    I am not an educated guy but i know when something stirs within my soul on a very profound level.That is what George Rowlett paintings does to me. I cannot quantify it and again i dont think i need to, the feeling is everything.

    One of the few modern day painters who's work really moves me. He has the greatest instincts for colour and atmosphere, and the handling of paint is off the scale.

    If Mr.Rowlett's intensity and unique handling of paint would be doubled by a equally strong sense of design, he would be a great master...

    This artist, like many I've seen, labors under the false idea that the thicker the paint, obviously the more deepfelt the emotion. Clearly untrue. Personally, I find all the paintings here quite unpleasant, and furthermore, unsuccessful. Probably the only artist to have really successfully employed thick impasto is Van Gogh, and Rowlett is no Van Gogh by any stretch of the imagination. Van Gogh had actual reasons why each thick stroke was painted that way. He also did countless paintings without thick strokes. But here we see it just as a formula, a manner of everyday work. I, for one, am unimpressed, and instead of seeing "expressed emotion", I just see paint lathered on thickly but without meaning.

      Who cares how thick or thin the paint is? You are completely missing the point of his work.

    • @KpxUrz5745
      @KpxUrz5745 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mmasterton6527 Oh, don't worry. I see the point of his work alright. I see poor drawing, poor composition, poor depiction of light and form, masking failures with thick slathered-on paint, and worst of all: poor concepts and ideas.
