I think the thing I notice most when I compare your recent performances to your older ones (and same is true of Josh, Reina and Toni) is the confidence that exposure and maturity bring to all of us. More confidence translates musically and vocally into less timidity and less hesitant performances. The confidence to let it loose. That's where the sound comes from. A timid whisper sounds shaky no matter who you are. Have to sing (or even speak) to the folks in the back row, so to speak. Your talent is unmistakable. This song presents a personal conversation between you and the listener, and you stripped the visuals and the audio down so that personal conversation is incredibly focused. Well, that was brilliant. It's one of the saddest songs ever. Hearing you sing it made me think about how I felt in the early 70s when the war in Vietnam was winding down. My number was very low and I was quite ambivalent about the NVA offensives.
Since English is not my mother tongue, I often do not notice English lyrics in songs. Then I just hear the music. But when a song is sung as intensely as your version of one of my favorite songs here, then I'm really listening. Thanks a lot for this (again) because you are doing this again and again. 🙏🙂
I don't think anyone appreciates Carson's guitar playing enough. Here it was completely perfect for the song. As in he just did enough to accompany his voice without making it over-elaborate.
