    My 2022 F57 (the convertible version of this car) was DIFFERENT!! Your F convertible may be different too. There are no access flaps. The plastic splash shield covers an aluminum skid plate(with access holes to the plug/filter). You have to take the splash shield off and MINI uses 8 to 10 security torx fasteners to hold it on.
    Everything else in the video is spot on!! Thank you

      Yes, for the convertibles you will need to remove the under tray. There is no access flaps.

    Should I change the plug on the oil filter cap? Last time I did, (even tho I followed the service manual for torque) the oil seeped thru the plug. After that, I didn’t touch the plug, instead just pull the entire filter cap. I’m wondering whether you’ve had any similar issues. Thx.

    When doing the reset, does the oil change appear in the service manual?

    • @GavinBlaesner
      @GavinBlaesner  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Appear in the service manual? I guess I don't understand the question 100%. When you go to reset your oil all you are doing is resetting the time/mileage interval so you will have a notification come up again when your oil is due, according to manufacturer specs. I would recommend not waiting 10k miles or 1 year...more in the length of 6 months or 5k miles at most.

    • @AnonGoogleuser
      @AnonGoogleuser 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@GavinBlaesner the Mini has an electronic service book listing all the oil changes and stuff in it. During inspection the oil change would be entered and one can proof that it was done. I would like to enter my own oil changes in the service history, as many trust this history more than one just saying they did change the oil themself every year.

    • @GavinBlaesner
      @GavinBlaesner  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AnonGoogleuser When you reset the light the vehicle technically does "remeber it" but the only way to pull that would be at the dealer with OE software and even then the statistics are not very clear in ISTA. • @eighttracklover1

    Great video. One question though: will the dealership change my oil before the 10,000 mile interval using the 3 year free maintenance plan? I don't want to use 10,000 mile oil on a new engine that is breaking in. Thanks

    • @GavinBlaesner
      @GavinBlaesner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, so any oil changes outside of that interval you will have to take care of. That’s exactly what I do. I changed at 2500, 5k, 7500 and then maint plan around 10k. Just need to tell them not to reset the main light when you do your customer pay oil change otherwise if they reset it you won’t get your maint plan oil change. I’m in the same situation, I just do my oil changes in between the “free” oil change.

    Small question today, first oil service on a mini just like this one, ordered a mahle OX 815/1D (same model number as original) from FCP but the top hole (where the felt material is) was a bit smaller, I compared to original and it seems that the edge/rim of the original filter's felt bends to give it a tight fit. (have you seen/experienced this?) everything went ok, but looking at your video I just see you push that filter a bit quicker and smoother than what I did, I but some oil on the felt and helped the felt fold a bit with my finger.

    • @GavinBlaesner
      @GavinBlaesner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @GavinBlaesner

      PERSONALLY, even with synthetic I change my oil every 3,500 miles no matter what. Air filter intervals i would say maybe every few years, they typically don’t see much wear or dirt anyways, but depends where you live really.

    I haven't done mine because of no dipstick. I just don't like the idea of having to start, warm up the engine and check the computer multiple times.
    I used to do my old cars, but its a pain to get rid of the oil, you have to pay or take it to the dump and my Mini dealer has a 3 years of oil changes for $250.
    Probably to try and get you to have other work done. But it's cool. The Tech on your car makes a video while he does a vehicle check, shows and tells you all the things that might need to be fixed soon. In my case 3 tires are worn and 6 years old, spark plugs, battery is weak and brake pads are about half way.

    How do you service the auto trans on the f56?

    • @GavinBlaesner
      @GavinBlaesner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Little difficult to explain over text, but basically 1) Remove undertray 2: remove trans drain plug, small t25 or something 3: remove large drain/fluid level stick 4: catch fluid to see how much comes out, fill up container with same amount that was drained. 5: insert large drain/level stick 6: use small fluid pump and hose to pump new fluid back into trans from t25 hole 7: re install small t25 drain plug.
      That is about the process, I can try to make a video on it soon. A few small hand tools, and a cheap fluid pump would do the job easily. There is a fill on top of the trans but very difficult to get to with mount removing too much stuff. Invest in the cheap pump. Hope that helps.

    Hello Gavin,
    Hope you are doing well. I follow your videos on many DIYs.
    I have Mini Cooper 2017 (3 cylinder engine) and recently I changed the engine oil myself for the first time.
    I found this piece dangling and wanted to know if I am missing any part or somethign that I can ignore (although this makes the tinging sound when the engine idles at a specific frequency)
    Kindly help.

    • @GavinBlaesner
      @GavinBlaesner  ปีที่แล้ว

      So, it looks like you have a FWD cooper, I don’t see a transfer case, and with that it looks like your ac drain is missing and that bracket (which olds the drain stable) has come loose. You likely COULD just remove it, and it would be fine. But I would likely contact your local dealer to get a new drain and mount that to the vehicle again and secure the bracket to the drain.

      Hello Gavin, thanks for the response. I will mount the car over the weekend and check it again. If it is related to a/c drain, in many cases the car is mostly better off without it as sometimes these drains clog and cause more issues.
      Am I correct?
      But what is more concerning for me is the missing splash guard. Especially for a low profile car, that's very important to protect from the day to day debris.
      Please help me with more reasons why we need to replace the a/c drain.
