    Thanks MatthewMCRepair! I just blew a fork seal on my DRZ 400 with a RM 250 USD fork swap. This video was exactly what I needed. I know my fork legs were 46mm KYB and I am fairly certain they are 2001-04 on the RM250. These forks work great for me, and they dont look to bad to rebuild.

    great video! very informative and well done. unlike many other youtube mechanics, you know what you're doing and speak with confidence. my fork seals on my yz are fine, however the oil is likely due for a change, so i'm glad to use this as a reference

    Vise grips or pound a smaller socket on? Apply heat to outer tube, it might make it easier to bust loose.

    I am in the middle of replacing my seals and was having trouble getting the oil seal to seat, but from watching this it seems I missed a step, as I didn't drive the bush in before the seal.

    Hi. Great vid on kx250 forks. Just brought mine 2001 250 same as your vid. Last owner put new seals on. But there is a little bit of play. No leaks tho. One shop wants £130 to check them out. Might try it my self thanks to you. So many different people say it's due to different things. Shims seals and bushes.

    • @HTMR
      @HTMR  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the bushings are worn, the seals will wear quick and cause play like you mentioned. I found the entire rebuild kit for about $40. I say go for the DIY!

    • @HTMR

    In addition to the electrical tape, I find a spray of isopropyl rubbing alcohol on any rubber part will let it slide over metal like water off a ducks back. takes a hair longer to dry but is very easy on seals.

    • @100GTAGUY
      @100GTAGUY 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just a heads up, not all rubber materials are compatible with isopropyl alcohol. Granted the amount of time they're in contact with it won't do any damage more than likely but anything is possible according to murphys law. Learned that from dealing with hydraulic systems where the rubbers are definitely in contact for greater periods of time. Been out of practice for a while so I don't quite recall the rubber specs and compatible fluids off the top of my head.
      Very very mild soapy water was usually my go to. Not sure it'd be the best for a sealed fork though.

    • @mightyquinn42
      @mightyquinn42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@100GTAGUY You're quite right, but for most motorcycle bits I've come across, we're okay. And it evaporates so quickly I don't worry about rubber eating residue hanging about.

    Appreciate the video. The oil seals took several minutes to remove with a knife/screwdriver, the bike only has 3700 miles on it and I'm guessing they have never been changed. dirtridermag says that if you don't use a torch before popping it out you can damage the bushings, is that true? Having a hell of a time removing that clip, do you have any tips for getting it out? The forks are off a stock 2004 KTM 625 SMC.

      I would ask a suspension shop, they would know for sure. Maybe you can buy parts from them.

    Thanks, but this won't apply to your CRF, the forks are different. RockyMTN has a good vid for those forks.
