In 2019, we hiked the Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt. The 187km alpine route took 11 days to complete and passed through some of the most beautiful mountain scenery that Europe has to offer.
Thank you for sharing. Your pictures are magnificent. I have hiked this for about 55 years, every year except 2020. I return and do the parts I like best like Cabane de Mt Fort to Arolla and St Luc to St Niklaus. Another good hike is Wiler in the Lotchental to Kandersteg to Gimmelwald, under the Eiger.
Hi Robert. Wow you must know the route pretty well! Hopefully you can get back there this summer. I think Cabane de Mt Fort to Arolla was our favourite part too. The view from Col de Prafleuri was something else. Thanks for the tips on the other routes, I will have to check them out.
This was great!! I have been to the German alps in the 70’s while in the army. 2018 I was in Lauterbrunnen Switzerland and hiked in Murren and from Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen. Seems like you can just reach out and touch them. Thanks for an excellent video!
Waited a long long time for another great Video - and it was worth it! Thanks again for taking me with you on this beautiful journey. Nice to see you both again and also to re-see Mike from your highland walk. Happy eastern (or merry Easter?) Hope you are well. Greetings from Germany David
Hey D4vid. Thanks again for watching. It was another great hike. And we were so lucky to have so many clear days. I hope you are well and happy Easter to you too. Jake
This is the best video of the Walkers Haute Route I have watched. Perfect balance of track, panoramic views & nature. True appreciation of the peace & serenity found on such a journey. Just fantastic ✅✅✅✅✅ thank you
Absolutely amazing! You guys certainly have some wonderful memories to look back on in years to come from your long distance hikes..the photography was stunning too! Thanks for sharing & taking us along with you through the video..stay safe out there & I'm looking forward to see where your next adventure takes you 😁
In June 1982 aged 20 i Was in the British Army & our Troop Commander decided we'd do The Haute Route with Zero experience! Enjoyed it at the time but always knew that i'd never do anything like that again. The biggest difference from then to now is the complete lack of snow & ice. Must be at least 60/70% loss!!
Hi there, that's interesting and also a bit worrying. we did it in September so it was probably the least snowy time of year. But i'm sure overall snow cover has reduced.
Hi Christopher, thanks for watching. I think my pack was about 70L and weighed around 15kg when full (with food and water included). Others would definitely pack lighter but I always like to carry a few extras for comforts if its a longish trip. Hope that helps and have an amazing time!
Hi Jake, thanks for sharing your trip with us, it is a great video! :) I am planning to hike the HR this year, and was wondering, how hard was it to find wild camping spots? Thanks in advance!
Hey, thanks so much for watching the video and glad you liked it. Its a fairly well trodden route. Generally you could find spots easily higher up, . Here you can find amazing spots but you are more exposed to the elements. In the more populated valleys it was a little more challenging ( if we camp, we do it discretely and respectfully so wouldn't just camp anywhere), so we did use campsites a little more than normal. It's an incredible trail and I'm sure you will love it. Thanks, Jake
Hey Debs, thanks for watching. I couldn't tell you exactly how much it was to do it as I wasn't very good at keeping track, We camped a fair bit and when we did stay in refuges, it was around 40 euros pp/n (without food). We got provisions in convenience stores and small supermarkets along the route which helped keep the cost down too. Eating out is quite pricey in Switzerland. The cost will vary hugely depending on how you like to hike re accommodation, food etc. I hope this helps a bit, cheers, Jake
@@jakegraham5640 or anyone who has done this walk before: I will be doing this walk with three friends during the second half of August 2021. We will not have a guide but we had a touring company organize the tour. I am getting a little worried as we get closer to the departure date which is why I like the idea of it being busy. If weather conditions are poor, and visibility is low is it very easy to stay on course and not get lost? That is one of my major concerns. If it is busy, I imagine I can just follow the others. I am tempted to get a guide. We won't have a tent as we are planning on staying in refuges. The downside is we can't camp if we are in trouble due to weather conditions. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
@@phoebehoyt57 thanks for the message and great news that you are doing the Haute Route, it is amazing. As you mentioned, it will be quite busy in August which will be good as you can get advice from fellow walkers on the route. Have you booked the refuges yet? They can get very busy in high season and with no tent, you wont have an alternative option on some nights. Regarding staying on course, it is a very well walked route. There are also a number of alternative routes in some of the trickier parts of the hike if you don't feel confident on the high passes. Cicerone have a great guide book on the route with loads of info and maps to help. It is a popular, well signed and managed route. That said, I would always carry a compass and have the right maps for the whole hike. In good conditions you should have no trouble navigating but obviously you should always be aware of the weather in the mountains. If the conditions are bad then safety is always the most important thing and you should act accordingly, even if it means rerouting or waiting for the weather to pass. Hope that helps a bit and any more questions, just ask away. Happy hiking 😊
Thank you more than you know. I could totally visualize my hike this summer with your beautiful, peaceful, fun video. Well done. Thank you.

No worries, thanks for watching Tal!
In what month did you guys walk?
Hey Rogier, we did it in early September 2019. Great time to go as the path is a little less busy than in the peak months. Thanks for watching!

What month was this
Hey there. It was September time. Great time to go!
Güzel faaliyet olmuş, ama video için seçilen müzikler pek olmamış gibi.
