Great idea Jean. Looking forward to watching. Sometimes you don't know you are having a problem with something until someone else ask the question. Desley 🇦🇺
Thanks Carmen:) 2024 had its challenges...hopefully 2025 will run a bit smoother, but with our luck, probably not!! LOL! Oh well, you have to keep smiling!! LOL!
Really good idea Jean. As although I haven't done any quilting for a very long time I'm sure I'll learn something with these videos. Thinking about it , I think I would benefit a lot to see you doing free motion quilting as that is the most thing that I find trouble doing. In fact a have a couple of quilts that are almost finished except for the quilting on them.I did start both of them but never seem to finish them .I've seen you do it many times but I'm sure watching you again would be beneficial. Thanks , and happy new year to you all l your lovely family. Xx
Great idea for sure. You mentioned all the outside distractions we all have in our lives and it’s true. Since the election, we have stopped watching the national news completely and only watch local for our weather, sports and what not. The minute anything political comes on we mute or turn on gentle music & it has made such a difference! I don’t carry my cell phone in the house as we have a land line. Sewing is my happy place even if it’s for an hour or so. Then there are tons of books to read. Would love to sit on your porch under one of your beautiful creations and share a cuppa & a nice visit. That would be relaxing for sure. Take care of that beautiful family you have - you are so blessed ❤
We love sitting on our porch (phones off) and have taken to putting ALL of our devices OUTSIDE of the bedroom along with the chargers. Who knows just what is 'emitting' from them?!?! It may be all in our mind, but we are sleeping a bit better:)
Hi Jean! Learning so much from you! I would love to see you do live video chat once a week! You could answer so many questions then as we type them in. Your beautiful personality and crafty smarts would be such a joy to chat with you. Thank you for all your excellent videos ! Always watching ❤️❤️🇨🇦
I am you tube/self taught, I think I have watched just about all your videos. Since I started 6-7years ago I have made about 20 quilts and still struggle with joining the ends, specifically when you pull the 2 tails together, which way you turn them to sew. I always have to rip it out because one tail is upside down. You make things easy to understand. 🥰
I just love whatever you do, short or long. I can sew relate to short attention span. This year has been a real challenge for me, us. My cancer dx, my hubbies cancer dx, our daughters sudden death...I just can't concentrate. You are a shining light in my life with all of your challenges too. Hi Maxwell...great seeing you.❤
Oh Barbara, you have had it rough. I'm so sorry. I hope you have had a good day....just one at a time....that is all we can manage to get through. Bless you. Hugs!!
Love to see Maxwell and he seems so comfortable chatting with you and saying "hi" to us. So cute. I would love to see short videos as I am quite limited to time at watching your videos.
Your creative juices are great! Keep them flowing, much better then mine. Making a square out of a fat quarter was great! I’m putting my thinking cap on. Happy and blessed New Year to the Trueloves💕
Brilliant idea, Jean! I have 2 questions: 1) How to change the blade in the rotary cutter and 2) how to 'square up' a finished block. PS: I love your braid - beautiful. Thank you and 'Hello' to Dear Maxwell.
The idea of short tutorials makes sense. I don't normally like "short" video's/ because most of the time they are shot on a cell phone. Am certain this sounds weird but, the proportions of many cell phones are not pleasing to my eyes. They feel "off".
Hi Jean, I think this would be a great idea for people to pose there questions and see how you and other followers do things. I’m not into watching many blogs that seem to go on a long time. Apart from yourself, I only watch 2 other people from start to finish. That is because of the personal touch all 3 of you give, please don’t stop. Love to the Trueloves 🏴
Jean, Ian & all the Truelove family hope 2025 will be a lot better for you and your family. Happy 2025 from Jan in a very stormy rain drenched Ireland. Maxwell looks great. Thank God! Happy sewing in 2025.
Brilliant idea, quick quilt tutorials on all the basics, my problem at the moment is rotary bades they seem to blunt do quickly. What am i doing wrong? To much pressing, am i expecting them to last too long. Also setting up sewing machine for FMQ. Thanks Jean.
@@delwyngraham4033 I thought it was only me, I also use titanium blades, have two size of rotary cutters 60mm and 45mm. I'm always having to change them and very expensive.
Long or short Jean I love to visit with you and your family through the medium of video. An issue I always have is getting a quilt sandwich that started off square to finish square one I have quilted it!
Others have asked that question...I don't really know how to answer.!!!! LOL! I don't quite understand just how a quilt, which starts of square/rectangular, gets so wonky after quilting it?!?! But I'll try to think on it!! LOL!
What a great idea! I definitely have a problem and could use your expertise! I struggle with cutting 2 1/2 inch strips from 45'' width of fabric without getting a bow in the strip. I live in a tiny apartment and have only a very small table and cutting mat. My cutting mat is 12 by 18 and I have an 18 inch quilting ruler. I have to fold the fabric in order to fit on the mat to maintain the 44 to 45 inch length. I try to be very careful, but I'm doing something wrong. ❤❤❤ Thank you in advance---Wanda
I am sure Jean will have more tips on this. However, this method of squaring up the edges to prepare for cutting (not just for strips, but for everything) was a game changer for me! it's an oldie, but a goodie video; start at the 10 minute & 40 second mark/time stamp. th-cam.com/video/04qcdrhA_3I/w-d-xo.html
Jean, I’m still holding on hoping you’ll do a Facebook or TH-cam Live!!!! A Live in ‘25 😂. Everything you do Jean is amazing. Thank you again for helping all us little Picasso’s. PS. I just used your analogy about hemming pants is like asking Picasso to paint your garage and my husband about did a spit take. 🤣❤️. He loves you too.
Whenever making the final connection for binding at the end, I NEVER get it right the first time. It is always twisted. Is there a trick? Right over left? Right facing upwards? Right facing downwards? Please help! Lol
I have trouble putting the front on the batting and the batting on the back. I feel overwhelmed with doing that. Thank you dear Jean for being open to questions ❤Lynn
Jean, I love listening to your long videos! My question which is off topic, but I want to ask anyway. Is Ian going to show anymore sewing rooms tours? I loved that, it was visiting our friends in their sewing room. many hugs.
Do you sew any project at al only by hand? A smal object or so? (A bookmark, a bracelet erings etc.) Do you have some ”smal project ideas”? How do you think about colors? (In art you have some rules to go by). Where do you get your inspiration from? (Nature, the city, Instagram…🤔) Do you make 🧑🎨📚of your ideas? I have so many questions but I stop for now😀 Thank you for a inspiering and❤️ channel it 💡✨my life😀❣️
Oh no!! You haven't watched me enough to know that I ABHOR any handstitching AT ALL!!! LOL! I avoid needle and thread at all costs~~ LOL! I do love putting colors together and have discussed the benefit of a color wheel and color therapy. And I do have many many ideas in my head, inspired by so many things!! I will try to address some in an upcoming video:) Thanks so much for taking time to watch me:)
I think the answer to that is using a walking foot.....however I have NEVER used one, much to the chagrin of so many of my viewers!! LOL! I just sort of stretch the fabric as I quilt and push it out of the way of the presser foot to avoid those nasty tucks. But heck, who cares? Perfection is overrated! Keep quilting!
Hi Jean. Can you tell me if there is an easy or foolproof way to work out what size fabric pieces you need to make flying geese blocks to a specified finished size block. I can do most other quilty things but not a clue on this. Thank you and hi to Maxwell.
That's probably a question I can't answer quickly as what I would do is to look it up either on Google or Pinterest. There are DOZENS of charts and graphs describing just what you ask. All different sizes to cut, configure, etc. All the best:)
How about a video that covers how to set up your machine for free motion quilting? I thought I knew everything I needed to do, but have run into quite a bit of frustration because I’m working on a quilt that is thinner. It turned out to be the pressure on the presser foot was too loose. I really had to search to find a video that explained that it needs to hold the quilt down enough to keep the thread from breaking. You’ve probably explained that and I missed it 😊 My bobbin tension needed to be adjusted too, because my machine likes glide thread which is thinner than other threads. I’ve always been scared to mess with that screw on the bobbin, but it isn’t a big deal and makes a huge difference. I knew about dropping the feed dogs and setting the stitch length to zero. Just thinking all of these things demonstrated in one video would be great. I watched some videos where they just said that some machines don’t like going in all directions and you just have to deal with it , I wasn’t happy with that so I kept searching until I found the bobbin tension answer. I wasn’t oiling where the bobbin gets inserted enough either, and that was making my juki make a clanging noise. Now that I add a drop there when my bobbin runs out the clanging has stopped. Top stitching needles seem to help some too. I tend to quilt in the winter when my work is slow and then go for months where I can’t, so I forget some of these things. Setting the tension on the juki is different too, the presser foot has to be down and other machines it has to be up. The bobbin needs to turn clockwise when you pull the thread after inserting it into the case which is different than the singer featherweights, they need to spin counterclockwise 🤯 Probably too much for one short video 😂 anyway that’s my quilting issues from the last few weeks 😂😂😂 ❤❤❤
I so appreciate your casual style to quilting. I think it makes it accessible for the newbie. I personally love bags at the moment so anything with quilted bags, totes, crossbody bags etc. Whatever you offer to your viewers who love you just the way you are will be appreciated!! Thanks, Jean!!
I watch your videos all the time. I love when you include your family.
