Flying My Wife To St. Augustine | Pilot VLOG
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 12 ก.ย. 2024
- I haven't done a flight like this is such a long time. All of my time flying these days seems to be as a CFI helping students achieve their goals, which is such a rewarding experience. Sometimes though, you need to take some time off from work and go and have fun, which is exactly what we did today! I flew my wife, Aline, to St. Augustine, Florida. It's her first time ever and my first time in years. It's not all romance though as I made a VFR navlog for myself which is a dying art in aviation with the introduction of EFB's. I'm not saying EFB's are bad. They are absolutely fantastic, but manual flight planning skills are something I have noticed have diminished in pilots these days and I'm on a quest to keep it alive!
Maybe a travel program is on the horizon?... Or maybe not - you be the judge...
Enjoy the adventure!

You are amazing! Saint Augustine was amazing! What a day 🥰
The best day with the best wife in the world! ❤️
Congratulations you two!
It’s a fabulous place! 🙌🏼
She got lucky when she married him , fantastic pilot, excellent teacher and a comedian to boot!
Great video, thank you.
ROFL at clear prop warning! "Hear ye, hear ye, metal will be spinning thusly". I am SO using that next time I fly!
😂 glad you like it. It was off the cuff
Did my training at exec. Haven’t used a paper nav log since. Going to give it a go! Definitely agree that it teaches very valuable skills and much better situational awareness when compared to pilots who’ve never used them.
Getting ever closer to my checkride! Been following you since I started my PPL journey back in October, thanks for what you do! It inspires and helps.
Ah thanks for your support!
I just took my wife on our first flight as a private pilot. We flew from Herlong in Jacksonville to Fernandina Beach Airport. Our friends picked us up, and we went to breakfast. Then we flew back. Your videos helped me pass my check ride. It is nice to see you two fly together like my wife and I did today. Safe flying to you both and many well wishes to your future family.
Bro, you really need to do more of these weekend trips with your wife around the South! Rent that Van Anda plane all weekend and take her on these awesome trips. New scenery and great footage. Love it.
Haha I’d love to!
Loves this, keep up the amazing work 💪🏼
Thanks man!
Loved this video. Brought me back to all the field trips to St Augustine as a kid.
Great to hear!
🎉 Wow Lew! All growed up, married, and grease-in in Cessnas! (Are we down yet?😅) Loved it!❤
She said your old AF lol :-) I resemble that remark at 52 ..... and oooooohhh Gainesville!!! HAHAHAHA
Great town to explore, have you been to the Columbia restaurant? You can’t miss that. Safe travels
Woohoo! Congrats on your 2 month anniversary!!
Thank you!
Congrats you two! My wife and I just celebrated 34 years of marriage this past May.
We love St. Augustine so much we built a new home there and it will soon be our permanent residence. Next time you’re there with your bride there’s a lovely little Polish restaurant in town that you’ll really enjoy for lunch. Gaufres & Goods on Charlotte St. 👍🏼
That belated "welcome to the sky" at 3:23 was classic.
Love the content my guy! Congrats on your multiple months of marriage! I got one of your C172 checklists and use it constantly in the sim. Lookin to get back into actually flying. I wish you the best from Ky!
@@TheGod123Jr Appreciate it man! Glad you’re enjoying the checklist!
Scared me at the beginning with Travel Channel intro, but did not disappoint. 🤣 Did you use the old school E-6B to plan or the electronic version?
Haha I used an old school E-6B for it all 😲
I grew up right next to that airport in St. Augustine. Learn to fly there too.
BRUH im in TEARS laughing after that intro 😂😂😂
😂😂
Your points are close! Last year on my checkride for PPL I forgot to start the timer too! The DPE allowed me to approximate, whew! Then on my last landing after all is done I tapped the brakes on a soft field landing AAAAaaah! I knew I screwed that up immediately - I was thinking short field for some reason.... I passed it 3 hours later after getting my instructor to go up with me and give me the endorsement for what I knew how to do! Love your Vids!
That’s pretty good- times were close! I’m having flashbacks from my PPL Checkride where despite having practiced the route I got lost and had to Confess, Climb, Circle, Communicate, Conserve, and get myself back on track to complete the ride. It was an experience.
I think I might go do this on my next XC for fun 😂
It’s good to keep the skills sharp!
Loved the video. Looking forward to Gainesville 😂
Wish you was a CFI at KTKI on parachute planes!!!!
"Are we down???" lololo....awesome landing...beautiful flight, your wife is pilot material....:) Keep the blue side up:)
Haha thank you 🙌🏻
That was really entertaining. Great video and I was only bored for a tenth of a second
Congrats about your engagement, Lew!!
Finally someone of true interest on the channel. 🙂 Tell us more about Aline.
Hahaha
When are you starting official PPL training with Aline? She needs that pilot license so she can do the flying (I mean, she's got to put those sunglasses to good use!)
Yo Mate, I was trying to hold my tongue. You are enjoying a nice historical trip with your lovely wife Aline, wearing our beautiful national Brazilian jersey. But dude, that's a fortress, is it not? A castle?🤓
How dare you question my historical knowledge in this way. As a person respected for their knowledge of historical locations I resent the accusation that I would spread misinformation in such a manner! Good day sir!
I mean technically, it translates to castle from Spanish. And there is a word for fortress in Spanish. So I'd say 10/10 for accuracy 😂
@@alexaviation8107 This is the kind of support I like to see!
Great video and congratulations 🎉
Thanks for all the facts! Gainsville next.
Lew....brazil shirt when euros are on pal! Come on lad its coming home!!
Cracking video. Post solo student UK training in USA.
Haha Copa America is going on too so I’m showing my support for both 🙌🏻
So awesome you are very funny.
Thank you 🥹
Lew, I couldn't agree with you more that paper based, using an E6-B pilotage and dead reckoning are becoming a lost art and should be taught to mastery prior to allowance of any modern radio navigation methods (incl. GPS). I don't think any aviation education can be called complete if the aviator cannot state that they were so misoriented at one time that they had to go to the nearest town, circle, and reorient by reading the name of the town on the water tower.
So cool, literally all I wanna do in life 😂
Awesome video ad always man! I’m loving your checklist for the Cessna 172M!
Question though, how do you get good cockpit audio? I set up the go pros with the same chords you have but it’s always distorted and loud you can’t hear what people are saying.
Maybe flying there is the way to go. Ive been there a few times and couldn't find parking anywhere.
It definitely gets busy!
Very nice!
The new intro is awesome the acting………..anyways, the overall video absolutely amazing 😂😂😂😂 jk bro acting 10/10. Love the longer vlog type video.
Edit* lol autocorrect doesn’t want me picking on Lewis.
😂 always love your support
@@LewDixAviation yeah I’ve been thinking about not supporting anymore bc ever since you a WiFe you forgot the homies on twitch/discord. 🙄 Nah man of course I’ll always support you haha after all that’s what you pay me to do anyways. 😂 jkjk all jokes aside, yeah man of course you’re a homie, I’ll always support ya. 🫶🏽😂
Hey Lew- fellow “TH-camr” here. Also a private pilot. I’m not sure if your goal is to make your channel bigger or a primary source of income but if you ever feel like digging into pushing in that direction I’d love to chat and exchange knowledge. Huge fan of your content; it’s been integral in keeping me trucking along in aviation.
Hello fellow “TH-camr”! Haha I appreciate you watching and glad to hear that you’re a fan! I’m absolutely open to discussing that 🙌🏻
My first XC… instruments were weird. On the way out, track was a drunken man. On the way back, CFI said to follow my chart and homework. Straight as an arrow.
My first XC signed off by an another CFI, the GPS went offline. Followed the chart and my first waypoints. There and back.
My final solo XC before checkride prep… GPS failed again. Again went old school. Again made it there and back.
If students can’t make it without something else telling them when to turn, their instructors are failing them….
You chose a Cessna for the trip, wow, you must really love your wife.... 😂
I said what you said about the game uncharted when I was in St. Augustine but I said it reminded me of Assassin's Creed instead lol
@@jaypaski6171 the parkour potential is endless!
Wow...when did the two of marry...congrads....the wife an I have made 50 years of marriage ...yes when I flew we had to plot out the flight using the old method..and I agree it should still be taught. Question where is the young wife from..you both make a fine couple and hope the future is good to the both of you...thanks for sharing.
Aline is the quietest Brasilian I've ever seen. She must be camera shy😂
"Nailed it." 🤣
😂 I’m basically fluent
How are you able to maintain exposure of the GoPro in and out of the cockpit
Is Jonathan ever coming back?
Lewdix you should challenge Josh F. to a gentleman's buttery landing challenge.
You should've also said you arrived in a boat 🤣🤣🤣
😂 we technically did 🚣
That nose gear owes you a drink after that greaser !
What happened to flying at silver airways?
7:10 What's the name of the song used here?
🐐
LMAO
I should speak Spanish to my wife and have her answer on English. It'd be like a Bizarro version of you two
Not religious at all and a "history buff". Never wondered how all of this history became history?
Not being funny mate, but.. as a fellow Brit I obviously have zero sense of humour like yourself.. and so my main concern with this recent 'marriage' is this- how has otto taken this level of betrayal? [Congrats, umm I guess]
There’s an old saying; I think from Roman times… “If you move your feet, you lose your seat”. I think that about sums it up!
@@LewDixAviation I think it was Ceasar himself who 1st said the "lose both feet, eat more meat" quote or whatever you said..
Sorry for the long reply and delay (no pilot likes a delay) But I was *busy with my new specially commissioned hybrid A380 172 (think body of an A380, single prop with the wings of a Cessna172) I do have a teeny tiny issue with it though, it's a little umm 'challenging' to get it airborne (or even moving) I'm sure I'll get FAA approval and figure it out soon as I've been binge watching your vids lately, and I feel pretty confident you will teach me all I need to know having never flown before, I like the serious nature of your disposition. Anyway I'll give you and your new 'wife' (rip otto😢 poor fella) a free trip to anywhere you like. Any tips on the A380 172 boss, and where'd would you and your wife like to go? I think Narnia would be a good destination but can't seem to find it in my sat nav.
(*this msg may contain high levels of BS but being British and on the interwebs, I've never lied, plus it made me giggle that at least once someone has actually tried to visually conceive the brilliancy of my A380 172)
May your success and happiness continue with ever increasing velocity 👍
