If you get invited by Ritchie Blackmore to join his band, if you managed to play together with two of the best post Blackmore rock guitarists ever, you can not really be considered having been "underrated". And let's remain fair, Bonnet was phenomenally good on studio albums, but wasn't always able to reproduce that in a convincing way live. His studio singing was so on the edge, that singing several concerts like this in a close timespan quickly led to diminishing singing qualities. The heavy drinking and r'n'r life style certainly didn't help. There are several GB live shows here on TH-cam that make this very plain to hear.
I've seen live in 2017 and 2019 and his voice was just as good as it is in the studio versions. He admitted recently in a blabber mouth interview that it was poor in his late 40s, but it's back up to where it was in his 20s.
Graham was always my favorite Rainbow singer then I heard this song by Alcatrazz on Metal Shop Radio about two months ago. This is one of the top vocal performances of all time, he kicks ass.
With 611 thumbs up ? No, not really.... Compare that with the number of views of let's say Run to the hills of Iron Maiden or Child in time of Purple... It's not really in the same league of popularity, is it ?
@@Retroscoop You cannot think that a record labels influence has anything to do with Musical Merit.. Popular has nothing to do with an epic song.. Iron Maiden could not perform this song, Alcatrazz could play any Maiden song.

@@andrewryding_68 thank you didn't know.. I'm listening it just now...so far it is great.. killer guitar far better than the S Vai era imho... Graham still sounds good... incredible after so many years his formula remains awesome...have a good one

$100 to anyone here because this song was so meaningful for them and not because Yngwie was actually human at this time. *One hour later Yngwie became a God.
Yngwie has done nothing decent since he hooked up with Joe Lynn Turner. He's worked with some brilliant singers but he now thinks he is better than all of them. He's no Blackmore.

@beroth77 some of his highs have elements of falsetto, but the resonance from about 95% of the lines uses on this song comes from full-voice, who cares anyway, he sounds great either way, and yes Dio does use falsetto for his highs(obviously not all, but there are some instances where he does) take for example that 2007 clip from Mob Rules he did with heaven and hell, that opening scream is pure falsetto
MAN what an UNDERATED heavy metal band that did NOT get the credit they dezerved & i WILL put this singer Graham Bonnet UP BESIDE ANY OF 'EM !!!!!!!!!!!
手島幸英 I don't think Graham can't sing this song in Hiroshima because this song is based on the thoughts which a-bomb stoped the war and set the world free. Personally, I agree with this idea but that is against the most of Japanese. How do you feel this part of the lyrics? "They all said it would end the war, And we thanked Christ for the bomb, And the priests and witches all agreed, They should die to keep them free."
Oh, man that is an irony, as a literary mode. That is the critic of ‚the American mentality, and the church. The witches and priests are that symbol of evil, they all said it would end the war, not me, not in my name, understand, that is the point. It was necessary that innocent people die, tho give the meaning and purpose to the evil. They found justification for their evil aims, and showed their real faces in that. This has nothing to do with a pro-American song, as Bonnet said, he was shocked and angry, and found everything about the bomb and the assault, to write the song. They are in front Japanese flag in video, and the song was almost as the Beatles popular in Japan.
+Scott Woods No it wasn't, but Yngwie was the only one holding out on a reunion. I'm sure he would of toned it down a little for the music. Plus & don't 4get when he was in the band he wrote all the music, most of the lyrics, production, etc.
I know your comment is old, but saying that Halford or Dio used falsetto is awfully wrong. They used full head voice, like Ralf Scheepers and many others. King Diamond uses falsetto, and you can notice as falsetto despite the fact that is high sounds thin compared to a full head voice.

Graham Bonnet has got to be the most underrated singer of all time. His voice is incredible.
Absolutely agree
Totally agreed !!

I was either 18 or 19 when I hear this. Some station in New York ran metal videos on UHF. 1984-85. The good old days.
Still one of my favorites. Boy could Graham Bonnet hit those notes
Check out Jeff Scott Soto with Yngwie in Japan 85 iirc doing this song live and doesn't miss a beep. Verges on fishy!

His looks is very cool!
Most insane voice of all time hands down why are there not statues of this guy in every country's capital city?
Impresionante!!!!!!
Because he sang out of key too often

I saw them play in San Francisco in the 1980s. These guys rock!

Graham Bonnett is really Chip Halford, Rob's straight brother.
Lyrics:
It was newborn and ten feet tall
But they called it little boy
And C7, H5, O6, N3 they called him
T-N-T
The fireball would dim the sun
Promising death in its cruelest form
Hiroshima Mon Amour
As we beg to be forgiven do you spit
In our face and curse us all
The fireball that shamed the sun
Burning the shadows on the ground
As the rain falls to dry the land
Leaving desert for the thirsty man
They all said it would end the war
And we thanked Christ for the bomb
And the priests and witches all agreed
They should die to keep them free
The fireball that shamed the sun
Burning the shadows on the ground
As the rain falls to dry the land
Leaving the desert for the thirsty man
Hiroshima!
Superb, I remember when this was first released. Malmsteen, makes that strat sing too, perfect compliment to GB.
Still one of the greatest singers of the world
Agreed
This song introduced the world to the brilliant guitar playing of Yngwie J!
Some of us were already familiar with him from STEELER (1983).
A heavy rock song that's cool and condemns the idea of using nuclear weapons? YES! :D
