    successfully installed a GTX 1060 founders edition into my Alienware X51 R2 and having a 330w power source, not a single problem in one month already :) I own also a SSD drive that I placed on the location of the current 1Gb HDD (under the GPU) and moved the HDD into the DVD ROM's place that became useless anyway...

    Going to make this upgrade soon, I already have the 16gb of ram upgraded and i5 core with 3.6ghz with gtx 750ti and its very good already but imagine what the gtx 1060 will do.

    The thing I don’t like about this computer case is that the space in which you can fit a graphics card is very limited. If it’s more than 10 inches long you’re going to have trouble. If it is a funky shape then there may be an odd bit that sticks out beyond what the case allows. Other than these nvidia cards I’ve been having a hard time finding a decent substitute.

    • @michelkyubji
      @michelkyubji  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, you have to be very careful with the size, but once you have made the right considerations it is easy to understand which card to evaluate. A compromise like so many after all

    JUST FINISHED MINE - NO MODIFICATIONS AT ALL - The Founders Edition GTX-1060 6Gb dropped in nicely and was completed in 30 minutes all games i throw at it at 1080p shows more than 60 FPS and my 144hz monitor and me love this beast!

    • @TBaron2865
      @TBaron2865 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you dont need to upgrade the power supply? Nvidia recommends a 400w but as far as i know the x51 only has 330w or something like that. Did you encounter any problems?

    • @Magicalsoftware
      @Magicalsoftware 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problems at all with 16gb ram and I still think there's room to overclock, getting above 60FPS in 1080p on everything! well, worth it and it brings new life to my Alienware X51 now that its VR Compatible with a score of 7.7 on the high end of VR Ready in the Steam VR performance Test!

      Hello, I believe I have the same Alienware x51 as you. I have the Alienware x51 R2 . I bought it in spring of 2014 new. Currently has the AMD Radeon R9 270X 2GB. It has 16GB of ram. i7. If your founders edition GTX-1060 6GB dropped in nicely I am definitely going to dothis. I am average when it comes to being a techy. No clue what my power supply is. my entire system has not been modified. so my current power supply is stock.

    • @Jugglenaught1980

      It's no problem dude. I can confirm that the GTX 1060 is plug n play on the x51 R2. I have been using one for about 6 months now and not a single problem. Works amazing on this PC. The only thing is try and buy the reference card from nvidia if you can. It works best because it uses the blower style fan which shoots air out the back of the pc. If you get a different brand of card make sure it's always blower style fans and not top mount fans on the card, that will over heat your pc.

    what makes it more easy when I replaced my HDD with a 480gb SSD by pny . Gave me more room to work with on cables and a bit more cooler since HDD tends to heat up .

      Yes, it's true. Leaving more space also improves the temperature.

  • @Max16032
    @Max16032 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you got the 240w PSU and you have the R2 edition, you can fit a GTX 1050 Ti without any issues. The open-fan design does mean the temperatures will be a bit higher than usual, but as long as you don't push it too much, it works great. Much cheaper than getting a 1060 AND the 330w PSU replacement.

    • @michelkyubji

      True, but if you already have the 330W you can choose without problems

    Thanks for this vid! You just saved me from buying the alienware graphics amplifier for the gtx 1060. I was wondering if you had to remove the fan that would be in front of ur graphics card installed, that's directly behind the alienware logo in front. Also do you know if the gtx 1060 is 9.5 inches in length.

    • @michelkyubji
      @michelkyubji  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! As you specified, the front fan in this case does not require removal. If instead the card had been longer, such as 1070 or 970, you must take off.

      Hello, if you have to put it nell'alienware you better take that smaller so as not to have problems, such as the founder enters perfectly. Council then the version to be 6GB and 3GB not given the higher performance.

    • @michelkyubji
      @michelkyubji  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sturggaming6759 Hi, considering that when I recorded the video I mounted the 1060 founders in a pc with i7 4770 (same 330W PSU), I can confirm that there should be no problems. For clarity I tell you that even if I don't know which version of the 1050 has you, the difference between the 2 cards would be 45w at max (the weaker 1050 ti has a maximum consumption of 75W against the 120W of the 1060 6gb founders), while the i7 4770 has a TDP of 84W versus the 77W of the i5 3470.
      I conclude by saying that I have never had any problems and I continued to use the 1060 until last month (August 2022, more than 5 years of use on my part) where I moved it to another PC that I gave to my brother and where it will continue to be used

      i went with the GTX-1060 FE because of the 330 watt power supply the x51 has, Model 1070 is slightly larger and you might have to remove the fan guard and fan and it draws more power! The GTX-1060 Founders Edition is a true plug n play and fits nicely into the Alienware X-51 models with a 330 watt supply without any modifications at all! Cheers...

    thanks for the video, it saved me from moving my components to a larger case like Corsair. I never thought that some graphics card have that blowing air style that would keep everything cooler in the small Alienware case. So I am now chasing a GTX 1060 founders edition, but it seems that I can't find it Belgium.
    So I reorientated to ASUS Turbo GTX 1060 which can be purchased for about 300 euros (curiously much cheaper than other GTX 1060).
    However I have read that will not fit without removing the in place fan. has anybody successfully installed the ASUS Turbo in the Alienware? I assume since is a blowing style, the fan is no longer required (saving also a few watts from the total of 330 of the power supply).
    thanks

      BTW, I currently have a GTX 960 which has the same wattage consumption as the GTX 1060 so in theory the 330w power source should be sufficient... in practice it seems that the 1060 has slightly higher consumption at load

    • @michelkyubji
      @michelkyubji  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, unfortunately I can only give you some tips which I hope will help you!
      1) Limit the fps to the monitor refresh rate, in this way the card works less and consequently heats up less.
      2) Try to refresh the environment, perhaps freeing up the space around the PC.
      3) Use a program to increase the fan operation. At the cost of more noise, the temperature advantage should be substantial.
      4) If you want to completely lighten the load on the card, try setting the graphics options to a minimum. Reducing the resolution is also a solution.
      If you want to update us on your progress, see you next time!

      Theoretically, everything that goes into the case should work, unless the required power is higher than the power supply.
      As for your situation, having mounted the 1060 you shouldn't have had any problems.
      I would therefore advise you to check if the 6-8 pin connector of the power supply is connected well, check if the hdmi cable or other video cable is connected to the dedicated video card and not to the integrated output, also check if the bios is set output only for the integrated video card.
      I hope I was helpful!

      Hi, I have compared the dimensions with the 1060 and it turns out that, although much shorter in length, it is actually 3mm higher. My answer is based on what I've seen, and I can therefore assume that, even if you review the video, there should be no problems for so little difference. The problem arises when you are looking for something bigger. I hope I have been helpful

      Hi Ernesto,
      I'm not the OP, but I can confirm that the GTX 1060 6 GB Founders Edition works beautifully with the X51 R2 (330W Power Brick). No modifications needed within the case. It's just plug and play. The temp doesn't go past 70 degrees for me - which is much cooler than the GTX 960 it replaced. If you're still deciding which version to get I highly recommend the 6GB version - a much more powerful card (and future proofed).

      Hi Ernesto,
      Happy to help! I have just upgraded my own X51 R2 to the Founders Edition sold directly from NVIDIA. I read of other, small/mini GPU's working too. However, I was also worried about temps within the case - so opted for the Founders Edition as it has a reference style exhaust/fan (so it pushes air out of the case). It was more expensive, but it was the one that many X51 owners recommended. Easy installation and better temperatures (with low power consumption - only 120W). Here is a link to the model I bought:

      MichelKyubji's channel ti ringrazio molto. non mi è molto chiara la storia del ventilatore. la maggior parte delle schede brandizzate hanno quei 2 bei ventilatori grossi, che però mi sembrava di aver capito che non siano adatti al case dell'X51 per un rischio surriscaldamento.. qual'è la tua opinione?

    • @michelkyubji
      @michelkyubji  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dunque, in questo caso ci sono due problemi principali relativi a ventole e raffreddamento: il dissipatore e la/e ventola/e della scheda video e/o la ventola frontale del case.
      Nel primo caso il problema nasce dalle dimensioni, come puoi notare infatti il case è piccolo sia dentro che fuori, e nonostante l'alloggiamento per la scheda video renda comodo il cambio della stessa indica anche il limite di grandezza che questa deve avere. Passando dalla mia vecchia GTX 760 a questa 1060 la differenza principale la troviamo nel fatto che la 1060 è più lunga di 1cm ma l'altezza e la profondità rimangono uguali. Se mettiamo una scheda con una ventola o un dissipatore più alto appena proviamo a reinserirla noteremo subito che non entra perché tocca il sostegno in metallo che circonda il case e al quale deve combaciare la slitta per la scheda. Se come dici tu la scheda ha due ventole grosse viene quindi da se il fatto che molto probabilmente non ci entrano. Prenderne una più profonda è già più possibile se ci regoliamo con la distanza dagli hard disk posti sotto, tenendo in considerazione però che più è distante e meno calore prende dagli stessi. Probabilmente quello a cui ti riferisci dipende dal fatto che raccolgono più aria calda da sotto essendo un pò più profonde, anche se come già detto si dovrebbe vedere l'altezza per controllare se entra.
      Il secondo caso invece si verifica se la scheda è più lunga. Le schede più potenti ma anche alcune versioni modificate hanno lunghezza superiore ai 10 pollici, spesso 10.5 pollici. Nel parte di case che andrebbe ad occupare questo materiale in più troviamo una piccola ventola che prende l'aria da fuori per raffreddare l'interno e far arrivare più aria 'fresca' alla scheda video. Se quindi vogliamo montare una di queste schede dobbiamo rimuovere questa ventola, ed anche ciò potrebbe portare a temperature più alte.

      Ciao, essendo entrambe in formato mini devi considerare che a parità di carico scalderanno comunque più di una a pieno formato avendo un dissipatore più piccolo, e ciò comporta di conseguenza un maggior regime delle ventole e maggior rumore, quindi dovendo consigliare opterei per dirti di puntare ad una scheda di dimensioni normali, come ad esempio quella che ho preso io. Capisco che ci sono molte misure da considerare perché in questo modo si deve tener conto di tutto lo spazio utilizzabile, ma con le giuste misure si può ottenere un risultato migliore. @@michelkyubji Grazie gentilissimo! Una cosa non mi è chiara ma per fare l'upgrade dalla mia gtx 960 2gb alla gtx 1060 6gb devo prima disinstallare i driver e programmi della mia 960? Ho posso procedere con l'upgrade della gtx 1060 senza problemi che non mi rechi danno al bios o all'intero alienware, scusami ma sono alle prime armi ti ringrazio

      @michelkyubji  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nessun problema! Ci sono vari metodi, il più semplice è, senza disinstallare niente, una volta sostituita la scheda, scaricare il driver dal sito nvidia e durante l'installazione spuntare "installazione pulita" in modo da pulire tutte le impostazioni delle installazioni precedenti. Tieni presente che all'avvio Windows potrebbe scaricare in automatico i driver, ma conviene sempre installarli manualmente

      Which version? The MSI GeForce 1050 GTX OC TI 4G, the MSI GeForce 1050 GTX TI GAMING 4G and the other version have a too big heatsink. The fairly small only is the MSI GeForce 1050 GTX TI 4GT LP

      Noel Landaverde not really. i read a few reviews on this card, specifically on an X51 and no issues where noted.
      i do have another case on standby just in case though. It already is hotter then hell, and i can barely touch the exhaust, so im expecting some improvements (AMD r9 200 series right now)

      I can not define it with certainty because I do not have references on the net, so I think the only thing to do is to try it. Only the fact that it is compatible for m18x and not x51 makes me strange as it should be the same.
