, Rock and Roll, and even Country. I saw him at the Oakland Coliseum ( Day on the Green) in summer of 1976. He opened for the Beach Boys.
