I spent many hours testing Feign Death trying to get every possible logical situation. If there's anything I missed, please let me know! I'll update this as I get more information. Unfortunately, we need to include petfollow on all the traps; Freezing Trap, Frost Trap, Immolation Trap, and Explosive Trap.
I have many more macro videos on the way! It may be some time before I finish leveling up in Classic as I already have so much content in production for you guys. I promise that there will be videos on topics other than macros in the future :P unless you guys just want macro videos forever?

If your Feign Death goes on cooldown and does absolutely nothing, it’s probably because you moved your camera with right click. Even if you barely move the camera, it will waste Feign Death.

It's been a while but if I recall right, I never combined the two. I had a dedicated feign death macro for nelf (petpassive, nelf stealth, etc), and a seperate macro for traps based on which one that had my pet act accordingly. Gave it enough lag in between just from my fingers moving from one button to another to make sure it worked.

Ever since we discovered the API was changing in official Classic, I've been getting requests to convert my macros thread over to vanilla. But, if I were to do that, I'd do it in video format. I don't much like to make presumptions; would you mind it terribly if I were to pass along some of your intel on Feign Death? :)

Hey, the macros perhaps may have been mine once, but this intel on Feign Death is _your_ research. Once I have this new tutorial worked up, I'll be focused on macros, but I'll be sure to link to this because of the clear explanations of how Feign Death works.
Speaking of new tutorials though, did you happen to catch the one on advanced Multi-Shot techniques, by any chance?

I did know that it worked like chain lightning, but I never thought to make use of it in that way. Very interesting.
Really really wish I would have seen this video before spending so much time leveling a hunter... very good detailed information which shows all the ridiculous issues with feign death... Forums confirm this is still bugged to the day... not touching my hunter until it's fixed
This is extremely helpful, thanks for your work on it! I've been so frustrated with Feign Death, and this helps explain some of the stuff I was seeing. I'm hoping Blizz does some tweaks to make it better.

Blizzard recently posted that they confirm FD buggy and are looking how to fix it. At least we finally fot an official response.

I mained a hunter for two years in vanilla and this is not working correctly at all. I'm pretty upset that I can't do much when rogue sneak attacks me, I have only a mere second to drop a trap before its over. Hunter is unplayable for pvp , I guess I'll just use mine for farming . I never had to use a macro back in the day and I shouldn't have to now. Today a rogue 4 lvls below me killed me and this never happened in vanilla. I was able to take them on pretty easily with fd/trap working how it should be. However, I do appreciate your help and macro but the class is broken. Thank you.
Good to know that one of the key abilities for a hunter in pvp sometimes works haha.

Thanks for the info, dude. Did some testing with this and for me activating the macro once only casts Feign Death and not the trap.
Spamming the macro makes it look like it casts Feign Death AND trap but it seems as if it casts Feign Death on the first activation and trap on one of the following.
Also combat often drops way too delayed.
Combined with the fact that my hunter thinks it's entertaining to wield his quiver as a sword and regularly casts autoshot without any animation or gets stuck in the animation and thus doesn't do damage, I'm kinda put off by the class.
Couldnt of said it any better my hunter is hardstuck 30 atm. Have leveled a druid to 60 and a mage to 34 in the mean time.

Classic hunter feels like it may be deserving of a little bit of polish. Macro conditionals not working because the pet is in combat just feels wrong.

It's just strange that this is even a thing needing to spam it my Hunter was only 47 retail classic but on p servers it worked just fine with one press
Only can do this through /castsequence, spamming the macro button. Without it just doesn't work even when FD withdraws from combat immediately.

Just wanted to add another way that seems to work just as well if you're someone that always keeps your pet on passive. You actually don't need to type in /petpassive, /petfollow, and /stopattack for it to work. My current macro (bound to F) is literally just
/cast Feign Death
/cast Call Pet
...and then I just spam whichever trap I want to use using keybinds. Still buggy at times, but it's been working consistently in PvP and every time in PvE
why you set Freezing trap tooltip on macro? when FT cd will over and macro will show its available to play, in fact you cant cast it because FD will be still on cooldown
I've been using your macro for a while and the mechanic itself is really clunky. Sometimes the freezing trap doesnt drop and if you move too fast after casting Feign death, you never drop combat. So i end up spamming it for 3 seconds and hope everything goes well.
And i actually took off /pet passive in the macro. In dungeons, i prefer defensive as i dont need to /pet attack individually each mob after the previous one died. The pet just goes on a rampage until the full pack of mob died.
Did they ever fix the [combat] condition?
the cancelaura doesnt seem to be working on Aspect of the Cheetah? Or goes it just generally lag around for a second or 2? I seem to be getting dazed a lot, even after switching to a diff aspect about a second before being attacked :/

@Muhshuh Do you got a working Serpent sting /scorpid sting macro?
This only works with a modifier now ie shift or alt. If your talking about the macro that would check if the target was a mana user or not and cast the appropriate sting for it. There was a blue post about it sux....
I wiped my group bc i wanted to double trap and told everyone i could. Pull happened and i froze the guy for 10 sec then i got slapped when i tried to fd and the freeze trap was greyed out. I didnt know a macro was needed. Now i know
how do you get it to work? do you need to be in combat?

You've kinda made a mistake in your testing of how combat works, though. While it is true that your pet does not put YOU in combat in pvp fights (duels), your pet will immediately put you in combat with any NPC-mob it attacks. How else do you think pulling bosses with Eyes of the Beast works?
So regardless of how you can pull your pet back in pvp and trap without using feign, it won't work in PvE. You will always either have to trap before entering combat, or feign with your pet on passive (not attacking, not being actively attacked by a mob), to place down a trap.
Note: Any damage your pet takes, also from AoE, will immediately put you back into combat as well - even in you're laying "dead" on the ground.
The best solution is simply to stop using trap macros that include feign, and instead start getting used to putting your pet on passive, feigning, and then trapping.
Or, if you like, put /petpassive /petstay in your FD macro.
I did touch on your first point in the video. It does indeed work different in PvE.
I haven't tested for pet taking damage (even from AoE) putting you back in combat, that's a good thing to test. I'll remember to test that when I get the chance, thanks for the input! Very useful.
Ya lets see how well that works for pvp lol. Gimping hunters by this bug. Be the same for warriors say their charge wouldnt go off or a mages ice block that wouldnt go off. Its a huge gimp for us hunters giving we have not many options of getting people out of our dead zone.

Ya im pretty confident it will be bugged for quite awhile well into phase 2. Until they realize how much of a game breaker this is for hunters.

not yet sorry. Some of the issues (like combat condition triggering off pet) we're not in the blizzard posts, so I'm sure there a few issues still

HI, I really enjoy your videos but in order for a noob like myself to understand better the terms you use, I just wish you would explain a little slower or explain some terms better as if you are talking to people who are trying to use macros for the first time. Thank you.
Thank you for the feedback. I know it's hard for new players, I try my best to break it down simple as I can, but sometimes it's just too complex. I don't even realize I'm using "terms" sometimes. xD I'll keep it in mind.

I'm having a hard time understanding this.
sorry, I know it's rough for new players to understand. If you make sure to stand perfectly still, and let go of the mouse, and then spam the macro for a good second at least, everything goes off no problem. So you don't have to worry about all the extra stuff, as long as you do that.

traps are pointless vs people using todays macros..you can see a trap and move around it and kill the hunter standing on the trap....i guess range of traps in wow classic is some what small LOL....just saying how it works...dont kill the messanger
